As she delights in serving Bishop Johnson and our First Lady, there were many other facts we learned about Susan and the Armor Bearer Ministry! Susan: The mission of the Armor Bearer is to provide the highest level of service, both spiritually and physically, to the man and woman of God. Q: What is the purpose of the Armor Bearer Ministry? Susan: The purpose of the Armor Bearer Ministry is to faithfully serve the First Family of God in excellence with humility, loyalty and love. Q: What do you like most about your position? Susan: I don't take it lightly (smiling). It is an honor and a privilege to be allowed to handle God's precious cargo. Two things that Susan does that bring on many blessings is being obedient and tithing. Susan also is involved with other ministries such as Helping Hands, HCDC and Evangelism. Standing on the scripture 1Chronicles 10:5, Susan Green-Dantzler is definitely about her Father's business! Family Fun Day at the Beach On August 26, 2017, the COPIM family beat the heat at this year s Annual Family Fun Day hosted at the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. The children enjoyed playing in the water and making sand castles while the adults played a game of Trivial Pursuit about Bishop Johnson. There was something for everyone, and everyone was a winner at this event. If you were not able to attend this year, don t worry, Family Fun Day is an annual event, so you will have plenty of opportunities to make Family Fun Day memories with your COPIM family. 2 The Praise Report Page 2 The Deacon Ministry of COPIM The Deacon Ministry is on the move, spiritually, and doing a great work for God s people! Taking the lead is none other than Ministry Stream Coordinator Deacon Lee Harris. The Deacon Ministry s highest obligations are to serve the COPIM family and to be available to render service. The true purpose of the ministry is to empower all no matter how great or small in the process of being great they are. The newsletter team took some time out to speak with Deacon Lee Harris and here s what we found out! Deacon Harris was born in New York and was taught at a young age to be humble and to trust God. He is graduated from Santa Monica College with an Associates of Arts degree. Deacon Harris currently works at Los Angeles Unified School District, where he has worked for several years. While his first love is being married to Mrs. Yolanda Harris, some of Deacon Harris s hobbies include fantasy football, grilling and relaxing. The Deacon Ministry has some exciting events coming up such as a workshop to further training and take them to another level. As a leader, he is known for his personal motto: Make people a priority with respect!, which has clearly been demonstrated in the many things Deacon Harris has been involved in at COPIM such as the Tea Party for our young girls, ages 5-12 years, and hair cuts for our boys/young men, ages of 5-17 years. Deacon Harris is extremely active in the church and is also the Ministry Stream Coordinator of the Media Ministry, Adult/Youth/ Children s Choir, Armor Bearer, Social Media and Pastoral Support. He expresses his excitement and gratefulness to Bishop Johnson for choosing him to lead this awesome ministry; the Lord is guiding his steps to walk and talk in his purpose. Let s celebrate Deacon Lee Harris and show the Deacon Ministry they are appreciated! Vacation Bible School Was the Place to Be If you didn t attend Vacation Bible School (VBS) this summer, you really missed out on a spirit filled treat. VBS in a word was phenomenal. It was well attended, it was conducted in a spirit filled environment, and the classes were facilitated by knowledgeable instructors. It all started with prayer in the main cathedral, and then you were dismissed to individual classes. You were free to attend the classes that you felt compelled to be in. The classes offered were: Betrayal, Abandonment, Fear, Joy, Peace, and Anger. I was fortunate enough to sit in the Abandonment class and not only was it factual and insightful; it was grounded in the word of God. I left with knowledge but also scripture to help me continue to read on my own, said Desiree Thomas. I honestly had so much fun I didn t want it to end. The school ended with prize giveaways ranging from gift certificates to a TV. Pastor Hooks, who coordinated this whole event, is entertaining and kept a strict schedule. This all happened within an hour. If you just couldn t make it this year, then it has to be placed on your To-Do list for next year. Pastor Hooks did such a great job with this special summer offering, it s hard to wait for next year s VBS.

3 The Praise Report Page 3 Assimilation 101: Orientation- - It s Not Just For New Members All COPIM Members: if you have not completed the orientation course offered by the Assimilation Ministry, please make sure you sign up. At the request of Bishop Johnson, all new members will be required to complete the course and all established members will be required to retake the course as a refresher. As kingdom builders, it is important to ensure we know and understand what we believe as the body of Christ, what we believe as a church and how we operate and function as a church. The Assimilation Ministry consists of spiritually mature individuals who assist in building unity in the church through the introduction and integration of new members into the local body. For more information, please contact assimilation@copim.org. Safety Tips Any warm day is a time for fun in the sun! Trips to the beach, family vacations and bathing in the sun are popular this time of the year. However, safety is just as important! Extreme heat can lead to serious health conditions such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Every year, nearly 200 people die from heat related injuries, specifically adults over 50,die from heat-related injuries. Pool safety, diet and proper car maintenance also play an important role in enjoying your summer. Let's take a look at a few safety tips below! Health Maintenance 1. Stay out of the sun! 2. Stay hydrated! 3. Dress appropriately! 4. Cool down! 5. Prevent sunburn! 6. Secure proper air conditioning! Car Maintenance 1. Check your tires! 2. Check your cooling system! 3. Get an oil change! 4. Get your brakes inspected! 5. Have your battery checked! Signs of Dehydration/Heat Stroke 1. Headache 2. Dizziness 3. Nausea & Vomiting 4. Confusion 5. Rapid pulse 6. Fainting Let's stay healthy and safe on the road! If you or someone you know experience any of these symptoms, dial 911 immediately! Ignoring these tips can be fatal. 4 The Praise Report Page 4 What Exactly is GPS? Have you heard about GPS? Are you interested in learning more about it? GPS, an acronym for Global Priority Solutions, is valuebased leadership that focuses on the use of the 3 R s: Round Table, Reinforcement and Recognition, as the foundation of the program. GPS is leadership at its finest because it fosters personal and professional growth through thought, discussion, support and goal setting. GPS is a 10-week training held weekly with each session lasting approximately 30 to 60 minutes. GPS is conducted in small groups limited to only five participants; this allows everyone to fully participate in the discussions by explaining their personal thought processes and ideas related to the topic. Understanding the value of GPS s principles, Bishop Johnson instituted the use of GPS at COPIM with the office staff, executive staff, and the evangelism ministry with the intention to expand its use beyond staff. GPS, is designed to create a network/ partnership amongst the group to identify measurable goals, values and principles to create change and transformation, individually and organizationally. GPS program is comprised of multiple modules. However, upon completion of the 1 st module additional groups of five can be facilitated to afford others the opportunity to participate in the program, extending the benefits of GPS to everyone at COPIM. Do words like values, transformation, culture change, personal growth, and character align with your purpose? If you answered, yes, then this class is for you! The 1 st module is designed in empower you in areas such as: 1. Attitude 2. Hard Work 3. Honesty 4. Listening 5. Goals 6. Saving 7. Responsibility 8. Patience 9. Generosity 10. Conflict Resolution Hurricane Harvey Relief In response to the devastating and ravaging aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Bishop Johnson, on behalf of COPIM, is extending a hand of love and altruism; he is calling for the COPIM family to exhibit our expression of compassion to the hurricane victims by providing financial support to the many individuals and families who have been greatly impacted by this unprecedented natural disaster. COPIM is collecting donations in increments of $25 for the hurricane victims who have experienced loss and displacement because of Hurricane Harvey. We have partnered with a Houston-based faith organization to provide support and assistance to those who are now picking up the pieces and rebuilding their lives from the rubble. This is a call to action: if you are able to give, please do! Your minimum gift of $25 is a seed subject to multiplication. It may not seem as though a $25 seed can make an impact, but only God can multiply and enumerate [count] the number of fruit that one seed produces. Your donation will be used to provide food and shelter for those in need. 5 Know y our Bible Word Find The Praise Report Our Vision Page 5 The vision of Cathedral of Praise International Ministries was stated by our founder, Jesus the Christ, and recorded in Luke 4: This is a ministry of reconciliation ordained to assist the poor, to heal the hurting, to deliver the captive, to restore sagacity to the spiritually blind, to set free the oppressed, and to preach and teach the truth of the Gospel. We have been commissioned to focus on people rather than programs, to create a spiritual atmosphere where true worshippers can praise Him in the freedom of the Spirit, and to break down the walls of tradition that make the Word of God of none effect. We are commanded to edify the people of God by demonstrating unconditional love, by developing a community of believers who give of themselves so that no one is lacking anything, and by sowing the Word of God in our lives that a harvest of spiritual fruit might blossom forth. Why We Celebrate Labor Day Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September, but it didn t start out this way. Planned by the Central Labor Union, the first celebrated U.S. Labor Day was on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City. As a sign of solidarity and unity in a demand for labor rights, 10,000 union workers marched the streets of Manhattan from New York City Hall to 92 nd Street. The march concluded with a rally at Wendel s Elm Park where the marchers met their families and hosted a picnic, concert and speeches. The celebration was a turning point in how workers were viewed and treated in the workplace. The event was a huge success and the unity and camaraderie were a testament to: United We Stand. The workers who were assembled, made a vow to continue in the celebration of labor. During the early 19th century, prior to the unions uniting to improve the working conditions of many American employees worked 12-hour days; however, as a result of the workers unifying and fighting for employee rights against workplace inequities, in 1916 the Adamson Act was passed to establish the 8-hour work day we have come to know today. The holiday was established to celebrate all those who labor in the workforce, regardless of position or capacity. There have been disagreements about who proposed Labor Day as a holiday. Some have credited Peter J. Maguire, co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, with its creation, while others have credited Matthew Maguire, a machinist. Regardless of who actually established Labor Day, we should be grateful that the day is used to acknowledge and celebrate the individuals who contribute to the workplace, no matter how big or small the contribution.
