DIVINE WISDOM The Lord s message, through Moses, was to take no revenge and cherish no grudge... love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, Great in theory, but not always realistic! Then Jesus in today s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the real world. Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. They serve 750 to 800 People monthly which is more than 250 local families. Our Lord would want us to share what we have been given with those who have less. Presently needed are canned beans, meats and fish. Also peanut butter & jellies. Canned vegetables especially corn & green beans. Spaghetti & sauce, cereals, and pancake mix & syrup. Soaps, bath tissue, other paper products and shampoo are also needed. Thank you for your generosity. You will be blessed. Feeding the Hungry is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Funeral Mass Arrangements Upon the death of a loved one, a family member should contact the parish office as soon as possible ( ). You will be contacted by our bereavement coordinator, Anna Siwiec-Sitkowska, who will assist the family in planning the funeral liturgy for the deceased. If it is too difficult for you to walk to the front of the church to receive Communion, please know that at each Mass an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion comes to the back of the church to distribute Communion. If you would like to have the Extraordinary Minister give you communion in the back of church, please let an usher know before Mass begins. At Communion time, when you see the Extraordinary Minister come to the back, please raise your hand so that they can see you and give you Holy Communion

5 Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House An Ignatian, Silent Retreat for Men February 24-26, 2017 What personal relationship could be more important than your relationship with God? For the good of the Church, as well as for the good of their own souls and the sake of their families, lay people are encouraged to get away for a few days each year to rekindle their relationship with Christ. Retreats are a time away from our normal activities to spend time getting reacquainted with God, to examine the priorities of life, and to make concrete and practical resolutions for improvement. It is a time to renew a time of reconciliation and peace. You will be staying in a private room in a lovely 1920 s home with all meals included. There is a full schedule of spiritual talks and ample time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation; however, all are optional you are free to set your own schedule. We feel a special commitment to the most vulnerable and the most innocent of all: children in the womb. Of course, unborn children depend primarily upon the care of their mothers. But legal protection is also important, something that has been lacking in the United States for over forty-four years. A bill has been introduced in the Illinois legislature House Bill 40 which has two destructive purposes: to thwart any future decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse or limit Roe vs. Wade; and to allow for the use of public money to fund the taking of innocent human lives through abortion in the state s Medicaid and health insurance programs. It is essential that people who believe in the protection of human life in the womb contact their proper state legislators and express their opposition to House Bill 40. You can find your state legislators by visiting and clicking on Find Your Legislator or by calling the Catholic Conference at or and asking for help.
