We will be discussing the new exciting Sunday team structure for the fall. BETHEL POSITION OPENING Bethel is seeking a part-time Youth Ministry Communications Assistant. The role of the person in this position is to assist in the overall youth ministry programs through ongoing communications, organization, and database updates. This position is 15 hours/week, offers regular office hours, and reports to the Pastor of Youth and Family. Our Hudson mayor, and Bethel member, Alan Burchill will be our speaker and updating us on some of the new things going on in Hudson. We ll also have special music from Bethel seminarian, Stephen Hilding. The cost is $7.00 per person and yes, you re welcome to bring a friend or two. A PASTORAL CALL FOR PASTOR VAN V. BREDESON Many of us have been praying for Pastor Van and Kathie since they left Bethel. We got word this week that Pastor Van has accepted a three-year term call at Christ Lutheran Church in Somerset, Wisconsin. Congratulations Pastor Van! We re happy for you and for Christ Lutheran! 2ND ANNUAL MISSION TRIP TO PINE RIDGE If you have an interest in Native American Culture, American History, the Old West or Mission trips, you ll want to join us for our Fall trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota. We ll be delivering school supplies and clothing, seeing the sites, hearing from a number of Lakota friends, and doing a small service project. (And above all things, showing the love of Christ through our actions!) The dates are Thursday-Sunday, October 9-12 and the cost is $200 to cover transportation, lodging and food. (We can only take a maximum of 18 people.) Talk to Pastor John, Alan Park or Mary Gerzmehle if you re interested. (This has been a life-changing trip for so many!)

5 AUGUST 10, 2014 The Bethel Bell Ensemble begins rehearsals on Thursday, Sept. 11 The Children s Chime Choir (grades 2-4) meets right after Sunday The Junior Bell Ensemble will also begin on September 21st for PLAN TO BE WITH US FOR A CONCERT WITH A CAUSE! Here s a chance to see and hear our own New Song Band and Pastor John s musical group, Hot Under the Collar, like you ve never heard them before. Both bands will be doing a benefit concert at the Highlands campus on Saturday, September 27 th at 7:30 pm with all proceeds going to Operation Help and The Source. There will be something for everyone that night including folk, blues, Irish, Cajun, blues, bluegrass, rock (with tunes and instruments you won t hear in a worship service!) WELCA SUMMER RETREAT THIS THURSDAY All women of the St. Croix Valley Conference are invited for a blessing-filled morning at this year s Summer Retreat to be held on Thursday, August 14 at Joy Lutheran in Prescott, WI. Registration and coffee will be from 8:15-8:45 am. A $10 fee per person will be taken at the door to cover expenses. Lunch will be served before we head home. One half of the offering taken will go to the Synod Women's Organization,1/4 to the Joy Quilters and 1/4 to Our Neighbors Place. The theme for the morning is "Bags of Blessings" and will include a presentation by Susan Saarem. Susan is a former teacher and the wife of a retired pastor and a member of Balsam Lutheran Church in Amery. She is involved in both congregational and community ministries in everything from piano, vocal music, drama, and leadership roles for events and committees. At the convention in Eau Claire, Sue was elected as our SWO president and we are pleased that she is joining us at our Summer Retreat. Highlights from the Triennial Gathering and the Joyful Bells will be a part of the morning, as well. Elections for Conference Board openings will also be held. The conference is asking all congregations to consider whether someone from their congregation's women's organization would be a good candidate and be willing to be nominated for one of the open positions. Normally a class like this would cost well over $100 per person, but due to our new status with the Red Cross we are able to offer it for $70 per person! OPEN HOUSE AT BHP Families and the community are welcome to come to Bethel Highlands Preschool between 1-6 pm on Monday, August 25th to meet the staff and volunteers, tour the classrooms, and get their school photo taken.. Over the summer there've been lots of changes taking place, and we re proud to show off our results. Come check us out! BETHEL HAPPENINGS YOUNG AT HEARTS MN HISTORY CENTER TRIP On TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th YAH will travel to the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul to see the national traveling exhibit Toys of the '50s, '60s and '70s and attend the special lecture Toys Are Us: Memories and History by author and show developer, Kathy Roberts. The bus will leave Bethel Downtown at 9:30 am and leave the MN History Center at 1:30 pm to return to Hudson. The cost of the trip is $ Lunch is on your own at the History Center café. The trip is available for Bethel members; if there is space after Bethel members have signed up, there will be a waiting list for friends. You can sign up at the Downtown welcome center. Along with their fabulous voices, Jearlyn, Jevetta, J.D., Billy and Fred will be bringing their band with them!
