3 the CHILDHOOD years From the moment they are born, children observe and learn, soaking in everything around them. Providing a safe, happy, Christian learning environment for every child is the purpose of the Childhood Ministry, which includes children birth through sixth grade. In the summer, PCBC provides numerous camps for children from all across the community. The camps include the popular DaySprings Day Camp at Bill Bates Ranch in McKinney, Texas, and sports camps such as basketball, flag football, soccer and tennis. In addition, there are art, cooking and dance camps which all reinforce the growth of the whole child. A place where both parent and child can come, the PCBC Library provides a place for mental growth through books, videos and dvds. The Library hosts several events throughout the year such as a Spring Book/Author Event, Summer Reading Club for Children, Autumn Library Awareness and a Winter Holiday Open House. The goal of Mother s Day Out (MDO) is to provide a safe, happy, Christian learning environment for preschool age children when they are at our church. MDO teaches eight general concepts: God, Jesus, the natural eorld, Bible, self, others, family and church. Mother s Day Out is open to children birth 2 years. Mother s of Preschoolers, MOPS, is open to mother of preschool age children. It is an open, caring, and accepting atmosphere where women can come together to share this important season of life. For more information, go to our website at or call the Childhood Office at Our church will continue to love and support its children with Biblebased teaching. Meeting the needs of the child and his/her family is our focus because the children are the future of the this church. Our programs enable children to explore, discover, create and construct by involving their senses in an array of ageappropriate opportunities. Teaching from a biblically-based curriculum, we strive to develop in each child positive attitudes toward God, Jesus, the Bible, self, others, the natural world, family and church. The goal is to establish a foundation for faith upon which all of life can be built. Sunday School is the primary ongoing program for children s Bible teaching. Each week, committed Christian adults teach biblical principles and their application through the active learning vehicles of Bible Study and group times. Mission education is another important weekly program for our children. Through Royal Ambassadors, Girls in Action and Mission Friends, boys and girls learn how God s love is shared around the world and how they can share His love at home. Children s Choirs are a place where children can learn more about music and sing of God s love. Children are given opportunities to develop through listening, singing, moving, playing instruments, and learning songs and hymns each week in choir. Throughout the year, there are many other programs for children to help promote spiritual, mental and physical growth. Marty Lewis, Minister to Children At Park Cities, we believe in children! Our mission is to grow children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We are excited when children come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We partner with parents and caring adults to surround children with God s love in a fun and stimulating environment. Preschoolers and children are taught God s Word in an age-appropriate manner. This means that children will learn at their own age and developmental level with other children their own age. Classes for children involve a mix of fun activities for all ages. Activities in the classroom are designed to point to the Bible Story being taught that day! Everything a child does in Sunday School reinforces a Bible truth for that day. Our teachers, leaders and workers provide hours of volunteer ministry to lead children to Jesus. Our children s teachers are the very best because they truly care about teaching children. Sunday School is offered at the 9:20 and 10:50 hours. Kindergartners enjoy Worship Explorers at either hour. Worship Explorers teaches the joy of worship to the child. Kindergartners participate in worship experiences that are fun, meaningful and friendly. Children in grades one through six enjoy Sunday School one hour and attend worship with their family the other hour. Wednesday nights are filled with fun and learning. Children s Choir begins at 5:30 p.m. Children from age 2 through 6th grade learn music and worship in fun ways that lead to worship and praise. At 6:30 p.m., children grow in Missions through Mission Friends (for preschoolers), Royal Ambassadors (for boys), and Girls in Aaction (for girls). Learning about missionaries and performing mission action allows children to serve others in the name of Jesus. Do not let your children miss choir or missions on Wednesday evenings. 4 For new Christians, we offer the Welcome To God s Family class. This is offered monthly to children who make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. The course teaches children about service, prayer, quiet times, baptism and the Lord s Supper. We have many seasonal events which include Trunk or Treat, Vacation Bible School, Fish Camp, Spring Children s Retreat and Advent Art Contest. In the future look for A Mission for Every Child, a missions and fun event for grade school children held in the Spring. As we move into PreTeen Ministry, look for a Fall Retreat just for 6th graders next year. Also, in the next year, the world comes to Park Cities as we learn about missions and service opportunities all around us from down the street to around the world. Watch for an Acts 1:8 ministry for children and their teachers in our area. You can feel the excitement in Children s Ministry! Whether you look into Weekday Preschool or Mother s Day Out, Sunday School, Wednesdays or events offered all during the year, there is a place for your child and you. Explore the possibilities in Children s Ministry at Park Cities. Call for more details. 5

4 THE TEENAGE YEARS The teenage years are full of intense change and a wide range of emotions. The PCBC Youth Ministry exists to reach students for Christ, help them connect with each other, grow in their faith, honor Christ, and serve others Helping Students Follow Jesus. On Sunday and Wednesday there are weekly opportunities for students to be involved with a Bible Study and other activities. On Sundays, the junior high students, comprised of over 100, 7th and 8th graders, combine in The Pit down in the Activities Basement for fun, games, videos, and small group Bible Study from 10:50 a.m. Noon. It s a place where you can truly have a blast as you grow in your faith! Also on Sundays, about 200 high school students and leaders meet on the 3rd floor of the Community Life Center in The Loft for an opening time, and then meet in small groups for Bible Study and fellowship from 10:50 a.m. Noon. Join 7th through 12th grade students for Youth Choir and a fun time of singing, worshipping, and becoming leaders of worship as they prepare to sing in services, participate in mission work at home and around the country. Youth Choir meets on the 3rd floor of the Community Life Center in The Loft at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays. There s something special for students on Wednesdays, too! For a mid-week break from the rigors of school and extra curricular activities, students also meet on Wednesday nights for both Extreme and Cross Walk. Extreme is for Junior High students (7th 8th) and meets in The Pit in the Activities Building Basement from 7:15 8:30 p.m. Extreme is a time of fun, video, skits, games, music, Bible teaching, and giveaways! Join over 100 high school students (9th 12th) for worship with a full band, where critical issues are tackled from a biblical perspective during Cross Walk in The Loft on the 3rd Floor of the Community Life Center from 7:15 8:30 p.m. Throughout it all, the Student Ministry is here to serve students and their families. Checkout the website at for upcoming events, some great links to what your students are hearing and learning, fabulous resources for students and parents, prayer requests and more! Nate Merrill, Minister to Students PCBC s Student Ministry is based upon relationships. That begins with our relationship with God. Our first priority is to challenge every student to continually be growing in his or her relationship with God. We structure all of our programs around that priority, whether that is Sunday Morning Bible Study, Wednesday nights, Discipleship, Retreats, or Lock-ins! Secondly, we want PCBC to be a place where our students can build relationships with other students and to be encouraged and equipped by our adult leadership team. Our personal relationship with God should be fun and exciting. It is important to me that, whether a student is having the best day or the worst day, we are able to walk along side of that student, always leading him or her closer to Christ. Our commitment is to teach God s Word and live and love by Christ s example. My daily prayer for PCBC s Student Ministry is this prayer of Christ: That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. John 17:21 23 In addition to our regular Sunday and Wednesday activities, we have Refuge (creative Student Worship Service) the first Wednesday of each month (remaining 2008 dates: November 5, December 3), D-Now is January 30 February 1, 2009, and Thee Camp is June 29 July 3, Be on the lookout as we approach the spring for a small group discipleship component to our student ministry on Sunday evenings. Please let us know if there is anything that we can ever do for you or your student. We are here to serve you! To contact the Student Ministry, please call

This includes evacuees in metroplex shelters, our brothers and sisters in South Texas and our sister churches in Cuba. In response to that call, there are several ways you may help: Park Cities Baptist Church Disaster Relief Offering: Contributions given through our church will be used to fund the following needs: - North Texas Food Bank: Meals for evacuees in local shelters. - Recovery efforts in South Texas colonias: Food and construction materials for damaged homes. - Recovery efforts in the Galveston Area: Feeding and emergency assistance through the Texas Baptist Men, clean out and repair at FBC Galveston and financial assistance for displaced pastors and church staffs. Many local churches in the area will not be operational for weeks to come and have lost the ability to pay their pastors and staff. - Relief efforts in Cuba: Food, clothing, medicines and reconstruction of damaged or destroyed homes. The US State Department announced this week that they will be suspending the ban on direct aid to Cuba through December 5, 2008 in response to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. PCBC, through our ministry partner East West Ministries, has been given permission to send significant aid to the island of Cuba. This is an unprecedented opportunity for our church. During the coming weeks as we understand more opportunities for ministry service available to our church family, we will report these opportunities and recommendations for financial assistance and service. Contributions should be designated for disaster relief.
