1 Mission/Purpose: We Exist to: Love God. Love People. Make Disciples Vision: To be changed by Christ to love and serve in the streets of Shelbyville & the World Centenary United Methodist Church Shelbyville Ky Vol. 16 No. 4 - April 2012 From the Pastor s Pen Dear members and friends of Centenary, As announced in worship last Sunday, Bishop Davis has invited me to be a part of his cabinet. So in June I will be appointed as a District Superintendent. This came as a total surprise to me, as I had not requested a change in appointment. But I go to this new assignment willingly. As has been the case every time Cheryl and I have had a move, it will be hard to leave. But we look forward to the new challenges that are ahead. Bishop Davis has assured me, and Dr. Hawxhurst has assured our Staff Parish Relations Committee, that they are very aware of where we are as congregation and will take great care in making sure your next pastor will be able to lead the lay leadership of this congregation to the next steps in ministry and in the building program. Between now and June, I have challenged our staff that this is not a time to rest or wait. We will continue to work hard. One of the exciting things the staff and the Church Council is working on together is the development of a coordinated system of inviting, connecting, and integrating new persons into the life of Centenary. You will be hearing more about this as it is developed. The Staff Parish Committee continues to seek the right person(s) for helping to lead us in music and worship, both 8:48 & 11:00 services. It has been perhaps one of the more frustrating undertakings for the committee and me. Unlike with the youth minister position where we had 25 applications, we have not had many applications. There have been two interviews, but the committee concluded neither was the right fit for us. Related to this, even though we are still without a Chancel Choir director, it is my desire and hope that we can have an 11:00 choir for Easter Sunday. To that end, I am inviting any and all who want/can be a part of that to meet this Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. in the choir room. You need not to have sung with the choir in the past. I would anticipate that we can be done by 8:30. Help us make this happen. Thank you for the privilege of being your pastor, SERMON SCHEDULE April 1 st Palm Sunday The Crucifixion Mark 15:25-39 April 8th Easter Sunday Christ the Victor Mark 16: 1-6 Chancel Choir singing at 11:00 Service April 15th Bessie Hamilton & Kentucky State Wesley Foundation Students Sharing April 22 nd Trust and Obey Luke 24: Native American Ministries Offering April 29 th Conclusion of Discovery Weekend Fifth Sunday Offering Mark

8 Happy Easter from Kids Korner! This is the season in our church calendar when we take time to reflect on the life of Christ, from the procession of Palm Sunday through the passion of Holy Week, to the proclamation of the Resurrection. Last month the children of Kids Korner gathered as usual, with coloring in the fellowship hall. However, this time rather than simply coloring just to be doing something, they created Easter cards to send to the people of West Liberty UMC. The usual excitement of coming together was channeled into some good work that hopefully will cheer the hearts of some who are living every day in the hope of the Resurrection. In the business of our lives, especially with all the new activities that spring brings, it is not always easy to remember that there are others who might be lonely, overwhelmed, indeed feeling forsaken by those whom they loved, or even by God. You might be the one who is walking that road today. I invite you to come join us on April 21. Come spend a couple of hours along side some great kids. Come experience the joy and excitement of being a child. Come be a part of helping someone experience the love of Christ. Come share the hope that comes from knowing we serve a risen Savior. Blessings, Shannon Boaz Centenary Youth News Discovery Weekend April 27-29, Weekend retreat for the Jr. Hi, led by the Sr. High and Adult Youth Leaders.
