Everyone is welcome, come when you can! McMannen is a Hot-Spot drop off location for the NC Diaper Bank. Their biggest needs are for size 4, 5 and 6 diapers but all sizes are gladly accepted. Pull Ups and Swimmy diapers are also in high demand. Drop them off in the box located outside of Jackie's office. One in three families face the daily crisis of diaper need. You can be part of the ongoing campaign to bridge this diaper gap today, tomorrow, and in the future. Together we can provide comfort and peace of mind one diaper at a time.

7 Columbarium information There are 24 niches per side for a total of 48 niches. Each niche can hold two people. Each niche sells for $1,000.This does not include engraving for which the family is responsible to pay. The engraving space only allows two names per niche. Only engraved names, no images or other ornate items may be placed on the face stone. Guidelines are available upon request. Selection criteria will be based on the order of each request. 9 Are you comfortable? Do you need anything? Those are words frequently heard in hospital rooms each and every day, spoken by countless nurses and family members to countless patients. Answers range from No, thank you to various forms of medicine to relieve pain, sips of water, or readjustment of pillows. There is care given even in the asking, and a comfort that even transcends the physical relief of symptoms, knowing that someone is looking after you, hoping that the discomfort won t last forever. This morning, in our Tuesday Bible study, we looked at Luke s account of Mary (Jesus mother) and her response to the angel s earth-shaking announcement that she would bear a Holy child in Luke 1. We tried to imagine what it would have been like for a young woman, probably just a girl, who was engaged (as would have been ordinary and perhaps even a relief to begin planning for a life of relative security) to a seemingly ordinary carpenter named Joseph, to hear such news. The author of the study, Jeanne Stevens, focused on God s plan for Mary to move from comfort to courage. The angel told her of a grand life that was about to be born from her womb. She replied, after some measure of pondering, let it be. We spent much of our discussion time focusing on those times in our lives when we have drawn on God-given courage, and when we have had to step into a new future with only faith. When such times arise, we are inevitably faced with the necessity of leaving someone, someplace, something, in order to move forward in the journey. Jeanne illustrated our hesitancy to leave by sharing about the way her three year old squeezes her neck with both arms when it s time to leave, hoping to lovingly manipulate her into staying for just a few moments more. We as love-filled, peace-seeking human beings metaphorically wrap our arms around the familiar when it is time to encounter the unknown. Mary, now recipient of this strange news, must have had many questions. Will they believe me? Will I be shunned by Joseph, or will he still go through with the marriage? How do you raise a Holy child? Are you allowed to send the Son of God to time-out if he disobeys? For the time being, all she knew was that she was willing to follow God, and that was enough. To be human is to be confronted with choices: how to prioritize limited resources, how to make a living, who to befriend, how much to share. Faith does not always make the choices easier. Christians can feel just as alone and in-the-dark as non-christians when we are faced with an uncertain future. But as Jesus followers, as children of God, we know that God has invited us to seek God s kingdom first, and to trust that God will be there, already waiting for us to arrive; as one of our Bible Study participants commented, if we are to arrive somewhere, it means that we have had to depart from somewhere else; to leave something behind a bad habit, a location we have outgrown, an annual event that no longer serves its purpose, an unhealthy relationship, a job that hasn t worked out or that we have long ago mastered. To do so, we may need to move from comfort to courage; which is only truly possible with Christ. God bless you.

11 Hi friends, We re ramping up to welcome hundreds of new international students and scholars to Duke over the next couple of weeks. One of the ways in which we do that is by offering a shopping trip to Target so that they can buy basic necessities before classes begin. The problem is that many do not have vehicles to get to Target or other stores nearby. This year we re offering the shopping trip on Saturday August 16 th, 9:30am 12:00pm (approximately). I learned today that 170 students have requested to join in this opportunity so you can see that the need is great for them. Would you help us by driving a group of international graduate students from Duke to the Target and back home again? Please click on the link to sign up: isishoppingassistance.
