5 Even in their moments of disobedience, it s important to remember that we are more like our kids than unlike them.

6 The temptation is to focus on external behavior only.

7 20 Children, obey your parents in everything for this pleases the Lord. Col. 3:20 (ESV)

8 Desire the heart of your child even more than the obedience of your child.

9 Lasting change and true character always travels the path of the heart.

10 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Eph. 6:4 (ESV)

11 Have a strong belief in your role as a parent.

12 Every night before I get my one hour of sleep, I have the same thought: Well, that s a wrap on another day of acting like I know what I m doing. I wish I were exaggerating, but I m not. Most of the time I feel entirely unqualified to be a parent. I call these times being awake. - Jim Gaffigan

13 Choose to be intentional with your children rather than leaving things up to chance.

14 3 Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him. 4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior s hands. Psalm 127:3 4 (NLT)

15 Help children embrace Jesus way of life and see that express itself in a love and concern for others.

16 If my kids can systematically lay out a belief system in God but they don t have hearts that worship God, I don t think we ve won as parents. Matt Chandler

17 2 Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Eph. 6:2 3 (ESV)

18 Honor to prize or to fix a value upon.

19 Bitterness and unforgiveness always moves from you holding on to it to it holding on to you.

20 Forgiveness is our determined and deliberate willingness to let something go and release it from our possession... to be willing and ready for it to no longer occupy us.

21 5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as peoplepleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with Him. 25 Don t mistake importance for significance. Importance speaks to the value we derive from things like position, status, and the esteem of others. It is about building our brand: dropping names, getting close to popular people, flaunting knowledge, looking busy, defining spiritual maturity by activity and achievement, exalting public gifts above the others. Significance speaks to the value we add to people and culture. It s about building others up: remembering their name, drawing near to the fringe, teaching others, being accessible, defining spiritual maturity by love for others, and by appreciating the contribution of everyone. - Kendal Haug & Will Walker
