3 Why do Philosophy? Philosophy encourages students to reflect on themselves and others in the world around them. It helps them with textual analysis, research and essay writing skills.

4 What is the course? AQA SPEC A Consists of two examination papers worth 50% each. Paper 1: Study of religion. Focusing on beliefs, teachings and practises. Islam Christianity Paper 2: Ethical and philosophical themes. Relationships and family War and conflict Revelation Early life Human rights and social justice Crime and punishment

5 What is the course? How it's assessed Each paper consists of a 1 hour 45 minutes written paper 96 marks (plus 5 marks for Spelling, punctuation and grammar) Questions The questions follow a common structure of 1, 2, 4, 5 and 12 mark question. Multiple choice Name two Influences Beliefs and Teachings Evaluation

They only need to be sing le words or short sentences. DO NOT expand. (2 marks) Question 3: Explain similarities/ differences (contrasting). Be sure to read the question carefully to under stand the instruction. Have to include 2 points and 2 explanations to gain full marks. (4 marks) Question 4: Explain two beliefs/teachings On this question you have to use a teaching to back up your point. You gain 1 mark for each poi nt and a further for your explanation. (5 marks) Question 5: Evaluate the statement. Read the question carefully, what are the key words? What key words could you include? Agree points Disagree points Have I referred to religion? Have I linked back to the question? Have I concluded? (12 marks + 5 SPAG)

7 Why these religions? Statistically the largest religion in the world. United kingdom deems Christian ity as it s main faith. Most students will have some kn owledge of Christianity Lots of different denominations to look at. Statistically the second largest religion in the world. There are many misconceptions regarding the religion, that we can learn about. The religion most likely to be in the news and therefore can ma ke our lessons current. Lots of different denomination s to look at.
