School Motto, Mission Statement Teaching Minds Training Hearts for God Proverbs 22:6 The mission of Santa Clarita Christian School is to partner with Christian parents of like faith to challenge students minds and train their hearts for God through a distinctively biblical education. The school seeks to pursue academic excellence, promote spiritual growth, and encourage character development in order to produce students who are prepared to make a difference in the world for God. Introduction to SCCS In 1982 the First Baptist Church of Saugus and Temple Baptist Church of Canyon Country merged to form Santa Clarita Baptist Church. In July of that year, the church started a traditional elementary and secondary school called Santa Clarita Christian School. They began their first year in September 1982 with 110 students and 12 faculty members. The school continues to grow with current enrollment at 500 students in kindergarten through grade 12. Numerical growth is not the only advancement that SCCS has seen over the past years. Our students continue to grow in their academic preparedness as well. With the ever growing need for highly qualified college graduates in today s work force, SCCS is proud of its continued reputation as a college preparatory school. SCCS has a 97% rate of its graduates moving on to a successful college experience. Santa Clarita Christian School has enjoyed a positive reputation in the community and the demand to enroll children in the school is high. Several grades are often full with waiting lists. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. The history of Santa Clarita Christian School is filled with evidences of God s blessing as it has educated hundreds of children over the years. It continues to press forward to fulfill its mission statement and to provide a Christian education that strives for academic excellence, spiritual growth, and character development. Admission Policies SCCS is a Christian school for Christian families who already attend Bible believing churches and who share a desire to see their children grow spiritually as well as academically. The admission policies are based on a common agreement in Bible doctrine and active church membership in churches of like faith and practice to the sponsoring church of SCCS, Santa Clarita Baptist Church. The school s complete doctrinal statement is included in this packet in the Registration Application section. The Christian education at SCCS is for families that regularly attend Protestant, evangelical, Bible-believing churches. This promotes a consistency between what is taught at home, at school, and at church. SCCS is not merely a private school or an alternative to public education. It is a Christian school with goals of spiritual growth for each student. It is vital that families who are considering SCCS evaluate their own church affiliation and spiritual goals before applying for enrollment. We expect all our students to attend church on a regular basis, and remaining as a student at SCCS is based on faithful church attendance. SCCS is also a school with above-average academic expectations. It is the goal of SCCS to be on the cutting edge of education and to challenge students to achieve at the highest levels in each class. Due to these challenging academic goals, students tend to have more homework than in other schools and have more difficult assignments to complete. We want to openly acknowledge this so that the increased level of difficulty is not a surprise when it is experienced. SCCS admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally afforded to students at the school. SCCS does not discriminate in the administration of its

education policies, admission policies, scholarship programs, athletic programs, and other schooladministered programs. SCCS strongly believes that the Bible teaches that any form of racial discrimination is wrong and is to be condemned. SCCS warmly welcomes students of all nationalities. SCCS has not been established to serve as a reform school or a place to solve behavioral problems. Attendance at SCCS is a privilege that is available to students who desire a Christian education and who are willing to strive for academic excellence. The administration reserves the right to deny admission or to dismiss students who do not conform to the goals of the school in actions or attitudes. Because full parentschool cooperation is vital, SCCS will not accept students who do not wish to attend or who are not living at home or in the home of a parent-approved guardian. To be accepted at SCCS, students must qualify in the following areas: Students must read the information in the Parent/Student Handbook and agree to abide by the guidelines and regulations as stated. The Principal will ask students during the admissions interview if they wish to attend SCCS and if they are willing to fully comply with all expectations. Parents must submit all supporting documents. Students must complete entrance testing or show by recent achievement test scores that they can handle the above-average academic expectations of SCCS. The school is not equipped or staffed to teach students with serious learning disabilities. Students who have been expelled from another school or who have experienced serious behavioral or academic problems in the last school year will not be eligible for enrollment. SCCS does not accept students who are married or who have children of their own. Any applicant who has used any form of illegal drugs or used alcohol within the last year are not eligible for enrollment. Application Process Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at SCCS. It is a privilege for us to work with parents who are committed to Christian education and who desire to see their children in a program that strives for academic excellence in a caring, spiritual atmosphere. The first step is to read this Admission packet and determine if your child qualifies for enrollment: 1. Does your family regularly attend a Protestant Bible-believing church? 2. Do you agree with our doctrinal statement? 3. Do you agree with the philosophy of SCCS and are willing to support its policies and guidelines? 4. Does your child have a good academic and disciplinary record? If the answer to the questions above are all yes, then the next step is to complete the Registration Application Form and return it to the school office along with the supporting documents listed on the next page of this application. Applications will be accepted beginning January 5, However, they will not begin to be processed until February 1, 2016 for administrative review. Families who have children currently enrolled at SCCS are given priority in placement for next year as openings are available. Openings in SCCS are not filled on a first-come, first-served basis, but are filled by applicants chosen on the basis of grades, attitude, openness to spiritual teaching, church attendance, and probability of success at SCCS. We will notify you of your status within 2 weeks of the date you submitted the application. Once the Registration Application, supporting documents, and application fees are received, you will be notified as soon as possible if an opening is available for you to pursue. The office will call to set up an appointment for entrance testing (if applicable). After testing, an appointment for an interview with the Principal will be arranged for both parents and the prospective student. The interview will allow you to ask any questions you have regarding the school and will give the Administration the opportunity to meet you and your child.

After the interview, you will be notified of acceptance or denial. To finalize registration after acceptance, the first month's tuition payment must be paid. This non-refundable commitment assures SCCS that you are truly intending to follow through with school enrollment and are not taking a spot from another student waiting to attend SCCS. If your payment for the roster spot is not received within two weeks of acceptance, the spot will then be offered to another applicant. When the first month's payment is received, your child will be officially placed on the school roster for the school year. If you have any questions regarding the enrollment process, please do not hesitate to call the school office and ask to talk to Debbie Curry regarding admissions at or curry@sccs.cc. General Information Accreditation The federal government and the State of California do not approve or "accredit" schools. However, other private organizations do offer accreditation programs that benefit the school through self-study and evaluation by outside professional educators. The main accreditation agency on the West Coast for public and private schools is the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). SCCS is accredited by WASC and is a member of Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), so our school credits are accepted by other schools, colleges, and universities without any difficulty. In connection with accreditation standards, SCCS has a well-defined Action Plan that governs growth, development, and school improvement. Faculty Qualifications Santa Clarita Christian School considers the faculty to be the most important ingredient in operating a successful school. These individuals are the ones who spend hours each day with the students, investing their knowledge, understanding, and heart for God. We diligently search for teachers who are trained to be professionals, personally committed to Christ, and dedicated to academic excellence. For the teachers at SCCS, education cannot be just a job, but a calling from God to train young people in the Christian school setting. All academic faculty members at SCCS have completed their college degrees, with several having earned masters degrees or other advanced degrees. The school provides educational grants to the faculty to pursue state credentials, a masters degree, or other advanced degrees. After teachers are hired, they are given additional training by the school administration and are annually observed so that they are prepared to meet SCCS expectations. You as parents can be assured that your children are being taught by teachers who love the Lord, who are properly trained, and who are carefully evaluated on a regular basis so the students can achieve success in their learning goals. School Age Requirements SCCS follows state guidelines for accepting students into Kindergarten. Children need to be 5 years old by October 1 st in order to apply for enrollment at SCCS. Full/Half Day Kindergarten SCCS offers a full or half-day kindergarten program. The half-day program will continue SCCS s tradition of a great school preparatory program. It will focus on reading and math with exposure to the sciences and social studies. The full-day program will take advantage of the extra time to expand on some of the science and social studies activities while adding some creative learning opportunities. Either program will equip our youngest constituents for a successful entry into first grade. Please indicate on your registration information which program you are interested in for next year. 4 Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs) In accordance with the school s mission and philosophy of education, the following ESLRs have been established to form the basis for all learning goals, school activities, programs, and students growth intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Santa Clarita Christian School desires that all students achieve the following: #1 Students as Committed Christians Accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior, forming a personal relationship with God Himself. Develop a spiritual life through daily Bible reading, prayer, application of Biblical principles to life, character development, and faithful attendance at a Bible-believing church. Accept the Bible as the Word of God, the basis for all truth, and the authority for all matters of life. Accept personal responsibility for thoughts, speech, actions, and attitudes. Affirm a biblical worldview that looks at life, academic studies, government, social issues, diverse cultures, and world events from God s point of view as found in Scripture. #2 Students as Independent Learners Develop specific learning skills that include listening, reading with understanding, writing with clarity, researching from multiple sources, organizing time and materials efficiently, and using technology creatively. Establish positive relationships with others in the learning process, utilizing individual abilities and skills in a team effort to successfully accomplish group goals. Convey thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and convictions in a clear and accurate way using effective speaking techniques and excellent writing skills. Strive for excellence in all subject areas, complete assignments with diligence, and contribute to class discussions and group projects. Commit personally to a life of learning, the never-ending quest for truth and understanding. #3 Students as Critical Thinkers Collect, evaluate, analyze, and synthesize information in a logical way. Make wise decisions based on accurate evaluation of relevant information. Discern truth from error in all learning situations by comparing information to the source of truth, the Word of God. Use higher levels of thinking to apply knowledge to new issues, questions, or problems. #4 Students as Healthy, Productive Citizens Promote physical fitness through regular exercise and proper eating habits. Develop emotional stability by realizing that self-worth comes from God s approval, not man s approval. Make proper lifestyle choices that reflect a commitment to Christ, especially relating to personal purity before marriage and the determination not to abuse the physical body with alcohol or foreign substances. Treat all people with respect, demonstrating kindness to others in words and actions, and abhorring any form of racial or cultural discrimination by accepting all men and women as created equal by God. Practice responsible citizenship through community service, voting, and praying for government leaders.

SCCS Doctrinal Statement The following Doctrinal Statement is the position of Santa Clarita Baptist Church and Christian School and reflects what we will be teaching your child here at SCCS. 1. We believe that the Bible, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God, that it is completely and fully inerrant in its original writings, that it is totally accurate in all that it teaches, and that it is the final authority for all questions of faith and practice in daily living. (2 Tim. 3:16-17, Jn. 17:17, 2 Pet. 1:20-21, Ps. 119:105) 2. We believe that there is one and only one God, the God of the Bible, who eternally exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Heb. 11:6, Jn. 4:24, Ps. 102:27, Jn. 1:1-2, Jn. 20:28) 3. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He is absolute deity, and have existed from eternity in the Godhead with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was born to the virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit, lived a sinless life as both God and man on earth so that He could die on the cross to pay for sin, and then arose from the dead to conquer death for all who accept Him as their personal Savior. (Jn. 1:1, 14, Col. 1:16, 17, Is. 7:14, Heb. 9:26, Matt. 3:17, Heb. 4:15, 1 Cor. 15:3-4, Jn. 3:16) 4. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person whose ministry is to convict of sin, to bear witness to truth, to act as the Agent of the new birth, to seal, guide, teach, sanctify, and help believers as He indwells everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior. (Jn. 14:16, 26, Jn. 16:8-11, Eph. 5:18, Jn. 16:13) 5. We believe that Adam was created by God in innocence but, by voluntary transgression, fell into sin and plunged the whole human race into condemnation. As a result of this fall, every person is born as a sinner, is a sinner by nature and conduct, and is in need of a Savior to be saved from eternal judgment and death. (Gen. 1:27, Gen. 2:7, Rom. 3:9-10, 1 Cor. 15:22, Rom. 3:19, 23, Rom. 6:23, Rom. 10:13) 6. We believe that salvation and the gift of eternal life can only be attained by accepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior by faith in His substitutionary death and the shedding of His blood on the cross. His payment for sin reconciles believers to God and is a gift to be received, not earned by works. To accept Christ as Savior, individuals must admit their own sin, recognize that only Christ can forgive sin, ask God to forgive them, believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for them, and then ask God to save them They then become a child of God and are secure in their salvation forever. Those who accept Christ will enjoy heaven forever, while those who reject Christ will suffer eternal and conscious punishment apart from God. (1 Cor. 15:22, Rom. 3:23, Rom. 6:23, Jn. 10:9-10, Jn. 14:6, Jn. 3:14-15, Rom. 5:1,10, Eph. 2:8-9, 1 Jn. 5:13) 7. We believe that Jesus Christ Himself will someday return bodily as clearly stated in the Bible. We believe that His return at the Rapture is imminent and will occur before the Tribulation Period, and that His Second Coming to earth will occur before His Millennial Reign (Jn. 14:1-6, Matt. 24:27,30, Matt. 25:31, Thess. 4:8-18, Rev. 7:14, 20:1-6, Dan. 9:26,27) 8. We believe in the prominence of the local church as instituted by Christ before His death and resurrection. The church is empowered by the Holy Spirit and is a place of worship, spiritual growth, evangelism, and service to others. We believe the only two ordinances of the church are baptism by immersion in water after salvation, and the remembrance of Christ's payment for sin in the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. Eph. 2:20-21, Col. 2:12, Matt. 3:16-17, Acts 2:38-41, 1 Cor. 11:23-26, Eph. 4:11-16, Matt. 28:19-20, Mk. 16:15) 9. We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all life, by His direct act, not by the process of evolution, and that the six days of creation were literal, solar days as stated in Scripture. (Gen 1:1-2:7, Col. 1:16-17, Jn. 1:3) 10. We believe that all saved individuals should live a life pleasing to God, separated from religious heresy, from worldly practices and habits, from sinful activities, and from associations that cloud the distinctions being a follower of Christ. (1 Jn. 2:15-17, 2 Cor. 6:17, 2 Cor.7:1, 1 Cor. 10:23-33, 1 Pet. 1:15-16)

SCCS Parental Statement of Cooperation I understand that SCCS is a Christian school under the direction of Santa Clarita Baptist Church, whose goal is to bring children to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, to encourage them to be faithful to the Word of God and to challenge them to grow spiritually. I understand that SCCS is a conservative Christian school that will not tolerate profanity, ungodly actions or behavior, or disrespectful attitudes toward authority. I understand the mission and purpose of SCCS, and agree to support and cooperate in any way at home and at school to enhance and fulfill this purpose and philosophy. I agree to cooperate with the administration and faculty in the education of my child according to their guidelines and expectations. I give my child permission to take part in school-related activities, including field trips and athletic trips, and absolve the school from liability in the event of any injury that occurs on such a trip. I understand that I will be notified in advance of any school or class-sponsored trip and will be asked to sign a permission slip. I agree to support the dress code as outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook and to see that our children abide by those guidelines. I have read and agree to comply with the school s financial policies as stated on the Tuition and Fee Schedule. I agree to keep my account current and will contact the Business Office in the event a problem arises with the payment of my school bill or other related charges. I understand that if my account becomes delinquent, my child will be asked to stay out of school until payment is made in full. I understand that SCCS reserves the right to ask any student to withdraw from school who does not willingly cooperate with school guidelines and procedures, or whose attitude, in the opinion of the administration and teachers, is detrimental to the school or to other students. I agree to work together with the administration and faculty as partners in the education of my child. I understand that talking to other parents about school problems, or undermining the authority of teachers and administrators by complaining to others hurts the school and my child, and I agree to only talk to those who are either part of the problem or part of the solution. I agree to attend as many parent meetings and school functions as possible to show my child that I am deeply interested in his/her education. I agree to allow SCCS to use pictures and/or likeness of my child in school related documents and publications, both in print and online. I will read the Parent/Student Handbook and agree to abide by the policies and procedures it outlines. 12/14

SCCS Financial Policies 1. Tuition fees are due and payable on or before August 1 st. As a convenience to our families, SCCS offers a 10 month payment plan with the first tuition payment due August 1 st and the last payment due May 1 st. All tuition fees are paid through Smart Tuition Services. 2. All monthly payments are due the 1 st of the month with a 15 day grace period ending the 15 th of the month. A $25 late fee will be charged if payments are not received by Smart Tuition Services by the 15 th of each month. Withdrawals that have insufficient funds will be charged an additional $ It is important for all accounts to be kept current so that SCCS can meet its financial obligations. If any charges, including materials fees, day care fees, and other miscellaneous charges are unpaid past the 25 th of the month, the student may be asked to stay out of school until the bill is paid. 4. Tuition is charged for the first three children in a family. The oldest child in a family is considered the first child in determining tuition costs. The second and third children in the same family (household) are charged a discounted rate. There is no tuition charge for additional children beyond the third in the same family (household). 5. New families must pay their first tuition payment immediately upon acceptance to reserve a place on the school roster. This is to ensure the family is serious about attending SCCS and not taking a place that they are not sure they will use. 6. Students who voluntarily leave SCCS during the year are responsible for any unpaid fees and fines and for tuition costs for the remainder of the month. Since hiring decisions are made based upon enrollment, this will help offset the loss of income. When withdrawing from SCCS, parents must call the office to officially inform us. All school property, such as textbooks and sports uniforms, must be returned to SCCS. 7. When students withdraw before school starts, the first tuition payment, registration fees, and book fees are not refundable. When students are enrolled, SCCS makes financial commitments including hiring decisions and materials purchases to accommodate the student and cannot refund these fees when students withdraw prior to the first day of school. 8. Students may lose their spot on the roster in the event that the first August tuition payment is late and the account is not current. This may result in the loss of reservation for that student(s), and another student on the waiting list may assume that position. 9. Student Materials Fees are due July 1 st. All materials fees are non-refundable if a student withdraws from SCCS during the school year. Students who lose (or damage) books during the course of the year will be billed the replacement cost of the book. 10. Day Care charges are billed monthly and are delinquent if not paid by the 15 th of the month. These charges are billed in 15-minute increments so that any portion of a 15-minute period will result in a charge for 15 minutes. There is a $5.00 minimum charge for any use of Day Care. Day Care begins at 3:15 p.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. Students who are not picked up by 5:00 p.m. will be charged a fine of $1.00 per minute. SCCS will only bill the family of the child using Day Care services regardless of situations that arise with car pool arrangements. 11. To offset additional banking charges, a $25 fee will be assessed on all returned checks (i.e., Lunch Program, field trip fees, etc.). 2/13
