1 10 Day Pilgrimage to Poland and Prague Following in the Footsteps of Saints John Paul II, Faustina (Divine Mercy), and Maximilian Kolbe October 6-15, 2016 Dear Fellow Pilgrim, Be a part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy 2016 by joining us on a special trip and faith exploration to Poland and Prague as we follow the footsteps of the saints of mercy! You will meet new friends, enjoy local cuisine, and learn the incredible history these places have to offer. Because of Blessed Pope John Paul II, Poland has become a very popular pilgrimage destination. It is a land with a heritage of strong and deep faith in the face of opposition and hostility. St. John s Cathedral, The Royal Castle, and St. James Church will leave you breathless with wonder while the Jewish Ghetto and Auschwitz will provide places on contemplative reflection on strong faith and humanity. Think recently not only of Blessed John Paul, but also of St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Faustina Kowalska. We will not only pray to them, but we will also visit some places where they lived and worked. The trip will be a real blessing! Remember, too, that we will be visiting Prague, a city with centuries of history, holy shrines, and fine art. There will also be incredible churches and shrines where we will have daily Mass and visit other memorable and historic sites. We worked hard on this pilgrimage to offer you the best places to visit, excellent restaurants, and good hotels. You will join other members of our Miraculous Medal family and strengthen your faith as you walk, pray, and reflect on your own journey. 2 ITINERARY DAY 1: Thurs., Oct. 6 - New York Area/En Route Depart from the New York Area for your overnight trans-atlantic flight to Warsaw, Poland. DAY 2: Fri., Oct. 7 - Warsaw (Dinner) AM: Welcome to Warsaw! You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. En route to the hotel enjoy a panoramic tour. PM: Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Warsaw to relax and catch up with your jet lag. Dinner: Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 3: Sat., Oct. 8 - Warsaw (Breakfast and Dinner) AM: Morning City Sightseeing Tour Start your tour with a visit to the Old Town, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. See King Sigismund s III Column, the first secular monument in Poland, St. John s Cathedral, a Gothic Church with a sarcophagus containing the remains of eminent Poles, the Old Town Market Square, and the Barbican. You will also see the former Jewish Ghetto, the Memorial to the Heroes of the Ghetto, the Umschplag Platz, and Mila Street. Continue along the Royal Route with its superb aristocratic residences and famous monuments, including the Holy Cross Church with its urn containing the heart of Fryderyk Chopin. Proceed to the gracious Royal Lazienki Park, which was the lavish summer residence of the last King of Poland, Stanislaw August Poniatowski. You will also see the former railway station, Warszawa Główna, which is the Railway Museum today. This was the first place touched by St. Faustina s feet in Warsaw. See the Convent in Zytnia Street where Helenka Kowalska came and spoke with the superior of the house, Mother Michael Moaczewska and she was initially admitted to the congregation. Continue to the 44 Hetmanska Street House in the Grochow district where in 1929 Sister Faustina was sent to the second house of the Congregation in Warsaw. Now the sisters run a social welfare home for women. Celebrate Mass at the St. James Church in Warsaw in the Divine Mercy Chapel, which was the first church that St. Faustina entered when she went to Warsaw. PM: Excursion to Niepokalanow Saint Maximilian Kolbe, founder of the Militia of the Immaculate, established this city in order to further concentrate the apostolic work within a large community. The friary of the Immaculate, a great complex of humble buildings, was the Church in miniature. Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 4: Sun., Oct. 9 - Warsaw/Swinice Warckie/Czestochowa (Breakfast and Dinner) AM: Visit Swinice Warckie After breakfast at the hotel you will depart Warsaw and travel to Swinice Warckie where you will visit St. Casimir, the parish church where St. Faustina was baptized. PM: Excursion to Czestochowa Continue to Czestochowa, the site of Poland s greatest pilgrimage shrine, Our Lady of Czestochowa. Visit the Jasna Gora Monastery, one of the most important places of religious worship in the Christian world, with a tradition of pilgrimage that goes back to the 14th century. The Holy Father John Paul II frequently visited Jasna Gora, known as the Shrine of the Black Madonna in honor of the beloved Icon. Dinner: Enjoy dinner at your hotel.

3 DAY 5: Mon., Oct Czestochowa/Auschwitz/Wadowice/Kalwaria Zebrzydowska/Krakow (Breakfast and Dinner) AM: Visit Auschwitz Your first stop today will be Auschwitz, the largest Nazi concentration camp during World War II. You will visit the Martyrdom Museum and see the cell that imprisoned St. Maximilian Kolbe. Excursion to Wadowice Your next stop is Wadowice, Karol Wojtyła s hometown. The house where he used to live has been turned into a tiny museum. The Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where the Pope was baptized, stands right on the market square. Visit the Shrine of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Proceed to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, an early Baroque sanctuary and quiet Paths of Calvary with churches and chapels scattered among the Beskidy Hills. Karol Wojtyła used to come here as a young boy and later as a priest, bishop, and finally as the Pope, to walk along the Way of the Cross. Continue to Krakow. Dinner: Enjoy dinner at your hotel. DAY 6: Tues., Oct Krakow (Breakfast and Dinner) Full Day Tour of Krakow Start your tour with a visit to the Royal Castle of Wawel. This was the former residence of the Piast, Jagiellonian, and Vasa dynasties. Admire the unique collection of tapestries once owned by King Sigismund August. Visit its Grand Audience Hall, which is known as the Hall of Heads. Your next stop is the Royal Cathedral, one of the finest churches in Poland and an astonishing example of medieval architecture, and Sigismund s Chapel, which is also known as the Pearl of the Renaissance. The Market Square is one of the largest squares in Europe. St. Florian s Gate is one of the oldest gates in Krakow. You will also visit Kazimierz, the old Jewish District, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List. See the Old Synagogue that dates back to the 15th century, the oldest in Poland. The highlight of your tour will be the sites connected to the Pope s life in Krakow, including the Debniki basement room at 10 Tyniecka Street where he lived as a student, the Zakrzowek quarry where he worked during the Nazi occupation, the Debniki Parish Church of St. Stanislaw Kostka s, and the 12th century Crypt of St. Leonard s where the Pope had his first and second holy Masses. See St. Florian s Church, which was the first church in Krakow where Pope John Paul II was a curate and St. Mary s Church that contains a memorial plaque commemorating the White March that took place in You will also see the Collegium Novum of the Jagiellonian University where he lectured in theology after World War II. Visit Kanonicza Street where Father Wojtyla resided at Number 19 and the adjacent Number 21 until 1963, when he became the Krakow Archbishop. A stroll down the most charming Kanonicza Street and then through the Planty gardens will bring you to the gate of the stately Archbishop s Palace where His Eminence Cardinal Karol Wojtyla lived from 1963 to Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

4 DAY 7: Wed., Oct Krakow/Lagiewniki/Niegowic/Ludzmierz/Zakopane (Breakfast and Dinner) AM: Visit the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki This morning you will visit the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki where Saint Faustina Kowalska lived and died. A dynamic expansion of worship of the Divine Mercy was launched by the beatification of Sister Faustina on April 18, 1993, and her canonization on April 30, 2000, and also thanks to the pilgrimages of Pope John Paul II to Lagiewniki in 1997 and It is here The next place connected with the great Pope is Niegowic. that the young curate was sent to complete his first ministry at the local parish. Continue to Podhale, the highlands at the foot of the Tatras. The Sanctuary of Our Lady the Queen of Podhale in Ludzmierz was often visited by Wojtyła on pilgrimages. Continue to Zakopane where the great Pope is commemorated in many places. One is the Sanctuary of the Holy Virgin of Fatima at Krzeptówki, where the Pope held a Holy Mass. A monument to him commemorates the event. Dinner: Enjoy dinner at your hotel in Zakopane. DAY 8: Thurs., Oct Zakopane/Prague (Breakfast and Dinner) Excursion to Olomouc Depart Zakopane after breakfast and travel to Prague. En route you will stop in the town of Olomouc where you will enjoy a panoramic tour. The ancient town of Olomouc lies in the heart of the Haná region. Its history dates back to the 10th century AD when it became an important trade crossing-point. It has the second most significant collection of historical monuments in the country after Prague. Continue to Prague. Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 9: Fri., Oct Prague (Breakfast and Dinner) AM: City Tour of Prague Your tour starts in the New Town where you will see the most vibrant area of the city, Wenczelas Square and its dominating buildings such as the National Museum and St. Wenczelas Statue. Then travel to the river and see the golden roofed National Theater and the city s historic bridge, the Charles Bridge. Crossing the river you will arrive at the Prague Castle area where you will visit the 1000-year-old Hradcany Castle courtyard and St. Vitus Cathedral. Enjoy a walk around the Castle district. You will see the Loretto Church and St. George Basilica. Leaving the Castle district you will pass by the Strahov Monastery. Your tour ends at the Old Town Square where you will see the Astronomical Clock, the beautiful Baroque St. Nicholas Church, the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, the Rococo Kinsky Palace, the Stone Bell House, and the Municipal House. Celebrate Mass in the Infant Jesus of Prague Church. PM: Enjoy the afternoon at leisure for some last minute shopping or to explore this beautiful city on your own. Dinner: Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. DAY 10: Sat., Oct Prague/New York Area (Breakfast) AM: This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight home. Any cancellation, itinerary change or failure to use confirmed air space may be subject to penalties levied by the airlines at the time of ticketing. Air tickets, once issued, are non-refundable. AIRLINE CLAUSE: Any airlines concerned are not to be held responsible for any act, omission, or event during the time passengers are not aboard their aircraft. The airline tickets when issued shall constitute the sole contract between airline and the purchaser of these tickets/and or passenger. PASSPORT/VISA REQUIREMENTS: A valid passport is required for all tour members. U.S. citizens do not require visas for travel to Poland and the Czech Republic. If you are not a U.S. citizen call the Consulate of EVERY country you will enter (even in-transit when changing planes) to check on visa requirements. ALL passports must be valid for at least 6 months after the return date of the tour. Airline carriers reserve the right to change equipment and schedules without prior notice or passenger approval. We must agree to this upon acceptance of group contracts. We have the option of cancelling the contract without penalty, however, we would need to protect the group on alternate flights. This is not always possible as changes can occur up to the day of departure. TOUR PRICE: Tour price is based upon current tariff and exchange rates and is subject to change. It is based upon a minimum of 20 fully paid passengers. In the event this minimum is not met a surcharge will be levied.
