1 Lesson 4: Psalms Psalm 25 A Prayer for Guidance, Pardon, and Protection 1. What three assurances does David depend on to help him through life's difficulties? 2. This Psalm teachers us to submit ourselves to the Lord in meekness. How does meekness differ from weakness? 3. What enemies did God help David conquer? Psalm 26 A Protestation of Integrity 4. David had to contend with hypocrites. What help do you find in Psalm 26 for contending with hypocrites? Psalm 27 Wait on the Lord (See Moore's Bible Study Lesson 4) 5. Where was David living when he wrote this Psalm? 6. This is the first time in Scripture that light is used as a metaphor for God. What is the idea of the truth that Jehovah is our light?

2 7. What is the ONE thing that David desires? Why? Is this also true of us? 8. Why is it important that Jehovah hides us in His pavilion? 9. Our feet are set upon a rock (v 5). What is the rock the church is set upon? 10. What is the idea of the phrase 'mine head be lifted up'? 11. Are you a singing mother in the home; do you teach your children to sing praises unto the Lord? Do we sing with joy the praises of God as we ought? 12. (v 7) Right in the middle of this Psalm we have this prayer for mercy. Why is this? 13. What is it to seek the face of God? (v 8) 14. Do you think that David felt that his parents actually forsook him? (v 10) What is it that David is saying? 15. Are there times when we are not as faithful to the care of our children as we ought to be? Do we overlook the sin of our children? Would this be forsaking them?

3 16. What is the idea of a 'plain path' in which we would be led? (v 11) 17. God's people are despised and hated by the world of men, and this leads to false accusations brought against them. (v 12) What warning should this give to us about much gossip that is found from time to time in the congregation? 18. Why would David faint, if he could not believe that he would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living? 19. What does it mean to you that we wait on Jehovah? Is there a similarity between waiting on the LORD and to "be still" as found in Psalm 4:4? Psalm 28 A Prayer for Help and Praise for Its Answer 20. What changed David's sobbing into singing? Has unjust treatment ever worked for your spiritual good? If so, how?

4 Psalm 29 The Voice of the Lord in the Storm 21. vs 1. Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty. What audience does the psalmist address? Quote from Calvin's Commentary: " It was no doubt David's design to lead all men to worship and reverence God; but as it is more difficult to reduce great men, who excel in rank, to order, he expressly addresses himself to them...about the signification of the word, indeed, the Jewish commentators are all agreed; but when they proceed to speak of its meaning, they pervert and obscure it by the most chilling comments. Some expound it of the angels, some of the stars; and others will have it, that by the great men who are referred to are meant the holy fathers. But David only intended to humble the princes of this world, who, being intoxicated with pride, lift up their horns against God, with a terrific voice, subduing by thunders, hail-storms, tempests, and lightnings, these stubborn and stiff-necked giants, who, if they are not struck with fear, refuse to stand in awe of any power in heaven...in short, he exhorts them to lay aside their haughtiness, and their false opinion about their own strength, and to glorify God as he deserves." 22. What does "the voice of the Lord" do (vv 3-9)? What characteristics of God do these verses bring to mind? 23. What does verse 9 tell us about the proper response to hearing the voice of God? 24. Most of Psalm 29 describes the actions of God as a mighty and powerful rainstorm, inspiring not only awe, but even fear. However, the psalm ends (v 11) describing the actions of God in quite a different manner. How does this complete the picture of God that David has painted?
