3 KSM Prison Ministry During the last 14 years, KSM Medical team, evangelists, believers and God s servants from different churches joined KSM team to visit Bangalore New Central Prison, Bangalore Open Air Prison, Kolar District Prison and Tumkur District Prisons to monitor the health need of the prisoners, at the same time sharing the Gospel and giving spiritual counseling based on the Biblical principles. A number of convicted and under-trial prisoners yielded to the message and were grateful to the Lord for saving them from sin and its guilt and experience eternal life. Visit to Kolar District Jail on 14th June 2008 I praise and thank the Almighty God for giving me the opportunity to accompany with Bro. Bobby Abraham and the KSM Prison Ministry team led by Rev. B. D. Immanuel. There were about 250 prisoners in Kolar District Jail. We started at 8:30 a.m. and returned at 3:30 p.m. by the KSM M o b i l e Ambulance. KSM team members sang Gospel songs, preached the good news and (Above) KSM Medical and Evangelistic Staff with volunteers, presenting Gospel song, Anitha at Keyboard, Kevin with guitar at the women s prison hall. As we entered the jail, the security guard gathered together the entire prisoners for fellowship and medical check-up. One doctor and five trainee nurses from the Methodist H o s p i t a l stationed in Kolar joined us. The hospital authorities also hosted lunch for all the team members. We praise God for the kindness shown to us and it is our prayer that God will bless them. The two doctors and half a dozen nurses had a Herculean task examining all the prisoners. Medicines were distributed. While the physical checkup was being carried out, our members distributed Gospel tracts and Bibles and shared the Word of God with them. Some of the prisoners were given spiritual counseling. I believe God spoke to each one of the prisoners in a special way. The Bible verses that came into my mind were Matthew 9:37 the harvest is so great but the workers are so few; Matthew 25:36 I was in prison and you visited me; John 9:4 as long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. The days spent in prison are like nights for them because they cannot work for their family and for the Lord. I know that God loves all the prisoners and wants to forgive their sins. It is my prayer that prisoners should 3 MAY / AUGUST 2008

Jesus said, it is finished! (John 19:30). The big lesson for me is that, I should involve and invest more of my time to pray for the prisoners. When we are so fortunate to enjoy all the benefits and blessings from the heavenly father, let us remember our prison brothers and sisters in our daily prayers. Prisoners can only and really be set free by the Word of God. We have a vital role to play in this regard by giving donations and voluntary contributions for the free medical checkup and free m e d i c i n e distribution for all the prisoners. May God speak and open the hearts of all who read this report. If you have a heart for the prisoners, please do contact the KSM. I am very thankful for the KSM Prison Ministry and I praise God for the life of Rev. B. D. Immanuel. Thank you and God bless you. D. P. Haokip, IRS Commissioner of Income Tax, KSM Board of Trustee & KSM Prison Ministry Team member KSM Medical Ministry (from page 2) very smoothly, all the patients were happy and satisfied. We are very grateful to Dr. Susan John and her team, Dr. Muktha, eye surgeon at Jain Hospital for joining hands with KSM to conduct this camp. Dr. Susan John is very keen to have a another Free Eye Check-up camp next at KSM Mission Centre Clinic at Kothanur Narayanapura in the near future. She has expressed her desire to have regular camps at both the KSM Clinics, once every six months. The Lord is using us in KSM Clinics in a very humble way to spread His love. I cannot forget the happiness on a number of village, prison and slum patients faces, who expressed satisfaction at the treatment given. God is using our KSM Clinic in a big way to spread the message of the Gospel. May God use all at KSM for His Glory in serving the poor and needy at both Koramangala Slum and at KSM Mission Centre Clinic at Kothanur Narayanapura and villages around KSM Mission Centre. Report by Dr. Moses Albert, MD Dr. Shanthi Samuel, MBBS Apart from your prayers, KSM needs your financial help for its different Ministries. 5 KSM Outreach and Evangelism at Chitradurga District Chitradurga means picture of forts. Tourists flock to this place, which at one time was the scene of many a battle. The pre-independence period saw fierce battles between the local leaders and the British kings. Chitradurga is located in the north of Karnataka, about 200 kilometers from Bangalore. As you approach this town, you get the impression that this town is located on a plain. Not so! Chitradurga is surrounded by rocky mountainous terrain, an ideal location for battle. Chitradurga district has been labeled as a drought prone area for many years. Water scarcity is acute in this district and sometimes people leave their homes and move to other places in search for food. In the hilly regions surrounding Chitradurga, the soil is very hard and agriculture is almost impossible. In such an area, KSM is doing evangelistic work in Vijapura, Laxmisagar, Biravara, Balugatte, Pallakkihalli and Chickbennur villages of Chitradurga district, through our evangelist, brother Kanthraj. Though Chitradurga district is dominated by Lingayaths (high caste) and is considered one of the hardest mission fields in Karnataka; but the Lord is at work and He is using our evangelists mightily. The above mentioned 6 villages are in Chitradurga Taluk area. Many bears roam around the surrounding hills making life difficult for the people. Rainfall is scanty. Men, women and children above 15 years. work as labourers in fields, but owing to low rainfall, few people have irrigation facilities. People belonging to different castes live here. They are idolaters. A number of temples in these villages organize jathras (village fairs). In each village, about 200 to 300 sheep are sacrificed to these idols. At such time, people drink, gamble and fight, resulting in injuries and fatalities. The Lingayaths assert that they belong to higher caste and perform the rites of tying the linga and assuming that God is with them. Nevertheless they indulge in sinful acts at other times with a few exceptions. I try to visit each and every house in these villages and talk to them about salvation and their need of a Saviour. In Vijapura village, where I stay, I started a worship service, a ladies meeting, presenting the Gospel through TV and conducting cottage prayer meetings. Our message is that Jesus is the only Savior. All people have sinned and that the wages of sin is death. Many people have come to know that through Jesus they can find eternal life and salvation. Sometimes I visit the fields and speak to the people right where they work. Other times, I visit schools after receiving permission from school authorities to talk to the teachers and the children about the Lord Jesus Christ. To the Glory of God, I can say that a few have come to the personal knowledge of the Savior. Others have even openly professed their faith. There are some others who are genuinely interested and there are a few Lingayaths among them. Social work also forms an integral part of our ministry. KSM Mobile Clinic consisting of Dr. Moses, Dr. Cheriyan, nurses, driver, conducted a free health check up camp for the village men, women and children. Other times, we take sick people to the hospitals and provide solace and comfort to them. (Some non-christians also trouble us from time to time. They even threaten our worship service with dire consequences if believers are seen going to church worship service. In spite of stiff opposition, God is giving us strength to work in these villages. Many people, our opponents in particular, have understood the evil of their actions and want to follow the Lord. At the same time, they do not like to give up their old habits. Their strong attachment to worldly pleasure makes them feel that the Christian life is too difficult.) We are praying for these people and often visit them to continually present them with the consequences of a life outside the will of God. Some believers help us in our efforts to reach these dear ones for the Lord. Would you suppport us in prayer? H. Kanthraj and wife serving KSM since 2007 along with their two sons and a daughter. 6 Outreach Work at Bluff, Kollegal, Malavalli and Diddapur areas It is with great joy and deep gratitude I thank and praise the Lord for the opportunity to serve Him through KSM from 10th May On 11th May, KSM outreach team and I joined the Rajajinagar Brethren Assembly, Bluff, Kollegal, Malavalli and Diddapur of Chamrajnagar Assemblies for an outreach program in Shivanasamudra village of Malavalli taluk between 11th 18th May Altogether, we were about 200 people. Only one day we could go out for outreach program to 8 villages where the village people were receptive. But in the last village, we faced severe opposition from some fanatics. Other days, we spent time in Bible studies and prayer time. Six of God s servants from the above mentioned Brethren Assemblies including Rev. B. D. Immanuel from KSM led us in deeper life Scriptural studies. However, all the participants had to put up with a lot of hardships because of extremely poor facilities. In addition, the team had to trek through dusty paths to reach some of the villages. Our day would begin with personal and group devotional time. All the 8 days, a group of committed ladies from the team of 200 prepared the food for the rest of the team, keeping it on its feet! We are grateful to Mrs. and Mr. Rathnaiah and family for providing meals and Bro. Kannan and Bluff Assembly brothers who had arranged for accommodation for all of us. On the last day, Sunday, the 18th of May 2008, Rev. B. D. Immanuel s message brought immense blessings to all of us. We praise God for this. Also, we praise God for the opportunities given me to share the Gospel to a number of patients at KSM Mission Centre Clinic, Koramangala Slum Clinic and in 4 different prisons. A number of patients, slum dwellers and prisoners who showed interest are happy to receive the Gospel tracts and booklet. I had a blessed time in the KSM Clinics and among the patients and prisoners in 4 different prisons sharing God s Word and testimonies. Tens and hundreds of Gospel booklets, Gospels and New Testaments were distributed to them. Please join along with us in praying to the Lord that many would experience the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, through the Scripture portions that they have with them and enjoy eternal life. H. Kanthraj and Joseph Endigeri KSM Evangelists Skills Training and Building Character KSM Tailoring Training builds character, strengthens the mind and expands the intellect by which unemployed women and school dropout girls can support themselves. This vocational training program launched by the KSM trust for the underprivileged is recognized by the Karnataka Government. A value based Training Programme offers training in tailoring and in the art of embroidery. With marketing becoming the keyword in all business operations, and Bangalore turning out to be the hub of garment industries, the demand for tailors in future is projected to be very high. This is precisely the rationale behind choosing these two subjects for the KSM vocational program. KSM Trustees thought it was much better to teach unemployed women and school dropout girls baking techniques, rather than give them a loaf every day. Truly, the students are not only learning the skills, but also changing the quality of their own lives. Very good progress has been made in both the tailoring training department where 26 school dropout girls and unemployed women from non-christian backgrounds from the Koramangala slum and 8 at KSM Mission Centre are receiving training. All of them are eager to learn the trade. Here there is an opportunity to share the Gospel to them and pass on the Gospel literature to them. 7 From the Executive Director s Desk Dearly beloved friends and prayer partners, Warm and sincere greetings to you all who have been praying, supporting and standing with us in the worthy calling with which we have been called. Indeed, the Lord is constantly at work in our midst and we have much to praise Him for. As you read this newsletter, I trust that you will rejoice with us as you see His faithfulness and constant leading and guiding of our efforts. The KSM s five different ministries, namely Evangelistic Outreach, Medical, Prison, Tailoring Training and Yearly Gospel meetings continue to grow for Him, and because of Him. The Lord strengthened Joshua, after Moses went to be with the Lord as per God s guidance and energized to do great things for the Lord. In the book of Joshua, Chapter 1:3, we read of the promise given to Joshua. The promise was that, every place that the sole of our foot will tread upon, I have given to you, as I said to Moses. The Lord promises great things for us in this land, so that, we can Dr. M. Albert and Bro. Joseph Endigeri in front of the huge jackfruit tree at KSM Mission Centre. hopefully hold on to His promises and pray for deliverance of our people from the bondage of sin, Satan and all kinds of evil habits. Many need the very Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for the deliverance of their life in the society and also in their own life as a person and in their family. The promise the Lord has given, assures us that the Lord is promising to do this great work of salvation and deliverance in the land of Karnataka of India, through us in KSM, when we commit to pray and work with Him. The Lord assures us His powerful presence with us. He will make those prosperous, who serve His kingdom s concerns. When we fulfill our commitment to follow the Lord s commands, the Lord fulfills His great promise to prosper us in our work and life. As you read this report, it is my prayer that you give God the Glory. As we are about to complete 25 years of KSM Ministry, our hope is still in His promises and provisions while we continue to covet your prayers and faithfulness in supporting the KSM Ministry ahead. Looking back, we are amazed at what the Lord has accomplished through His servants, and God s people in these most needy people in villages, prison, slum, churches, assemblies and much change is evident on many levels of KSM ministry. But we do not want to rest on our past laurels. We need to press on. Indeed, the self-centered politician, the erratic nature of the monsoon so far and the low level of water storage in the reservoirs have contributed to major power crises in Karnataka. This year, announcement of electricity loadshedding schedule of 2-4 hrs in Bangalore and 8-10 hrs. in rural areas has been announced. Karnataka has been an energy-deficit state for the last 15 years. This situation is because of the lack of forward thinking on the part of the successive governments and people s resistance to power-projects. In the last week of July 08, terrorists were striking in Jaipur of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Bangalore of Karnataka, Ahmedabad of Gujarat. Our nation has gone through much turmoil and upheaval. During the past few years, we have seen the powers of darkness display senseless fanaticism, destruction and violence, man hating man on the basis of religion and God. The rise in religious fundamentalism is hampering our national growth. These incidents have shaken the very foundation of the country s secular democracy. What is the cause for this? Though many reasons have been given by the media, one newspaper pinpointed it very aptly with the headline we have met the enemy, and he is us. The problem is with us. A sinful unrepentant self is in rebellion against God and against each other. This is because all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God - Romans 3:23. But, the Sovereign God who created man in His image, to glorify and worship, is grieved. The poor, the hungry, the oppressed, the depressed, greatly affect Christ. His compassion moved Him. When we are reconciled with God, we are Every fortnight, personnel of different KSM Ministries gather with Rev. B. D. Immanuel to discuss, plan and review their work. 7 MAY / AUGUST 2008

Whether we are frontline servants or those who pray and support them, we are all partners in the Gospel Philippians 1:5 Does the compassion of Christ compel us and drive us to deny everything and take up the cross? Do we invest all the five loaves and two fishes and whatever resources we have to feed the spiritually hungry? There is only limited time on hand. Let us continue to pray to the Lord our God for our beloved land so that the power of darkness will be defeated and the light of the word will shine forth with power and glory. What makes me so happy is the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the non- Christians. In the month of May, I had an opportunity to share the Gospel to one Mr. Ashok and his wife Poornima, a Marathi family who came to the KSM Mission Centre, and to one Mr. Hari, a Gujarathi, who owns Nandhi Saw Mill Woods at Rev. B. D. Immanuel and KSM Evangelist Bro. Joseph Endigeri with the principal, teaching and nonteaching staff of CSI College of Commerce. Kothanur, who came to the KSM Mission Centre Clinic to have a check-up with the KSM doctor Dr. Moses Albert. During the month of June, I had an opportunity to meet our supporters family, Mrs. Ezra, her daughter Anita, son-in-law Karkada, her grandchildren, Mrs. Markus family, Mrs. & Prof. Samuel Antin and family, Mrs. Dr. Emmanuel Malekar and family, where I shared God s Word and had a wonderful time of fellowship and hospitality. On Sunday, the 8th of June 2008, I had the opportunity to bring God s message at CSI Hebich Memorial Church at Dharwad and the same day evening, I brought God s Word at the Prayer Hall of Bro. John Endigeri. The next day, on 9th June 2008, I was invited by Dr. Emmanuel Malekar, the principal of Kittel CSI College of Commerce, Dharwad, to bring God s message and share about the different ministries of KSM to their 35 teaching and nonteaching staff. The ministry of the Word of God in homes, churches and prayer hall, brought immense blessings to the participants in all the places. Thank you once again for your Dr. Emmanuel Malekar, the Principal of CSI College of Commerce, Dharwad who invited Rev. B. D. Immanuel to share God s Word. sacrificial giving and prayers. We can never press on without your continuous support and prayers. May God bless you and your family richly and keep the people of Karnataka and of India in focus for His Glory, identifying with the prayer of Jesus Christ that, they may know thee, the only true God. Remember too, you are blessed to become a blessing! Yours in Christ s Mission, Rev. B. D. Immanuel Skills Training (from page 6) trade and techniques of tailoring and embroidery. We recently had special guests - Mrs. Martina Osele and her 3 children. They were staying at the home of the KSM Executive Director and spent time at both the tailoring training centres. They were impressed to witness the work done in these centres where poor people are helped to help themselves. Mrs. Beulah Immanuel KSM Office Manager. MAY / AUGUST

9 A Donor who visited KSM Mission Centre and participated in the Prison Ministry writes... It is with great pleasure that I am conveying my happiness and gratitude through this letter of mine. The rewarding visit to KSM is still fresh in our minds. It was very kind of you to have visited our home here in Dharwad with Bro. Joseph Endigeri. When we heard your testimony, we were all amazed and thankful to the Lord at the way He guided you. I am most happy that my children could listen to you exclusively in our home. I am sure it has made an impact on them. And we count ourselves privileged to be invited to KSM, and witness all the work that you, your family and your team are doing for the Lord. As we entered the KSM campus, we could hear the devotional songs being sung and were very happy to participate in the prayer and meditation. The highlight of the prayer time was that each member present participated enthusiastically, the atmosphere was such. The clinic too is well equipped and the doctor and nurses are so forthcoming. I wish more people would visit the clinic and avail themselves of its benefits. Then came the time for the exciting trip to the Open Air Jail after a tea break. The 35 odd kilometer journey was enjoyable too. It is really great to minister about our loving Father among the inmates of the jail. This is the first time I have ever seen the ministry at work among prisoners. The inmates hurried to the doctor like long lost friends. The doctor too treated them deftly and tenderly. The nurses dispensed the medicines and my daughter enjoyed assisting them. Every inmate of the jail was given medicine and therapeutic tonics and tablets free of charges. Even the jailers and wards consulted the doctor for their ailments. In return for the service rendered by the medical team, the inmates presented us a bag full of mangoes grown and tendered by them. Along with the medicine, they were reminded of the love of Christ and His leading. The doctor kept up the time schedule and started back, reaching KSM by 2 o clock. We were glad to go through the steady growth of KSM from its humble beginning to a strong and worthwhile ministry, spreading the Word of God, making the life of so many people coming in touch with Jesus Christ at KSM. One of the ministries to which my mother sends monetary help along with her prayers is KSM. And you are the only one ministry, which has made known to us all about the ministry personally. You have taken time to witness to us, telling actually what it involves to run and nurture a ministry. I am thankful to you, especially, for letting us have a close view of your ministry and we appreciate all the work being done. My children and I are really impressed with KSM. My mother has expressed her appreciation without actually seeing it being conducted with her own eyes and she would have been the happiest person if she had an opportunity like me. Thank you and your wife for the delicious lunch served lovingly and the great companionship we enjoyed while we were with you. My husband Bennet too, was delighted to know about our experience at KSM and hopes to visit the campus one-day soon. My mother, husband, son Brian, daughter Avril and me send our regards and best wishes to you, your wife, daughter Anitha and son Kevin. Our regards also to all the staff at KSM. My children remember the two pet dogs too. Thank you Rev. Immanuel, Affectionately, Anita Karkada. 23rd June 2008 To God Be The Glory!
