1 October 16, 2016 Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Mission We are a Eucharistic community committed to living the teachings of Jesus. Founded in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, we share the responsibility to build the Reign of God. Core Values: Worship Justice Vision Dignity Trivison Scholarship Fund We will commemorate the birthday of Resurrection parish founding pastor, Rev. Louis J. Trivison, with an opportunity this weekend to support the scholarship fund in his name. Launched in honor of Fr. Lou s retirement from the parish in 1996, the Trivison scholarship provides funds for children in Cleveland s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood to attend one of the Archbishop James P. Lyke elementary schools. Envelopes are available in the Gathering Area. The Gospels and Caravaggio: A Dialogue of Text and Light Rev. George M. Smiga, S.T.D., Pastor of St. Noel Parish Willoughby Hills and Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology. Great scripture texts continue to generate new meanings as readers take them up and interpret them. There is an ongoing dialogue within the faith community between the ancient texts and their contemporary significance. The PassionOctober 17 at 7 PM in Trivison Hall The Christian message is one of Good News and yet trial and pain are part of the spiritual journey.the gospel address the struggles of every Christian through the passion of Christ. We will examine the passion accounts of the four gospels, highlighting their meaning for the believer who must face suffering and death. All of this will be placed in dialogue with Caravaggio s The Betrayal of Christ and The Flagellation. Many thanks for the donors who participated in last Tuesdays Blood Drive here at Resurrection. There were 30 units donated. Thank you to all who sacrificed their time to help those in need.

Once again this year we would like to invite our young people in grades one through six to enter into a competition to produce our Annual Parish Christmas Card. We are asking our young artists who have talent in drawing, painting or photography to submit an entry of the Angel announcing the news of the Birth of the Savior. The entry must be submitted on 8 ½ by 10 white paper. The entry must have the artists name, phone number and an address on the reverse side of the paper. All entries must be submitted to the parish office no later than Sunday, November 20, The winning entry will be reproduced into a Christmas Card which will be mailed out to all parishioners during the middle of December. On a more immediate note, the month of November is a time for us to remember our beloved dead. Once again this year, we invite everyone in the parish to bring small framed photos of their family and friends who have died. You can begin bringing pictures of your loved ones to the Church on the weekend of October 29/30 and place them on the window sills throughout the worship space. As we gather for liturgy during the month of November we will be surrounded by the memory of our loved ones who have gone before us and rest now in the peace of Christ. Finally, we are beginning plans for our Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Turkeys and other food supplies will be welcome all thru the month of October and into November. Sincerely, Fr. Tom Dragga Harvest Blessing God our Creator, who never cease to bestow your bounteous fruits from the rains of the heavens and the riches of the soil, we thank your loving majesty for this year s harvest. Through these blessings of your generosity you have fulfilled the hopes of your children. Grant that together they may praise your mercy without end and in their life amid the good things of this world strive also after the blessings of the world to come. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. -- Book of Blessings

Laurel Jurecki, Pastoral Minister/Director of Religious Education St Mary Magdalene Church, Willowick October 20 and 27 You are welcome to attend one or all of the sessions. For more information, contact Lisa Frey at ebfrey@churchofresurrection.org or x 24. Thea Bowman Center Thea Bowman Center in partnership with Nathan Hale School located on Martin Luther King Blvd is in desperate need of help for children 5 to 14 years old. The goal is to help children with reading and math skills. The program will be at Nathan Hale from 2:30 to 4 PM. Parents are supporting this project and the Thea Bowman Center is helping project by trying to recruit tutors. Tutors can give whatever hours/week that they can do: 1 day or 2 days and we ask people to be as consistent as possible because you will be assigned to up to 5 students depending on how much time you can give. Your help would be a major BOOST to the children in this school and to the Mt Pleasant Community. The school has identified about 80 children for the tutoring program. The children will receive a free meal through the food bank. This will be a work in progress but I feel confident that we can help the children/school if we can get the tutor support needed. Please contact Ella Thomas, Executive Director of the Thea Bowman Center, Oakfield Ave, Cleveland, Ohio or ella.thomas@theabowmancenter.org.
