4 Introduction The first step in applying for credentials with the Assemblies of God is determining whether you have met the education requirements. This manual will help you: Determine whether you qualify Provide information to help you meet the requirements Levels of Credentials There are three levels of credential for which applicants can apply: Certified Entry-level application Licensed Entry-level application Ordained Upgrade application only Recognition of Ordination Applicants currently possessing an Ordination credential with another organized denomination can apply for Recognition of Ordination at the Entry Level. The only education requirement for this credential is the required course Assemblies of God History, Missions, and Governance. AG History, Missions, and Governance Every candidate applying for credentials, regardless of their background, must complete the course Assemblies of God History Missions, and Governance. This course is offered through the New York District School of Ministry and Global University (page 6). The only exception to this is if the applicant received a degree from an Assemblies of God affiliated Bible college located inside the United States. 2
5 Evaluating By Credit-Hours Bible College Education The Assemblies of God accepts education from any Bible college, as long as the following credit-hour requirements have been met: Credential Bible Credits Total Credits* AG History, Missions, & Governance Certified 48 Required for Non-AG schools Licensed and Non-US AG schools Ordained 96 Not required for AG schools *Total credits includes Bible credits If the Bible college is affiliated with the Assemblies of God and located in the United States, there are no further requirements other than the credit-hours listed. If the Bible college is not affiliated with the Assemblies of God, the only addition to these requirements is the completion of Assemblies of God History, Missions, and Governance. If the Bible college is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, but located outside of the United States, the candidate must complete Assemblies of God History, Missions, and Governance. The Secretary/Treasurer s office is available to perform an evaluation of any transcript which does not strictly adhere to the above criteria. 3
6 Assemblies of God Affiliated Colleges Below is a list of colleges that are (or have been) affiliated with the Assemblies of God: American Indian College (Phoenix, AZ) Caribbean Theological College (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) Central Bible College (Springfield, MO) Evangel University (Springfield, MO) Global University (Springfield, MO) Latin American Bible Institute (La Puente, CA; San Antonio, TX) Native American Bible College (Shannon, NC) North Central University (Minneapolis, MN) Northpoint Bible College (Haverhill, MA) Northwest University (Kirkland, WA) Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL) Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Waxahachie, TX) Spanish Eastern Bible Institute (Bronx, NY) Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, ND) University of Valley Forge (Phoenixville, PA) Vanguard University (Costa Mesa, CA) Western Bible College (Phoenix, AZ) Zion Bible College (Haverhill, MA) Non-Affiliated Bible Colleges Below is a (non-exhaustive) list of Bible colleges not affiliated with the Assemblies of God, for which the NY Ministry Network frequently sees transcripts: Alliance Theological Seminary Christ for the Nations Institute Elim Bible Institute Liberty University NYACK Oral Roberts University Regent University 4

10 Education Waivers In rare circumstances when an applicant has been in ministry for many years, the Network Secretary/Treasurer s office can provide a waiver of education based upon the applicant s life experience. In this case, a candidate would need to complete a separate application to receive a waiver of education requirements. The following waiver applications are available: Certified Ministry Internship Waiver Licensed Ministry Internship Waiver Ordained Ministry Internship Waiver Waiver for Certified Credential Course Track Includes a Quantitative Waiver & Certified Ministry Internship Waiver Waiver for Licensed Credential Course Track Includes a Quantitative Waiver & Licensed Ministry Internship Waiver Waiver for Ordination Credential Course Track Includes a Quantitative Waiver & Ordained Ministry Internship Waiver *No waiver is available for Assemblies of God History, Missions, and Governance To obtain the necessary forms, contact the Secretary/Treasurer s office. Once submitted, the forms must be reviewed by the Secretary/Treasurer for approval. This could take less than a week or several weeks depending upon the Secretary/Treasurer s agenda. Once his review is complete, the Secretary/Treasurer will contact you with his evaluation. All approved Internship Waivers will be forwarded to either NYDSOM or Global University for credit to be given on an applicant s transcript. Transcript with waived course listed must then be sent to Secretary/Treasurer s office to be included in credential file. 8
