American Evangelical Christian University Excellence in Christian higher education Since 1999 The educational ministry of the American Evangelical Christian Churches (Established 1944) Believers Linked Together ~ Proclaiming the Gospel Message 2011-B Course Catalog and Student Handbook

American Evangelical Christian University Office of the President Dear Prospective Student, Greetings and welcome to the American Evangelical Christian University! The word minister comes from a Latin word meaning to be a servant. As a Christian, each of us has been called to serve. In a manner of speaking, we are all therefore ministers (whether ordained or lay). As such, each of us has been called to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Our mission at the American Evangelical Christian University is to help you become professionally trained and equipped to better serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to help minister to the needs of the Lord s family. People ask Do you follow and instruct in the teachings of this person or that person? We try to expose our students to various Christian thoughts while always keeping in mind that the innerant; infallible Word of God is the only absolute authority. Man is welcome to their opinion and their interpretation. However, it is God s Word (Holy Bible) that supercedes all and that is how our courses are taught. After reviewing our catalog, we believe you will find the AECU to be an excellent choice one that will meet or exceed your goals for a quality Christian higher education. If you should have any questions or if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Sincerely in Christ, Dr. Gordon N. Elliott President American Evangelical Christian University i.

Articles of Faith In conjunction with the American Evangelical Christian Churches, the American Evangelical Christian University subscribes to the following Articles of Faith: 1. The Holy Bible as the infallible, written Word of God. 2. The Holy Trinity One God in Three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 3. The virgin birth of Jesus, the Christ. 4. The Deity of Jesus, the Christ. 5. The salvation of sinners by faith through the atonement of Jesus, the Christ. 6. The guidance of our lives through prayer to the Father, through Jesus, the Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. 7. The visible and eternal reign of the Savior Jesus, the Christ. Structure The American Evangelical Christian University is neither a professional school, a college of liberal arts, nor a theological seminary. It is an independent university focusing on theological studies based upon fundamental Biblical principles. Strictly interdenominational, the AECU strives to be evangelical in character. Ministers, Chaplains, Christian Workers, Religious Education Directors, Teachers, Missionaries, Worship Leaders and Youth Ministers from many denominational backgrounds have found the academic disciplines presented to be invaluable to their field of ministry. The American Evangelical Christian University is the education ministry of the American Evangelical Christian Churches an internationally recognized Christian denomination. The American Evangelical Christian University is headquartered, registered and licensed in the State of Indiana. Description of AECU Colleges The American Evangelical Christian University (also referred to herein as AECU) is comprised of four distinct colleges. Each colleges exists for the purpose of offering students an opportunity to obtain a level of professional development equivalent to non- Christian specific or church related colleges, universities, or seminaries. 1.

The four colleges are: AECU College of Christian Studies offers studies leading to an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree (concentration: Ministry). AECU College of the Bible offers studies leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in ministry (B.Min.) or in missions (B.A.). AECU College of Ministry offers studies leading to a Master of Arts in Ministry (M.Min.) degree or a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree. AECU College of Graduate Studies offers studies leading to a Master of Arts (M.A.) Degree (Concentration: Christian Counseling) or a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree. History of the AECU The AECU was founded as the American Evangelical Bible College in 1999 by the Christian denomination known as the American Evangelical Christian Churches. Rapid growth required more advanced programs, necessitating expansion from college to university status. In 2005 the AEBC was renamed the American Evangelical Christian University. The sole purpose of the AECU is to provide a high quality and affordable program of higher education with a unique approach to learning. The University and its associated colleges are predicated on the fundamental principles of the Christian faith, the authority of the Holy Bible, and sound educational curricula. Information Concerning Accreditation The decision to attend any college or university is ultimately the students. Accreditation is a process that gives public recognition of certain academic standards by an association of higher learning that is higher than itself. Essentially, accreditation is designed to assure a prospective student that the college or university they are applying to offers up-to-date programs that are academically sound, have carefully screened students for admissions, provides a competent, qualified and quality staff, and advertises itself in a truthful manner. Through our on going, annual, self-review, we believe our courses meet or exceed all of these requirements. Accreditation does not mean however, that the course work from one institution of higher learning will automatically be accepted by another institution of higher learning. The decision to accept or reject previous credits is at the discretion of the accepting college, university or employer. 2.

One difference is that we do not offer Title IV funding for student loans. Our prices are kept intentionally low so that our students do not have to put themselves deep into debt while in pursuit of a higher education. The accrediting process is long and expensive and we would prefer not to have that cost added to our students. As a Christian university and believing in the separation of church and state, the AECU does not choose to participate in the U.S. Department of Education acknowledgement process. We believe that it might compromise the privacy of our students and that it would be an infringement on our religious freedom. The AECU is designed to provide Christian higher education in Biblical studies and as such, our degrees may not apply to all job situations not related to church service. Approaches to Programs of Study Distance Learning Modern technological advances provide the student with a number of educational options. By using the Internet, , CD s, postal correspondence, etc., today s student can participate in challenging educational opportunities previously unavailable. AECU s off-campus studies provide the student with an opportunity to complete a high quality and affordable program of higher Christian education from the comfort and ease of their own home. The advantages of distance learning are unlimited and may include, but are not limited to: systematic study in their own home without discontinuing present employment and/or relocating to a distant campus site, and studying at your own pace with no age limitations or restrictions. Courses may be taken one at a time in contrast to on-campus programs where several courses are taken simultaneously. This allows the student to internalize each course and digest its contents fully before plunging into another course of study. In residence study, a student generally completes five courses per semester, averaging a total of fifteen semester hour credits each term. A two-semester residence program enables the student to earn thirty credit hours. By comparison, a student who averages one three-semester hour course each month for ten months in the AECU s distance learning program will also complete thirty semester hours. 3.

By maintaining this pace, the off-campus student is encouraged to complete a threesemester hour course each month. Courses carrying six-semester hour s credit should be completed in two months, and so on. At this pace the student studying by distance can complete approximately the same amount of material as the student in the residence program in the same amount of time or less. Intensive Seminars The AECU in cooperation and coordination with the Board of Directors of the American Evangelical Christian Churches may offer intensive seminars at various times and locations. Approved AECU professors teach the intensive seminars. A total of up to three credits may be earned per intensive seminar. Additional reading and/or course assignments may be required in addition to attending the seminar. All assignments by professors must be completed and passed prior to credit being awarded for that course. For further details on intensive seminars and eligibility, please contact the President of the University. Admissions To apply for admission to the American Evangelical Christian University, simply complete and mail the Application for Admission form provided as an insert to this catalog, along with the appropriate registration and course fees. Note: You may take any course individually without having to be enrolled in a degree program. Credits earned from individual courses may be applied to a specific degree program. Tuition / Fees / Payment The investment in your education is outlined on the enclosed tuition and fees pricing guide insert. Payment may be made in one of two ways: 1. You may pre-pay for the entire degree program up front. All books and materials for that program will be shipped upon receipt of your payment. 2. You may pre-pay for one course at a time. Once your payment and written request for the next course is received, all books and materials for that course will be shipped to you. 4.

Scholarships Based on availability of funding, the AECU Board of Regents may grant partial scholarships on a limited basis to those who hold current credentials with the American Evangelical Christian Churches (AECC). Contact the President of the AECU for more information. Matriculation of Academic Credit Evaluation of previous academic work requires an official transcript from each college/university to be presented at time of enrollment. All previous work will be evaluated and a final determination will be made as to how many credits may or may not transfer. A detailed degree plan will be sent to the student at that time. A minimum of 25 credits must be taken through the AECU for each degree program. Transcripts For legal reasons, the student must submit their request in writing along with the appropriate fee. No other request will be honored. If the transcript is to be sent to another institution of higher learning or potential employer, please provide full contact information as these transcripts will be sent directly to them and not to the student. There is a charge for this service. Please see number two under the Fees section of the enclosed tuition and fees pricing guide. Books and Materials Other than a Bible (and Halleys Bible Handbook for some courses) required textbooks and materials are provided by the AECU and are included in the price of your tuition. The AECU will not purchase them back. They are yours to keep for your own personal library. Unless specifically requested, course materials will be sent via an attachment (if no textbook is required for that course) or on a CD (if textbook is required). For a printed version of the course instead of on a CD, there will be an extra charge. Please see number three under the Fees section of the enclosed tuition and fees pricing guide. 5.

Reactivation of Inactive Students Students who fail to communicate with their professor, College Dean, or the Administration Office (either by lesson, address change notification, or telephone) for more three months, will be placed on the inactive list and a reactivation fee may apply. Please see number four under Fees section of the enclosed tuition and fees pricing guide. Communication It is the responsibility of the student to notify the Administration Office of any changes to name, address, telephone number, address, etc. Catalog Requirements For each degree specific program, students will need to satisfy the requirements found on their degree plan. A copy of this plan will be sent to the student and a duplicate will be placed in the student s file. Students who are inactive for a period of one or more years will need to satisfy the requirements of the catalog currently in effect. An updated degree plan will be mailed and a duplicate will be placed in the student s file. Grading Rubrics To maintain consistency throughout each of the AECU colleges, the following grading rubrics have been developed and implemented: A 4.0 Superior D 1.0 Below Average B 3.0 Above Average F 0.0 Failure C 2.0 Average I 0.0 Incomplete Incomplete grades not re-submitted within 120 days will be recorded as a failure. The student must maintain a 2.0 level in order to continue to the next level or in order to graduate. 6.

Graduation Requirements A Certificate of Completion will be issued upon the successful completion of each course. All academic work for degrees must be completed and submitted to the appropriate professorial staff prior to May 31st in the year in which the student plans to graduate. The professor will then submit this information to the appropriate College Dean. The Dean of the College in which the program has been completed will notify the Administration of the University that the student has met the academic requirements and is ready for graduation. When all academic requirements have been met and when all fees have been received and recorded, the Administration of the University will submit the name of the student to the Board of Regents for candidacy for the appropriate degree. Upon recommendation of the Administration of the University, The Board of Regents will then award the degree earned. The requirements for the degree will be determined by the rules stated under Catalog Requirements stated on page six. The Board of Regents may require a student whose enrollment has continued beyond five years to graduate according to the requirements stipulated in the most current catalog. Commencement All diplomas will be awarded at the annual commencement exercises. Commencement exercises are typically conducted the last weekend in July of each year in Indianapolis, IN, so as to coincide with the annual International Conference of the American Evangelical Christian Churches. Prior notification as to place, date and time will be given. On rare occasions a student may be granted permission to graduate in absentia. To apply for permission, the student must inform the Administration Office of the University as to the reason why they are not able to attend the commencement exercises and request permission to graduate in absentia. With approval of the Board of Regents, the earned diploma will be mailed to the student after the annual commencement exercise. 7.

Academic Regalia Associates Masters Level The wearing of appropriate academic regalia is required for participation in the commencement exercises. Black robes with mortarboards with a gold tassel are required. A degree specific hood is required. The purchase of such hood is the responsibility of the student. The AECU has a limited number of generic robes and mortarboards that may be used for the ceremony. These are available by request on a first-come, first-served basis. The gold tassel will be provided by the AECU and is yours to keep. Doctorate Level Black doctoral robes with appropriate doctoral chevrons, eight sided tams with gold tassel, and doctoral capes with appropriate academic and University colors are required. The purchase of such regalia is the responsibility of the student. Generally, the academic colors for the hood or cape are as follows: The University colors are Royal blue and gold. The degree color for ministry is Crimson. You are free to use any regalia manufacturer you wish. If requested, the University will furnish you with a list of academic regalia manufacturers. Please Note: If planning to purchase a robe, mortarboard, tam, hood or cape, please order and allow a minimum of ten weeks prior to graduation. This is necessary for two reasons: First, graduation regalia are made to order. Since there are many graduations nationally during the May-June time period, manufacturers are quite overloaded with orders and need time to process. Second, many regalia manufacturers shut down from one to two weeks for vacations during June or July. They will not manufacture or ship during this time. 8.

A Final Thought You might be asking yourself Why aren t the AECU programs $20, to $30, (or more) per year like everyone else? The answer is simple. Our goal is our calling to provide you with a high quality Christian education without having high prices as a deterrent. Does less cost mean an inferior education? Not at all. Since our programs are on-line or by correspondence, basically what we charge is the amount needed to cover our costs for general operating expenses. If you review catalogs from other colleges and universities, you will also notice a long list of fees that you will be expected to pay. Other than one or two, we don t do this. As we are able, we are providing this as a ministry to you so that you can be properly and professionally trained to minister to others in the name of Jesus Christ. We don t sell or give degrees away. You will have to earn it, as you should. In our case, a lower cost does not mean a lesser education. Please note that anything a student provides in addition to their course costs will be used to help keep our programs affordable in the future. --- You may also want to consider one or more of the following: -A tax-deductible gift of any amount with the understanding that nothing was exchanged or given in exchange for your donation. * -Naming the AECU as a beneficiary on a life insurance product. * -Naming the AECU in your will. * The AECU motto is Veritas Causa which means For the Cause of Truth. Any/all contributions are appreciated, as it will help ensure the future of high quality education in the absolute Truth Jesus Christ. --- * The American Evangelical Christian Churches is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit church denomination. The AECU is the educational ministry of the AECC. Tax deductible donations requiring a receipt should be made out to the American Evangelical Christian Churches and earmarked for the AECU. Thank you and may God richly bless you now and always! 29.
