1 1, 2017 Volume 17, Number 38 The Wesley Witness To Believe To Belong To Become Christ-Like Through Discipleship Loyalty Last night Frances and I walked around the property with our dog Rusty You will recall he is a seven year old black and tan German Shepherd that weighs about 85 pounds Anyway, as we walked the perimeter of the property Rusty was always right there with us, checking the path ahead, looking our for danger German Shepherds are guard dogs It s just what they do I am continually amazed at how well behaved he is, how well he listens to me and obeys When Rusty and I go out to check the mail, he never goes out into the street, even when the neighbor s dog across the street barks at him I don t have to watch him; he simply knows to stay close to me; he knows not to get out into the road If we are walking around and I stop for any reason, he also stops And if I call his name, he runs immediately back to me I do this often I kneel down and he comes over and gives me a great big hug I want him to know how much I love him I have often wondered at how smart and obedient he is since I have never really trained him I have come to the conclusion that it is simply our relationship, the bond we have, which is the key to his amazing behavior He loves me and is totally dedicated to me He certainly also cares for the rest of the family but if I am present, he only pays attention to me He is so dedicated to me that he is always looking at me, always longing to get my attention He loves me so much that he tries to please me in all things You can always tell when I come home because he has a very peculiar bark just for me, a very excited bark, he is glad to see me I believe that is the way it is meant to be between us and God We strive to do the right thing not because we are told to or because there is a rule that guides us We strive to do the right thing because we love our Heavenly Father so very much and long to please Him in all we do We are obedient out of a heartfelt desire to make our master smile We know we will always have His unconditional Love We know He is always ready to give us a big hug We know He is always ready to listen to us when we pray We know He is always ready to bless us I m not suggesting that we are dogs or that we behave like dogs, but wouldn t it be great if we could be that devoted to our loving Father, if we were so dedicated, so focused on both God and Jesus, that in everything we did we longed to please them? He will take your lists back to his office, do a work up, & send you a copy of the comparisons You then can make a choice of which company you will use For lunch, the meat, bread, & beverages will be furnished You are asked to bring the side dishes - vegetables, casseroles, salads, desserts, etc

5 Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week 13th - 20th The Amazing Journey of a Shoebox Gift Begins with You and Results in Evangelism, Discipleship, and Multiplication A simple gift-filled shoebox delivered to a child in need can give hope, change lives, & transform communities Something so ordinary as a shoebox can accomplish the eternal when it is packed with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, & God s love Powered by prayers, it can help lead children & families to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, plant & grow churches, & encourage disciples in some of the most unreached places in the world It all starts when people like you decide to bless a child overseas through Operation Christmas Child Would you be one of those people this year? The display is now set up in the Adult SS Building Foyer Please pick up your brochure & box(es) with details of how to fill them, or you may donate money for a Shoebox to be filled by giving it to the Church Office The deadline to bring your boxes to the church will be Thursday, 16th Let us see how many children s lives we can touch this year Contact Judy Counce ( ) for additional information Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes have delighted over 135 million children & opened doors for the Gospel in some of the most remote places on earth ************************* Did you know? A village receives shoeboxes ONLY ONE TIME Not every child in a village receives a shoebox (unfortunately) Because of this information, would you consider packing just ONE MORE Shoebox this year? ************************* Additional Shoebox Information: Many of the shoeboxes collected are filled for the 2-4 & 5-9 Year Olds HOWEVER, the Year Olds (both girls & boys) seem to be left out But this age group still can benefit from one of these special gifts Some ideas for them that are not included on the brochure are: Girls: Needles/Thread (or a Small Sewing Kit) Small Pieces of Fabric Inexpensive Real Forks, Spoons, Knives Plastic Cups/Bowls Yarn/Needles Aluminum Foil (Small Sheets) Boys: Small Hammer, Screw Drivers, Nails, Screws Tape Measure Sand Paper Work Gloves Fishing Line/Hooks Flashlight/Extra Batteries Small Tarp The needles, thread, nails, screws, & fishing hooks can be placed in used prescription bottles The silverware can be wrapped in a washcloth & slid into the cups for placement in the box DO NOT FORGET that they still need school supplies NOTE: Each box must include $900 shipping cost plus an additional $200 if you choose to use one of the boxes provided It is best if this is turned into the Church Office as one check for shipping will be written to Samaritan s Purse Please make checks payable to Wesley UMC noting that is for Operation Christmas Child AND NEW THIS YEAR: Do not pack toothpaste or any candy These items will be removed from the boxes
