5 SCRIPTURE READING John 15:1-8 On the night of his arrest, Jesus taught his disciples about the relationship they would have with him. Those who abide in his word and love would bear fruit, for apart from him, they could do nothing. Jesus says, I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. \ I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION The prayers will be offered in petitions ending in Lord, in your mercy. The congregation will respond, Hear our prayer PEACE The peace of Christ be with you always. 7 OFFERING PRAYER Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. HOLY COMMUNION It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin; who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

8 In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen Jesus said, "I am the true vine. Abide in me as I abide in you."

9 As you come forward receive the bread from the Pastor and then dip it in the cup held by the Communion Assistant. Then partake of the elements together. You may return to your place by using the side aisle. The Praise Band will be singing during distribution. You are welcome to sing along. PRAYER AND BLESSING Life-giving God, we give you thanks for nourishing us with the bread of heaven and the wine of love, Jesus our risen Savior. As you send us into the world, guard us from the power of evil, keep us in unity with all your people, and by your Spirit move us to testify to your grace in our words and actions; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, who raised our Lord Jesus from death, lift you up and restore you to wholeness. Amen. Jesus Christ, the Word of life, bless you and send you to be his witnesses. Amen. God the Holy Spirit, who renews the whole earth, refresh you in the gift of baptism this day and always. Amen.

11 SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE, TEA AND THEE! - There is an informal group that meets after Fellowship time for discussion of current events or topics and how they relate to us as Christians. They meet over in the corner of the room adjacent to the bulletin boards. PAIRS AND SPARES OUTING The Pairs and Spares will be meeting on Sunday May 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Aki s Japanese Restaurant, 424 Gateway Avenue, Chambersburg, for a Hibachi Dinner. If you are planning to attend, please sign the sheet on the bulletin board in the Narthex by May 13. YOUTH SUNDAY There will be a practice on Friday, May 18 th at 7:15 p.m. for any youth participating in Youth Sunday on May 20 th. Please contact Deb Cline or Peggy Louder if you are not able to attend. THE LUTHERAN CHURCH WOMEN will be going to Luther Ridge on Wednesday, May 9 th at 7:00 p.m. to entertain the residents and celebrate with those having birthdays in the month of May. If you are interested in participating by reading a poem, singing or playing an instrument, please contact Betsy Fisher or Donna Wolfe. THE YOUTH GROUP will be making Ham Sandwiches Thursday May 17th at ELC to support the ELCA National Youth Gathering in NOLA. They will cost $2.50 each and they consist of ham on a large kaiser roll with a mustard packet. Please place your order by Sunday, May 6th on the sign up sheet in the narthex. 12 THE SECOND SPRING MEETING OF THE FIRST STEPS TO LEARNING PROGRAM sponsored by the Greencastle-Antrim School District will be held on Monday, May 7 th at 6:30 p.m. in the Greencastle-Antrim Primary School. The theme for the evening will be Reading Adventures with Eric Carle. Children entering kindergarten this fall and families with younger children will participate in two sessions. These activities include a read aloud, movement activities, finger plays, craft, snack and video read aloud. Parents of our new kindergarten students will meet with kindergarten teachers to learn everything they always wanted to know about kindergarten. Topics include the kindergarten schedule, reading/language arts, math, Kidwriting, and Q&A time. CHAMBERSBURG CONFERENCE NEWS CHURCH DAY BUFFET Members of our congregation and their friends are invited to the Church Day Buffet at the Fleck Center at Luther Ridge on Wednesday, May 9 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. The menu for May is Creamed Lettuce, Crispy Baked Chicken, Scalloped Potatoes, Baked Corn, Dessert and Beverage. Cost for the buffet is $6.50 per person. To reserve your place, please call WELLNESS TALK AT LUTHER RIDGE Lutheran Home Care & Hospice will give a Health & Wellness talk on Thursday, May17 at 10:00 a.m. at The Fleck Center at Luther Ridge Retirement Community, 2998 Luther Drive, Chambersburg. The program is free of charge and open to anyone in the community. No registration is required. The topic is Medication Safety.
