Entering God s Presence Prelude Rhosymedre Ralph Vaughan Williams Chimes Matthew Daley, guest organist Call to Worship Dr. Quinn Fox One Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Isaiah 9:6 All Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! One Lo, your king comes to you; All Triumphant and victorious is he; humble and riding on a donkey. p Hymn Hosanna, Loud Hosanna Ellacombe Chancel Choir and children in palm procession: Hosanna to the King of Kings! Hosanna, let the praises ring! Hosanna to the King of Kings! Hosanna, let them ring! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna! Hosanna to the King of Kings! Hosanna to the King! Congregation waving palms and singing as directed: Hosanna, loud hosanna the little children sang. Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to his breast, The children sang their praises, the simplest and the best. From Olivet they followed, mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state, Nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait. Hosanna in the highest! That ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven, our King. O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, And in his blissful presence eternally rejoice! p Prayer of Adoration and Confession Almighty God, your Son our Savior entered Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed Messiah and king. Many spread garments and branches along his way, but did not know that way would lead to Calvary. As we also raise branches of palms and voices singing, Hosanna, help us remember that the One who came in the name of the Lord, came for our redemption and restoration. Forgive our sins and cleanse us. Show us ever more clearly our life in Christ Jesus, as we follow him all the way to the cross. Silent Confession and Choral Meditation Ride on, ride on in majesty! The winged squadrons of the sky Look down with sad and wondering eyes to see the approaching sacrifice. Assurance of Pardon Believe the good news of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. The King s Majesty 3
4 p Congregational Response Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates, behold, the King of glory waits; The King of kings is drawing near; the Savior of the world is here. Hearing God s Word A Time for Children of All Ages Truro Dr. David Renwick Responsive Reading Third Grade Milestone in Worship Education from 2 Timothy 3, Hebrews 4, Psalms 119, 19, and 9 and Isaiah 40 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work. Indeed the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I find delight in your commandments, because I love them. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold. Sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever! 9:15 a.m. Children in K-5th grade meet their Sunday School leaders in the Court of Flags to join their peers in Sunday School in the school building. Presentation of Bibles to Third Graders 11 a.m. Third Grade Milestone in Worship Education 11 a.m. Children in K-2nd grade meet their Sunday School leaders in the Court of Flags to go to the children s church program in Church Room 106, returning after the sermon. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. 4
