If you or someone you know would like a visit, please call the parish office. PRO-LIFE CORNER I m excited about being a Religious Education teacher this fall at Saint Augustine. Am I also a little bit nervous? Of course! But I know that sharing the faith with our kids is one of the most important things I can do in the parish. Studies show that most vibrant and healthy parishes are those that take care of their kids and youth. Please join me this year in passing on our Catholic faith, as one of the best investments you can make in your church. Remember: God has no grandchildren! God s children are born in each generation by our efforts. Father Paul We have treated the loss of our fetuses as a theoretical loss, a sad but necessary loss, as of civilians in wartime. We have not yet realized that the offspring lost are not the enemy s, nor our neighbor s, but our own. And it is not a loss of inert, amorphous tissue, but of a growing being unique in history. Call Valerie at , a program of Catholic Community Services. Theft and Break-in Safety Tips When Your Car is Parked in the Church Parking Lot: Last Sunday, a car was broken into during Mass! Remember: Never leave valuables in your car unattended. If possible leave valuables in your trunk before you park. Cars are less likely to be broken into when they appear empty. Always lock your vehicle and take the keys. Remove all papers with your personal information from your vehicle. Keep your vehicle title safe at home. Never keep a spare key in or on your vehicle. Keep your keys with you. Books of 20 Forever Purple Heart postage stamps are available for sale in the Parish Office. 4 St Augustine Joins 4th of July Parade To honor Our Lady Of Fatima And Pray for PEACE EVERYONE WELCOME To facilitate participation for those who need assistance we will have: A bus leaving church at 10 am for those who can walk in the parade A 2nd bus for those who wish to ride in the bus in the parade leaving the church at 10:30 am All others should assemble at the Marina by 10:30 Using the Regatta Street entrance Attire: white top and blue or dark pants Bring a rosary

6 Gary Wallin Memorial Please Donate to the Gary Wallin Memorial Benches to be placed at Oak Harbor High School. The Oak Harbor Kiwanis Club is accepng donaons to fund two eight foot benches to be installed in the front of the Oak Harbor High School in memory of Gary Wallin. If you would like to donate please make your check to Oak Harbor Kiwanis, note your donaon for Gary Wallin Memorial and mail your donaon to PO Box 714, Oak Harbor, WA by July 31st. All donaons that exceed the cost of the benches will be donated to Oak Harbor Key Club in Memory of Gary Wallin. If you have any Queson, please ask Joshua Blackmer at (360) or Gary devoted his Life to helping and serving others. He was a role model for many, a respected business man, a community leader and dedicated volunteer. Gary Wallin was a true community servant. He wore many hats during his lifeme, all of which were devoted to making Oak Harbor a be:er place to live. He was the most kind, gentle, and caring man you could ever meet. He was devoted to empowering children, a Kiwanian, a 15-year school board member, and a devoted volunteer to our schools for 40 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Help House, was a volunteer fireman, EMT, a first aid and CPR instructor, and was the founder of Wallin Ambulance Service. He was always available to help families grieving from the loss of a relave during his long career with Burley Funeral Chapel and most recently his own company Wallin Funeral Home.

7 PARISH HEALTH MINISTRY HINTS WHAT S IN YOUR WALLET? Everyone should have a basic list on hand that provides crical informaon in case of an accident. This dated list, headed EMERGENCY INFORMATION, should include: Medicaons being taken and dosages Over the counter drugs taken regularly Your doctor s name and phone number(s) Your emergency contact, name and number(s) List any surgeries (dates) and chronic condions Keep the list in your wallet behind your driver s license and update it anyme a new prescripon is given. You may also want to note I am a Catholic. WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO? OUTDATED MEDICATIONS Please do NOT put any outdated or unused medicine, in your toilet, drain, or trash. This can all leach into the water table. The Oak Harbor Police Department maintains a drop-box in their lobby where prescripon drugs can be dropped off daily. Can t get there ask a friend to help. DO YOU KNOW THE 8X8 RULE? As the weather gets warmer more me may be spent in the yard or garden, Spring cleaning, walking or hiking, or just taking in the sun (yes, it will be seen again). When you are exercising in any way it is important to stay hydrated. That s where the 8X8 rule comes in to play. Plan on drinking eight 8 oz. glasses of fluid every day. Dehydraon is an enemy of the maturing body so think (AND DRINK) fluids and enjoy the good weather. IT S ALL ABOUT BALANCE: FALLS & FITNESS Balance is not to be taken lightly and as people grow older we need to work to maintain it. Over 65% of the EMT calls on Whidbey Island involve older adults and falls. Falls lead to more falls, broken bones, etc. THE CURE: EXERCISE. St. Augusne s own Fitness Group offers an opportunity to enjoy companionship and fun while developing beber balance. The FREE program is offered at 4:30 Tuesdays and 4:45 on Thursdays.
