2 Welcome to Nottingham Whatever your background, denomination or preferred style of worship, we are confident that there will be a church in Nottingham where you will feel welcomed and at home, challenged and inspired, and will be encouraged to grow in your faith. Hopefully this guide will help you work out where to start looking. It s not a comprehensive list of churches in Nottingham but includes the ones most accessible to the university campuses where many students worship. If you d like some advice on which churches might be a good fit for you, or you don t find what you re looking for in here, please do talk to one of the Christian chaplains (based in Portland Building, University Park). 4 Catholic Churches The University of Nottingham Catholic Chaplaincy This is the home of Catholic students in the University. A vibrant, international community, we meet every Sunday in the Great Hall, Trent Building, University Park, for Mass at 11am. It is open every day for you to visit. Other Christian churches Around Lenton and Radford Cornerstone Church Castle Boulevard, Lenton An independent, evangelical church with around 650 worshippers every Sunday morning, and 150 in the evening. There is a strong Bible teaching ministry and an international outlook, with students being a valuable part of the church family. Don t be put off by the dark exterior it is bright inside with a huge heart of welcome. A great place to feel at home with God and His church, to get stuck in and grow in your faith. 5 Lenton Methodist Church Derby (opposite Savoy cinema) A congregation of varied ages, backgrounds and countries of origin. Worship is a blend of traditional and new. We have an emphasis on social justice and action, supporting people in thinking about their faith and, as a small congregation, welcoming each individual to share as we journey together. Our members appreciate an emphasis on Bible teaching, evangelism and being part of a church family where you can get involved quickly. Morning services are a mix of contemporary and traditional, whereas evening services are more informal and contemporary. 6 Around Beeston and Chilwell Beeston Baptist Church The Resource Centre, Middle Street, Beeston Beeston Baptists are a small (40+), open and inclusive church, seeking to share the Good News of Jesus in ways that connect with everyday lives. Our services are informal and varied, seeking to create an open, authentic, learning and praying community, focused on making whole-life disciples. As a church family, we want to glorify God through lives transformed by the gospel. We love welcoming students to our church and seeing them grow in their faith during their time in Nottingham. Beeston Parish Church, St John s Middle Street, Beeston St John s is a traditional Church of England parish church in the heart of Beeston. Our main Sunday service is a Parish Communion with choir at 10am. A broad age range worships here and we offer a warm welcome and a place for all. Sunday services: 10am, Parish Communion with choir. 7 City centre All Saints, St Mary s and St Peter s In these three city centre churches you will find traditional Anglican worship based on the Eucharist, but with varied evening services. St Mary s and St Peter s both have strong choirs, which sing at most main services. We want everyone to feel like they belong to a family and get the opportunity to truly discover their purpose. Students play a huge role in all we do and we d love you to visit on a Sunday. Our young adults ministry of about 200 people is called CTZN. We d love you to join the family!
