2 La Malinche Pg: Malinche Laura Esquivel INTRODUCTION Laura Esquivel was born in Mexico City in His first novel Like Water for Chocolate was published in 1990 and soon arrived or to be number one in sales in Mexico. In 2005 came his highly anticipated novel Malinche. Malinalli La Malinche or indigenous-name-is one of the most controversial figures in the history of Mexico. Admired was the lover of Hernan Cortes and served Laura Esquivel interpreter between the Spaniards and Aztecs during the conquest. Some say that Malinche had betrayed his people for helping the invader. In the novel, Laura Esquivel adventure chronicles the life of the woman who believed that foreign Hernán Cortés would end the horrible human sacrifices practiced Aztec religion only to find cruelty, ambition and greed of the Spaniards who were no less the bloody sacrifices of its people. The story penetrates the heart of the protagonist, Malinche, as the heart of Mexico. Malinche Cortés, like Malinalli also thought of his mother.
