2 HUMAN CARE TEAM Jacquie Kyle, Chair Human Care is a ministry partnering with 7 Christian-based organizations 5 locally based and 2 world-wide (LCMS World Relief/Human Care, and Lutheran Bible Translators) - to help change people's lives through budgeted financial support, and participation of our congregation and school members in a "Mission of the Month" and other volunteer activities for these Christian organizations. FLCS men, women, and Youth are needed to volunteer to help Human Care Team to organize and complete activities with our Local Missions, as listed below: Akron Pregnancy Services Need prayer support; counseling and teaching volunteers; church liaison; events participation, such as the May Walk for Life/Tribute to Mothers," and the APS Giving Tree at Christmas. Contact Jacquie Kyle or Lee Gsellman Haven of Rest/Harvest Home Become a Prayer Partner; volunteer for special projects; donate and/or deliver food (bimonthly), clothing (Jan.), personal care items (June) and toys, games (for Dec. Happy Birthday Jesus Party and program). Contact Grace Goettler, Ambassador to Haven of Rest. OPEN M (Opportunity for People Everywhere in Need Ministry). Volunteer to help cook and serve 5 free hot lunches/year at OPEN M and/or furnish cookies; donate/deliver food bi-monthly; volunteer in Food Pantry; Serve on an event committee such as Walk for Kids, Christmas for the Love of Children; mentor boys and girls; volunteer as week-day receptionist; volunteer in the Free Health Clinic. Volunteer in many different areas: Resident activities, church services, clerical/office; crafts; Outings, music, pet visits; reading to residents, and other opportunities. LWML Carol Vanderveen & Kate Johnson The Lutheran Women s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions. FLCS LWML willingly answers requests for non-perishable foods, personal items, volunteers to prepare meals, works with Open M, Haven of Rest, Braille #191, knit prayer shawls for sick and shut-ins, hats and scarves for school children in need, as well as sewing lap robes. LWML helped support Most Ministries by providing cloth eye glass holders in Peru, collecting eye glasses, befriending a Missionary in Africa, sent funds to Joplin, Mo. to aid tornado victims, and continually collect MITES for Local, District and International projects. Braille-Tom and Barbara Cadotte Braille Ministry produces Braille books of the Bible and ships them around the world. Our 70 some volunteers, made up of nine different teams produce approximately 300 books a month. We are always looking for new volunteers. We presently have nine teams. We need to add people to existing teams as well as start new teams. We would like to start new teams which need 4-6 people to get started. They could meet at any of these times. Monday evening ( 6:30-8:30) team could use two additional people. Tuesday evening 2-3 hrs Wednesday evening 2-3 hrs Thursday afternoon 2-3 hrs Friday morning 2-3 hrs Friday afternoon 2-3 hrs Friday evening 2-3 hrs Saturday morning 2-3 hrs Grief Care Follow-Up Judye Matson and Jenn Dougall This group provides follow-up bereavement support to congregational members who have experienced a loss. Help needed includes: -follow-up/check-in phone calls, -monthly letter/notecard writing

3 Altar Guild- MaryDee Raabe Our mission and purpose is to assist in the care and maintenance of the Altar and Chancel and to prepare Communion for each service as needed. We care for all the permanents and linens, assure we have supplies needed for Communion, and arrange for flowers for the Altar on Sundays and special holidays of Christmas and Easter. Altar Duty is on a voluntary basis for a month period and usually with a partner. If you find you cannot be there on a particular Saturday or Sunday, other members can be contacted to "trade" a weekend. We've never had a problem getting someone to help out. We have a super group of members. Currently all our members are women, but many husbands help out also and although they are not official, they could probably take care of setting up by themselves - they are wonderful. We would welcome male members if they would like to serve in this way. We definitely train new members and pair them with an "experienced" member who can guide them and help them learn the procedures. We have a good manual with instructions and diagrams to remind us exactly what to do and where things go. The two members on Altar duty arrive at an agreed upon time, usually Saturday morning, and: * Assure the Chancel area is clean * Assure the proper Parament is on the Altar * Prepare Communion for Sunday services * Put delivered flowers on the flower stand * Keep the Sacristy area (the room behind the Chancel area) clean, neat and organized * Review inventories On Sunday between and after services, we reset the Altar for Communion for the next service and clean-up after the last service. Facilities Ministry John Hoffman Team helps to ensure that members and guests at FLCS can worship in an environment free of disruption and hazards. We welcome volunteers with law, construction, contract negotiation, electrical, carpentry, and many other back grounds to join one of our Facilities teams. Church Sign Updated- Richard Kotick We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to change the Church Signs on West Market and Smith Road. These signs are changed weekly and are an important form of publicity and communication to our community. Evangelism Team-Cam Frasier Evangelism team provides opportunities for members to share the Love of Jesus Christ through special community events, adult mission trips, programs, and their words and actions. Ushers-Tom Strachan Ushers are the hosts for the worship service. They can be older children, teens or adults. What do Ushers do? 1. Prepare the sanctuary for the service: be sure everything necessary for the offering and communion are in their appropriate places. Talk with the Pastor to see if there is anything special occurring during the service that requires an usher s assistance. 2. Pass out worship bulletins. 3. Identify visitors; welcome visitors and current members alike. 4. Count the numbers of attendees at the service. 4. Assist in the offering collection and communion (depending on the worship service). 5. Collect the pew registration after the service ends and put together with the attendance form, remove the offering from the Altar. 6. Remove any debris in the pews to prepare the sanctuary for the next worship service. 7. Assist the Greeters and Welcome Center Staff if needed and time permits. Greeters-Marilyn Horsey Greeters are outgoing, friendly church members of any age who warmly greet everyone at the front door as they enter the church. What do Greeters do? 1. Greet everyone. 2. Identify visitors and remember their name (s). Quickly determine what assistance a visitor may need and involve other Members of the Greeter Ministry Team as necessary.

4 3. Assist the staff at the Welcome Center if needed and time allows. Welcome Center Staff-Jill Chipps WCS are outgoing, teenage or adult members of the congregation who provide information at the Welcome Center What do WCS do? 1. Give visitors directions to whatever part of the church they need to reach. 2. Answer questions visitors may have about church worship service times, programs, up-coming events. Give them a Welcome Packet containing information about the church. 3. Encourage visitors to participate in the coffee hour before or after their worship service. 4. Introduce visitors to members of FLC you know of similar age or interest. 5. Answer our member s questions about church programs and up-coming events. 6. Assist the Greeters at the front door if needed and time permits. Cradle Roll Ministry Bev Fischer Cradle Roll is a birth to three years old faith formation resource. The packets come for three different age groups: 1-12 months of age months of age months of age Each packet called (Splash!) comes with 12 monthly newsletters for parents and a Sleepy Time Tunes music CD which is age appropriate. Who receives a Splash! Pack? An infant in our church whether they are baptized or not, or in our community, or for grandchildren of church members who do not attend our church. Why send Splash! Packs? To help young children grow in faith form an early age. Connect churches to families for support and encouragement. Provide fun and easy ideas for bringing faith into everyday life of infants and their families. Greeting cards are also sent to welcome a newborn baby, for a baptism, and for birthdays through 3 yrs of age. Project Connect Ministry Bev Fischer Project Connect is a booklet ministry program of Lutheran Hour Ministries that provides our congregation an additional means of guidance and support to visitors, members, or others in our community. They are always available for pickup next to our Welcome center. Project Connect addresses a wide variety of topics, offering booklets that connect God's Word to real-life issues. Project Connect is effective, affordable, easy to get started in our congregation, and simple to maintain. In fact, it's one ministry outreach that can sustain itself. There are over 50 topical booklets available for resources, which get changed in our carousel as needed. Finance Team- Earl Evans, Chairman Volunteers to help us achieve our vision: FLCS is a Ministry-Driven Church where finances are not a constraint; where the Finance Team functions in partnership with the other Teams to achieve their Visions; and where good stewardship guides the use of the congregation's resources. Activities in which help is needed: Monthly statement reconciliations Entering credit card charges into QuickBooks Liaison with other Teams Preparing the annual budget Counting weekly offerings Special projects, such as researching specific accounts Parish Arts Ministry Gary Pinter Members select musical events for the Parish Arts Series each year, coordinate all events, prepare the yearly brochure, publicize events and send out mailings. Members are also needed to usher, greet, take the offering, direct parking, handle lighting and sound, prepare refreshments, and clean-up

5 Chancel Choir Gary Pinter Members practice on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 for ninety minutes and sing at the 9:30 am Sunday Joyful Liturgical Worship Service. The Choir also sings at special services, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services (You are welcome to attend any rehearsal without notice or audition.) Brown Baggers- Ann Congeni & Kathryn Pinter Volunteers meet the 4th Wednesday of the month for approximately one hour to pack lunches consisting of sandwiches, fruit and desserts in brown bags. The lunches are delivered to St. Bernard's Hunger Center downtown for distribution the next day to the homeless. School Ministry- Arin Sloan We provide quality Christian Education for children of our congregation & surrounding communities. We teach the fundamentals of Christian faith. We believe the most effective influence in a child's life can be realized when the church, home & school work together. We consider Fairlawn Lutheran School Ministry to be an extension of the home and partners with the parents. Connections Ministry-Tim Koehler This is a new ministry name with an old ministry plan. As this team gets up and running, our intent is to offer new member classes during the year. Additionally, we hope to offer specific fellowship opportunities for the whole congregation in order to connect the new members with our faith family and to introduce them to all the ministries at FLCS. Prayer Ministry Karen Cole & Jessica Congeni A group of individuals engage in intercessory prayer on a daily basis for the special requests of those in need. Prayer Warriors--individuals who meet once a week to pray with people on specific immediate needs. Homebound Visitation Mary Yoder A group of individuals who have a desire to visit the homebound members of FLCS. This once a month visit provides companionship and reinforces the person s connection to the church as a faith community. Prayer Shawl Ministry-Donna Hessel A group of individuals who knit or crochet shawls that are given to those who are experiencing times of extreme stress, grieving, and during an illness and recovery. This ministry also makes baby blankets for families having an infant baptized. Home Maintenance Cameron Fraser Volunteers offer assistance to those members who need help with minor household repairs, and yard work. Bereavement Support Barbera Beck, Judy Corbett This Ministry hosts a luncheon reception after a funeral service. Individuals can provide a food dish; help with set-up; help in clean-up; or house sit during calling hours and the church service. Compassion, fellowship, and meals are provided to our church families experiencing illness, recovery, bereavement, or a new baby. Prepare food Deliver food Pew Workers Jan Seymour A group of individuals once a week walks the pews checking and replacing the supplies, straightening the Bibles, and removing any leftover trash and bulletins. These tasks help keep our Sunday morning worship service running smoothly. Discipleship Ministry Heidi and Tim Koehler, Rob Krenz Chair Discipleship is working to Change lives, Transform the Community we live in, and Renew the faith family of God. Areas we are working to accomplish this vision are Adult education, VBS, Collision (student ministry), Let s Rock (children s ministry),special events, Small Groups, Family life, Women s and Men s ministry
