Jesus, in turn, is amazed that they have no faith in him because they know his origins, not because of any fault with his teaching or ministry. As with many of Mark s passages, we get a rather intimate glimpse here of the human part of Jesus two fold nature. To reinforce his point, Mark tells of Jesus return to his native place, and further points out that he is in the midst of his own family members there. From the very people he expected the most, Jesus received the least. In the day of the Gospel s writing, Mark was attempting to illustrate a lesson to the house of Israel: the God of the covenant expected the greatest faith from the house of Israel, but often received the least. This is a good source for reflection on our part, we who are Jesus followers today. For the wisdom of Christ to continue and for our lives to be seen as signs of his power, he must expect and be able to find great faith among us. Will he? Can he? Does he? Or is he, once again, amazed by its absence? Copyright J. S. Paluch

3 WAITING Our Lord prefers to wait for the sinner for years rather than keep the sinner waiting one instant. St. Peter Julian Eymard VBS Week Teen ACTS THIS WEEK AT ST. The Council singled out praiseworthy customs and hoped they would be retained. The Second Vatican Council likewise asked for a careful evaluation of customs, admitting that not everything about wedding practice is praiseworthy. In our revised liturgy, all of the prayers consistently stress the equality of the partners. Some familiar customs do not match this insight. Often, the groom remains hidden in a sacristy while the bride, accompanied only by her father, enters with her attendants. This is hardly equality, especially if it appears that her father is giving her away to her husband. This is a familiar enough scene, but increasingly couples are called to a different practice. Symbols and signs carry and communicate meaning. The challenge for couples today is to match the meaning to the symbol, and for the couple to be authentic in all they do and say on the day of their wedding. Having bride and groom both take part fully and equally in the entrance procession is exactly the kind of praiseworthy practice we ve been looking for! Rev. James Field, Copyright J.S. Paluch Co. The Joy of the Gospel : Faith Working Through Love Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time He was amazed at their lack of faith! During the times of the prophets in the Old Testament and in Jesus' time on earth, the people often refused to believe that God's messenger was in their midst. In our world today, how often do we ignore the obvious in order to cling to distortions of the truth that undermine the Word of God? Jesus summarized the law given to the Israelites and the messages from all the prophets as requiring two things: Love the Lord God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. At baptism we vow to believe in God and to reject Satan. Faith in God brings an obligation to receive the Word and form our lives according to the truth of the Gospel. May our hearts be open to the Spirit and may Love flow through us in service to our neighbor. Eucharistic Adoration VBS Week Teen ACTS Men s ACTS Prayer Group R.C.I.A. St. Edith Stein, referring to women, said, The nation doesn t need what we have. It needs what we are. Our society today needs the feminine gifts of women, and women need to know their true dignity and femininity as designed by God. Do not miss this transforming event. Register at CWCSanAntonio.com pick up a brochure in the parish office (or foyer); or call Pilgrim Center of Hope at (210) If you would like to learn more about this ministry, contact Sylvia Richmond at or via at: Mobile Loaves and Fishes For quite a while, our MLF evening teams have been going solely to Catholic Worker House to serve dinner meals. This is a good thing, but we can expand our mission and feed more people with about the same amount of food. First, we limit the amount of food per client at CWH to one serving. Secondly, we drop a prepared pan of food 5 blocks west of Nolan on Hackberry to Living Stones. They have 10 hungry, very needy and disabled people there. And/or the Third step is to go on to Rescue Mission where there are an additional 30 people hungry for a good meal. From Nolan you stay on Nolan about 3 miles until you get to Quincy. Right on Quincy one block to empty parking lot. Serve from there. If you are not comfortable with going an additional place or two, or your team would just like the comfort of having a core team member show them the place, we can arrange it. This will start in June. Jochelle will be in touch with your team captain to answer questions or help you and set up a core team member to go with you. Just think ---we can feed twice as many people with very little expense of money, time or energy! Thank you!
