1 St. Ignatius of Antioch Church 999 Reading Avenue Yardley, PA Phone: Website: May 14, 2017 Fifth Sunday of Easter The Way Today we sense the apostles' trepidation as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter season has been a time of growing in Easter faith so that we, too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the Lord's promise that he is going to his Father's house to prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out of darkness into God's wonderful light. As the paschal candle continues to burn during this holy season, let us remember that in baptism we were given the light of Christ. With Christ our light as the beacon lighting our way, let us march toward the glory of Pentecost. (c) Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. MINISTERIAL STAFF Rev. Andrew C. Brownholtz, Pastor Rev. Anthony J. 3 FISCAL CORNER INCREASED OFFERTORY PROGRAM Last year our expenses here at St. Ignatius were approximately 2.4 million dollars. These include parish operating expenses such as utilities and maintenance, assessment and debt payments to the archdiocese, employee salaries and benefits, as well as property and liability insurances and taxes. As many of you are aware, we have seen a reduction in our average weekly collection over the past several years. In 2007 our weekly collection was averaging $21,377. That average dropped to $19,151 in 2010 and to $16,916 in So far this year we have seen a small increase in our Sunday average, but we still need your help. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed faithfully to assist with the financial responsibilities of our parish. To help increase parishioner awareness of the importance of our parish offertory, St. Ignatius is currently undertaking an Increased Offertory Program. This program encourages every parishioner to make a decision to provide regular, consistent support to their parish through the offertory. This is a highly individualized decision, and we can t tell you what you can, or should, be giving. Only you can make that decision - because only you know your current financial situation. Once you have determined what an appropriate level of support is for you at the present time - please fill out the response card you will receive in the mail and bring it to Mass with you next weekend. We will collect the cards then. St. Ignatius has a rich history of service to our community and a hopeful future. Your planned, consistent, and regular support of our parish offertory will help us to continue these traditions and expand the programs and ministries that we offer. COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS May 8, 2016 May 7, 2017 Sunday Offering $ 14, Env. $ 14, Env. Catholic Home Missions $ 1, $ 1, We are very grateful for the support of our parish! Have you ever pondered the sacrifice that women make to bring new life into the world? If a man were asked to have a baby, would they? This is mother s day weekend. We need to value, revere and honor our mothers, whether with us or in their eternal destiny. Not just today, but every day. None of us would be here to fulfill God s plan without our mother. God does have a plan for life and love and has revealed it to us. Do you know that plan? What do you know about the beginning of life? Our programs try to answer those questions. The Adult Faith formation committee of St. Ignatius tries to answer some of these questions for you. We do so in a non-threatening and welcoming environment with refreshments and cordial socialization with fellow parishioners. We will be bringing some new looks and changes to our programs next Fall based on your responses to our recent SurveyMonkey. Join us as we meet the first Wed of every month at 7:30 PM in the Antioch Meeting center. Bring your questions/ideas/ requests. We welcome new members. ROSE OF LIFE INTENTION: For all mothers who give of themselves to bring new life into the world.. Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life. Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain, and suffering. Grant us the humility to accept help when we are in need, and teach us to be merciful to all. Every Life is Worth Living Prayer Card USCCB Secretariat. The most precious gift we all receive is the gift of life. If we did not have it, we would not be here. But, have you ever pondered that your life is for all of eternity? That at the Second Coming, you get your resurrected body back to exist for all of eternity either in Heaven or Hell? Well, it IS true! Yes, death temporarily separates your body and soul, but that is not death, that is just change. Our bodies will rise up again to exist forever just look at the Resurrected Jesus and you will see some of what lies ahead. The Respect Life committee wishes to make St. Ignatius a visible prolife parish. We have regular meetings, now less frequently to convenience personal schedules, six times a year.
