Or, to put it another way, summertime provides us with more time to make time for family. Ever since Memorial Day, I have been enjoying asking and listening to families tell about their vacations servers and liturgical ministers in the sacristy before Mass, parishioners in front of church after Mass, staff members in the office. Special times and places spent together, whether two-week excursions across the country or a weekend closer to home or few hours at a family reunion. I myself have treasured getting together with my own family on Memorial Day and Independence Day, as well as a road-trip with my brother and nephew to see the Yankees and Mets and Red Sox play in their home stadiums, and to spend some time with my brother and his family who live in Connecticut. No family drops down from heaven perfectly formed, Pope Francis often points out in his recent exhortation The Joy of Love. May you and your family find food for your journey together in his closing remarks Fr. Rick Walling Families need constantly to grow and mature in their ability to love. This is a never-ending vocation born of the full communion of the Trinity, the profound unity between Christ and his church, the loving community that is the Holy Family of Nazareth and the pure fraternity existing among the saint ins heaven. All of us are called to keep striving toward something greater than ourselves and our families, and every family must feel this constant impulse. Let us make this journey as families, let us keep walking together. What we have been promised is greater than we can imagine. May we never lose heart because of our limitations or ever stop seeking that fullness of love and com-munion that God holds out before us. BACK TO SCHOOL BLESSINGS!! Dear Heavenly Father, For all the children returning to school, send your Holy Spirit as their guide and protector. Keep them free from danger and unnecessary harm. Put your sons and daughters in the right place, at the right time, to receive your grace. Let them learn and grow strong. May the presence of your Holy Spirit fill their hearts. Help us to mature as parents and caregivers. Bless every family, oh Lord. We entrust our children to you, dear God. Since from the beginning, they are yours to keep. 2 New Parochial Vicar at Ft. Recovery By: Becky Kunkler On July 1, 2016, Ft Recovery welcomed Rev. Matthew Feist as their Parochial Vicar. Rev. Feist, 33, was raised in Withamsville, Ohio. His home parish is Immaculate Heart of Mary, Anderson Twp. And St. Thomas More. His parents, Steve and Debbie Feist, have been married 36 years. He is the oldest of 4 children; having 2 sisters and 1 brother. He graduated from Glen Este High School in 200 and from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2005, majoring in computer information science. Growing up, he always felt God calling him to do something for his church. He just was not sure what. By his college graduation, he felt called to minister to the youth. He volunteered with several youth groups the first year out of college. Then he moved to Arkansas-Subiaco Academy-to be a resident director and teacher of computers and religion at an all boy boarding high school. After that year, he was hired as the youth minister at IHM. During these two years, he felt an overwhelming call to become a priest. The call was always there, he just didn t know what to do Rev. Matthew Feist with it until intentionally praying about his vocation. He then entered Mount St. Mary s Seminary of the West, Cincinnati, in the fall of While attending the Seminary, he interned at the Coldwater Cluster from September of 2013 until the summer of Father enjoys cooking, travel, and anything that deals with sports. Fr. Feist was ordained at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati on Saturday, May 21, WELCOME REV. MATTHEW FEIST!!! Let no one ever come to you without leaving better & happier. 4 The Shrine has been busy sprucing up the building and grounds for upcoming special celebrations. The landscaping has been maintained and provided by a new volunteer group led by Tina Thobe. Thanks to all who volunteer to make the property look so breathtaking. Also, painting of the exterior trim was completed at the end of July by May Painting of Celina, OH. This effort was made possible by a bequest of the Tasiemski Trust, designated for maintenance and upkeep of the Shrine and Convent. On September 25 from 1 pm 4 pm the Shrine will host an on-site Heritage Day festival. Join us in our celebration of 170 years of the presence of the Sisters at the Shrine. This event is open to the general public. We will have games, a petting zoo, quilt show, old time tractor display, bingo, pie baking contest, food and more for all ages. If you wish to enter a pie in the contest, please call Amy at Our next St. Peregrine Cancer Prayer Service will be Sunday, October 16 at 2 pm. The event will conclude with a drawing of $1000 for the weekly Heritage Club winner. Tickets will be sold that day, as well as in advance by stopping by or calling the Shrine, Tickets purchased remain eligible in our $50 weekly drawing for the next 51 weeks. Additionally, Nunsense a musical by Dan Goggin, will be live at Overdrive Sunday, November 6 at 5 pm. Plan to join in for an evening of entertainment. Cost is $25 per person for dinner and the show. 5 Did You Know? By: Becky Kunkler If you find yourself wondering what the Deanery Center does exactly, here is your answer! I like to think of the center as the central networking station for the parishes of the deanery. We host several events that allow those in ministries to collaborate resources with one another, ask questions and gain incite from the experienced. Church ministry is no small feat. When we have others to bounce ideas off of and receive guidance, the road we walk is not so lonely! The pastors and deacons of the deanery convene for a meeting five times a year to discuss parochial matters. Representatives from area groups join the latter portion of the meeting to provide information and updates on events. Among these groups include Catholic Social Services, Hispanic Ministry, Social Action/Rural Life, Family and Respect Life, Youth Ministry, The Shrine, The Spiritual Center and the Office of Evangelization & Catechesis. Religious Education Coordinators meet three times a year to exchange ideas for their religious programs over a carry-in brunch. The Deanery Board, consisting of representatives from each parish/cluster, the Dean, Director and Archdiocesan representative, meet three times a year to provide updates on parish activity. An appreciation lunch for the secretaries of the deanery is held annually as well as an in-service for catechists. The Deanery Center has much more to offer in addition to these gatherings. When you re tempted to focus on another's faults, ask God to help you see everyone as he does with love. God is always patient, patient with us...he never tires of forgiving us if we know to turn to Him with a contrite heart.
