1 Third Sunday After Easter April 30, 2017 Redeemer Lutheran Church (LCMS) 200 South Main Street Catawba, NC Church Office: (828) The Rev. Gregory Alms, astor Website: Welcome to Redeemer Lutheran Church! Welcome to all and we extend a special welcome to our guests. lease sign a Guest Card available in the pew in front of you. Introduce yourself to the astor, and please, come and worship with us again. Worship is a time when our Lord speaks and gives and we listen and receive his gifts of mercy, presence and forgiveness. We respond in prayer, praise and thanksgiving. Enter, please, in silence for prayer and meditation. lease keep a time before worship begins for silence and prayer and meditation. this prayer to prepare for worship: You may use Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your glory dwells. In the multitude of Your tender mercies prepare my heart that I may enter Your house to worship and confess Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, my God and Lord. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1: 8-9) Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination. Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. (John 20: 19-23) Service of the Word Kyrie (Lord, Have Mercy) (Mark 10: 47) Here is prayer for use before taking Holy Communion: Lord, I am not worthy to be a guest at your holy table. But you are the friend of sinners, and you will not cast me out. This bread is your body, which bore my sins upon the tree. This wine is your blood, which purifies me from all guilt. At your invitation, I come rejoicing. Receive me, my Savior. Amen. RELUDE rocessional Hymn: Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia, #466 The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. In the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28: 19b) 1 2

2 This is the Feast (Revelation 4:8-11; 5; 6:12-14; 7:10-12) 3 Let us pray. O God, through the humiliation of Your Son You raised up the fallen world. Grant to Your faithful people, rescued from the peril of everlasting death, perpetual gladness and eternal joys; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end Timothy 4:22 Colossians 3:22

4 salm 136 It is truly good, right, and salutary... evermore praising You and saying: Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy) Isaiah 6:3, Matthew 21:9 The Words of Our Lord (Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14: 22-24, Luke 22: 19-20, 1 Corinthians 11: 23-25) Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My (+) body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My (+) blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. roclamation of Christ 1 Corinthians 11:26 As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20 O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Lord's rayer (Spoken by all) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 rayer of Thanksgiving Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 7 ax Domini (eace of the Lord) (John 20: 19) The peace of the Lord be with you always. Get Ready for Next Sunday FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER May 7, 2017 Acts 2:42 47 ~ 1 eter 2:19 25 ~ John 10:1 10 The Crucified and Risen Lord Jesus Christ Is Our Good Shepherd Although we were straying like sheep, the Lord Jesus Christ has willingly suffered and died for us, bearing our sins in his body on the tree (1 eter 2:24 25). We are healed by His wounds (1 eter 2:24), and in His resurrection He gathers us to Himself as our Good Shepherd, by whose righteousness we have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Now through other shepherds whom He calls and sends in His name, He guards and keeps us in the green pastures of His Church, leading us beside the quiet waters of our Baptism and spreading the feast of His table before us. Since He has called us by the Gospel to be His own dear sheep, we also hear his voice and know his voice (John 10:3 4) in the faithful preaching of His Gospel, and we follow Him by faith. When we receive His Gospel, we have the abundant life and common unity of the entire flock under one Good Shepherd, in the apostles teaching and the fellowship and in the breaking of bread and the prayers (Acts 2:42). 12

7 YOU CAN READ THE BIBLE ON YOUR HONE BECAUSE OF LUTHER. W e love and treasure the Word of God. The Scriptures are our sole source for doctrine and practice. The Scriptures deliver Christ to us, and for this we rejoice. Luther desired that every person could have access to the Word of God. He translated the Bible into German so that every person could read it. A result of Luther s translation was the proliferation of Bible translations, and today, the multiplicity of media through which God s Word is freely available. The Word is to be read, taught and proclaimed. The Word informs us of God s love and instructs us in His will. Just as the Word made flesh came for the whole world, so God s written Word is given for all people. YOU CAN READ THE BIBLE ON YOUR HONE BECAUSE OF LUTHER. W e love and treasure the Word of God.
