From the Pastor... Dear Beloved Congregation, As your pastor, my calling from our Lord is to Feed My Sheep! (John 21:17). There are a number of things that could mean. But there is one thing we know for sure. It means that the pastor should be proclaiming the Word of God to the people of God. Because the Word of God is the necessary food for spiritual growth and intimacy with Christ, we need a well-rounded diet. Therefore, it is my duty to give you the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). I am excited because as I have been thinking and praying about what to preach and teach for the next few years, I believe Christ has placed on my heart to lay out a five-year strategic plan. Now I am not presuming that the Lord may not return before 5 years, or that I might not be your pastor whether by death or other causes, but it is wise to make plans, and I pray that this strategic plan will be accomplished here at Farmville Baptist Church. Think with me. If you would come to every preaching-teaching time in the next 5 years, you would hear messages that will cover every area of the Bible. Don t worry. It does not mean that we would stay in the book of Genesis for weeks on end or that we would cover Leviticus chapter by chapter. We would start in Genesis and cover the first eleven chapters, but then we would break and go over to John s gospel. Then maybe we would delve into some sections of Psalms and Proverbs. We will study the life of Abraham, the life of Joseph, and the life of Moses. The plan is to bring enough variety to keep us thinking, but also in 5 years every area of the Bible would be touched and proclaimed as God s truth. I hope you get excited to think that if you were here every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, you would hear the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation. And when you cannot be here, if you listened to the recording you could to stay up to date. That s pretty cool. I think we can do it. Keep me in your prayers as I design this five-year plan. Love you so much, Pastor Tom As we begin a new church year, let us remember that Sunday School holds a vital role in the life of the church. It is not only for children, but it provides an important place for many things in the lives of adults. The main purpose of Sunday School is to help men, women, boys, and girls study God's Word and apply it to their lives. In addition, Sunday School provides a small-group atmosphere where members share thoughts, ideas, and feelings and best of all, know each other by name. So, join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 as we learn more about our blessed Savior, Jesus Christ and each other. Your Brother in Christ, David Turner Sunday School Director

Dear Church Family: I wanted to start by thanking you all for loving and supporting our young people and college students. In a recent message, David Platt was talking about Psalms 67:1-2, which reads, May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, so that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. He pointed out 2 important truths in this passage. The first is that God desires to bless us. Each one of us could spend hours chronicling all of the blessings that God has richly given us. However, we often stop there without considering for what purpose God blesses us. If we read on in verse 2, the second part is abundantly clear. We receive God s blessings so that we might make His glory known to others and in all nations. From Genesis to the book of Revelation, we read time and time again how God s blessings to various people were transformed into God being exalted..even in some of the most uncertain circumstances. Each time you give at a youth fundraiser, each time you pray for a student or college student, or speak an encouraging word to them, you are taking God s blessings and allowing those blessings to be used to make the Glory of God known throughout the land. You never know the impact you may have on the life of one of these students, and you never know the path God has chosen for one of these students. I am confident that God is going to use them in amazing ways to further His kingdom, and God may be using your blessings now to prepare the students for future service. So thank you. Thank you for being a blessing to Kristee and me. Thank you for being a blessing to our students. Thank you for allowing God to work through your blessings. Thank you for living Psalm 67:1-2. I can t believe this year is already winding down. Please continue to pray for all of our students as they close out this semester. Kristee and I are praying that you all have a great holiday season and are surrounded by the peace and love that only Christ can bring. We love you all, John

praise points FROM THE HEART of PAM KENNEY This past Sunday I was honored to attend a former pastor s final sermon as he retires from full time ministry. Al Dykeman taught me so much about ministry in the years that I served as his music minister at Union Grove Baptist Church. His love for people and the way he shepherds the church members is something that is not taught in seminary. It is something that comes out of a heart for ministry. His final sermon spoke volumes to me. He read from Exodus 4: Moses answered, What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, The Lord did not appear to you? 2 Then the Lord said to him, What is that in your hand? A staff, he replied. 3 The Lord said, Throw it on the ground. Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, Reach out your hand and take it by the tail. So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 This, said the Lord, is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob has appeared to you. He expounded on the scenario from these verses where the Lord asked Moses what that was in his hand and then God showing him how something so practical and ordinary could be used in great ways to bring glory to Him and lead people to His service. Brother Al then took us on a journey through the scriptures as we looked at a small boy named David. Brother Al said I can almost hear God asking this small boy what s that in your hand? Five small stones? Then when David used these ordinary stones to accomplish extraordinary things in slaying the giant Goliath, I could see where we were going with the message. After that several other biblical characters were asked the same question, What s that in your hand? The small boy had a sack lunch in his hand that fed over 5000 people. Dorcas had a needle. Samson had a jawbone. The illustrations continued. The ordinary things in each person s hand were all used in supernatural ways when given to God to use. In closing Brother Al said, I m almost certain I m missing someone. Oh yes, it s you! Everyone in this sanctuary has something. What s that in your hand? I was challenged. Each day I want to seek ways that I can be used in extraordinary ways to further the kingdom. How about you? What s in your hand? Pam

There are many exciting things happening in the Children s area. Keep your eyes open and watch for all the fun things that are coming up! Children s Church Ministry Children s Church Teachers November: Heather Hartley December: Debra Hightower The first 2 months of the school year has been such a success, as the teachers and children have settled into the daily routine and schedule of the preschool. We have Chapel with Pastor Tom, the second Wednesday of each month for the 3 and 4-year-old classes. We have a weekly music class with Mrs. Vannessa Rogers. The Children s Library is open for the preschool children as well as our own church family s children. The Harvest Festival was a wonderful success, many of our preschool families attended, and a Big thank you to all our members that made each family feel welcomed. The Holiday season is approaching fast. We will celebrate Thanksgiving with a Share Feast for the 4 s class. Mrs. Elizabeth McCormick and Mrs. Marianne Foster will dress up as a Pilgrim and an Indian squaw, and read a special story and do a craft about the first Thanksgiving. Church members are welcome to attend this special service. We will celebrate Christmas with Musical Programs for the 2 and 3 year-old classes performing together in the sanctuary and the 4 year old class will have a Christmas Program in the sanctuary as well. All church members are invited to come out to see how God is using our program to bless families in our community and us members, as well. We will sponsor a float in the Auburn Christmas Parade again this year, with the Church. Please join us on the float or volunteer to join us to help assemble the float. Thank you for your continued support. Sharing Christ s Love, Sherri Cash

I want to thank all who came to the Salad Supper on October 24 as well as all who worked so hard to make it a profitable and enjoyable evening. A special thank you goes to Cindy Heath for her incredible organizational skills, her publications skills, and her decorating skills. She is a whiz at pulling together events, and the women s committee relies heavily on her talents. Thanks also to all the ladies who pitched in to help decorate and make the fellowship hall look amazing. You are too many to name, but you know who you are. A great big thank you goes to Cindy Davis for working the nursery which was filled that evening with our special guests from the Hosanna Home and their children. She was ably assisted by Lauren Evans and Emily Dorman who freely gave of their time and talents. And of course, thanks to Pam Kenney for giving yet more of her time to run sound for the event. We heard a challenging message from Toma Knight who shared about the difficult circumstances the Lord has called her to walk through this past year as she lost an adult son last summer. Her testimony of trusting the Lord even in dark days is an encouragement to us all. Her desire has been to comfort others with the comfort with which she has been comforted (2 Cor. 1). She reminded us that when Job received the news of his many losses that he fell down to the ground and worshipped. We ask ourselves, would that be my response? We won t really know until the day comes when we receive the unexpected knock at the door or the phone call from the medical lab with bad news. But as Toma encouraged, we will more likely trust Him in the big things when we learn to trust Him moment by moment in the little things. Remember the words to the old hymn, Moment by Moment? Never a trial that He is not there, Never a burden that He doth not bear; Never a sorrow that He doth not share, Moment by moment, I m under His care. Never a heartache, and never a groan, Never a teardrop, and never a moan; Never a danger but there on the throne Moment by moment He thinks of His own. We have so much to be thankful for as we head into this Thanksgiving season, not the least is our amazing Savior who ever intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. I m also incredibly thankful for the privilege of being called to be a part of the beautiful Body of Christ at Farmville. Betty McClendon, for the Women s Ministry Committee

I cant believe it's already November! It's a beautiful time of year! It's a busy time of year! But, while we are all busy with our own agendas, lets stop, breath, and remember how blessed we are! So, how can we be a blessing to others? Missions! God tells us to Love One Another. You have shown love for others through the Christmas Backpack ministry. We ended up with 13 backpacks that were packed full of food, school supplies, hygiene products, clothes, games, candy, Bibles, and the Christmas story. Children along the Mississippi River region should be very excited and proud to receive these wonderful backpacks given in Jesus name. Thanks to everyone who helped make our first year with this project a success! You will have another opportunity to show your love as we collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. Our International missionaries share story after story of how your giving to the LMCO has provided the means for them to be where they are and to share the Gospel with the lost. Your gifts Transform Lives, and your prayers Transform Lives. Be watching for the prayer guide in your bulletin to learn how you can pray for our missionaries, and the lost people groups. Let s be that blessing to others by giving generously together to the LMCO so they might hear and receive the gift of Eternal life! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!
