The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone. Before Worship As you prepare to worship your Lord today, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer before the service. Review the lessons, the service notes, and pray this prayer: Prayer of the Day Almighty and merciful God, it is only by Your gift of grace that we come into Your presence and offer true and faithful service. Grant that our worship on earth may always be pleasing to You, and in the life to come give us the fulfillment of what You have promised; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. We have come together in the presence of God our heavenly Father, to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at His hand, to set forth His most worthy praise, to hear His holy Word, and to ask for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and salvation. O come, let us worship Him! Let us kneel and bow down before Him. Let us confess our sins with penitent hearts, and obtain forgiveness by His infinite grace and mercy. 6 The Lesson Isaiah 56:1, This is what the LORD says: "Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. 6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant 7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." 8 The Sovereign LORD declares he who gathers the exiles of Israel: "I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered." The Epistle Romans 11:13-15, I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. 15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? Congratulations to Noah and Courtney Thompson on the birth of their son, Elliot David, last Thursday. That same day, Elliot was baptized by Pastor Hartwig and made a child of God. May the Lord keep Elliot in his baptismal grace forever. Sunday School and Adult Bible Class will resume TODAY at 9:45AM. Jesus' Lambs at Peace Preschool began its 11 th year in operation. Currently, we have a total of 44 students in our preschool. We began our year with an old time favorite Bible Story, David and Goliath. The children learned that it was God who really defeated the giant. They learned that it is God who is our Savior and has also defeated our biggest enemy, sin, when he died on a cross and rose again from the dead. Lutheran Girl Pioneers - Girls in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade you are invited to attend Lutheran Girl Pioneers at Mt. Olive this year. We meet once a month on Sundays from 5-7 pm. We will have a devotion, do some crafts, learn about our time, talents and treasures, and enjoy dinner together. The cost for the year is $30 to cover the cost of crafts and dues to the national office. We invite you to join us for our first meeting on Sunday, September 14. Please bring a sack dinner. Moms are welcome to stay and join in our fun! We hope to see you there! Bethany Events Art lecture - Professor Bill Bukowski presents an art lecture on his oil painting exhibit, "The Garden, The Path and The Cottage" on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the YFAC Gallery. Reception to follow. Free. Fall Festival Join us September for the Bethany Fall Festival. Fun for all ages is planned. Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, Theatre Physics, BLC Soccer and Volleyball games, Alumni Reunions, inflatables activities - games for kids, hayrides around campus, live music, and more. There will be an Alumni & Friends Reception on Saturday the 20th at 4:00pm in Honsey Hall. Also, there will be an all you care to eat pancake breakfast in Honsey Hall on Sunday from 10:15am - 1:00pm (costs are $10, $5 for children 10 and under, and age 3 and under eat free). All proceeds go to support student services on campus. Italy trip info meeting Wednesday, September 10, 7 p.m. in YFAC Bill Bukowski will present information about an upcoming art trip to Italy in March 2015, over Bethany's spring break. During his decades of teaching, Bill has led numerous tour groups to Italy's top art destinations including Florence, Rome, Venice and Assisi. Travel in Italy, surrounded by masterpieces of Western art, is a life experience not to be missed. The public is invited to attend and learn about this tour opportunity. 13 Moms on a Mission (M.O.M.s) Bible Study Moms supporting moms in raising godly children A Bible Study for women to gather, support and strengthen each other in our vocation as moms. While the mothers gather, the children have an opportunity to learn Bible stories, sing songs and play with friends in a supervised environment. 2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
