1 Series: The Blood of Jesus Title: The Supremacy Of The Blood This morning we re going to conclude our miniseries on The Blood of Jesus. So far we looked at: The Significance of the Blood It s amazing to consider the significance of the blood of Jesus beginning in Genesis, as the very beginning of time in a garden and woven all throughout time, until the end of time as we know it, we see the significance of blood as the only means by which sin is forgiven and man s relationship with God is restored! Leviticus 17:11 (ESV) 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. John 6:53 56 (ESV) 53 So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. So we saw the significance of the Blood and then last week we looked at the sufficiency of the blood, namely in the area of our salvation! We saw that it is the blood of Jesus that Justifies us frees us from the penalty of sin! Sanctifies. frees us from the power of sin! Glorifies frees us from the presence of sin! So we saw the Significance, the Sufficiency and today, we see the Supremacy of the blood of Jesus! The word supremacy carries with it the idea of being superior to all others in the area of power and authority! And I want to close out this series by looking at how The blood of Jesus is superior, more powerful, more authoritative than everything that was working against us! The Blood of Jesus is the FINAL WORD that reconciles us back to God, it is the Final WORD against everything that works against us and we ll take a look at that in 4 areas The Supremacy, or the Power of the Blood: 1 of 6

2 1. Saves us from our sins! At the expense of sounding redundant on this subject from the past few weeks, we must recognize that the biggest and indeed only issue that exists between Creator and creation is this small matter of sin! If it wasn t for sin, we d all still be running around naked in a garden! If it wasn t for sin, there d be no hatred, no pain, no tears, no heartache Jesus would ve never had to come and shed his blood on the cross for us Sin is what separates man from God! Isaiah 59:1 2 (ESV) 59 Behold, the Lord s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. Romans 5:12 (ESV) 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned Romans 6:23 (ESV) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. I know I don t need to build a big apologetic to show you the impact of sin in your life but I want to raise your awareness of serious sin really is! We live in a culture where sin is celebrated and advertised (Sin City) no matter how light the world may take sin, God doesn t take it lightly However, its important to note that as destructive, disgusting and dividing as sin is the blood of Jesus is Supreme, powerful of its destructive influence! The Blood of Jesus destroys the penalty, power and pollution of sin over our lives! 2 of 6

3 1 John 1:7 (ESV) 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. The Supremacy of the Blood of Jesus Saves us from our Sin! 2. It Secures Our Salvation We all know that idea of a monetary transaction! We ve all purchased something at one time or another we see something we like, we want it we gather the necessary funds and we make the purchase we pay the price and that which wasn t ours is NOW OURS because we paid the price to attain Now, its ours! Nobody can take it from us, it has been purchased Revelation 5:9 (ESV) 9 And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 1 Corinthians 6:19 20 (ESV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. You see, the Blood of Jesus secures our salvation because what took place on the cross was not a trade my life for his when a trade takes place, there s negotiation made between two parties that intend to walk away with a fair deal there was nothing fair about this trade! There was nothing equal about his life for mine what took place on Calvary was not a trade, but a purchase! He owns me! I am His. and because I am his. He is going to keep and care for me as His own that s why Paul was able to say with confidence: Philippians 1:6 (ESV) 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Jude (ESV) 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through 3 of 6

4 Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. The Blood of Jesus Saves Us From Sin Secures Our Salvation 3. Saturates us in His love and grace! 1 Peter 1:18 21 (ESV) 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. This is all about the grace and love of God shed abroad for us! John 15:13 (ESV) 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. I said earlier, that the Blood of Jesus is the FINAL Word against those things that work against us let me tell you what was working against us We were the enemies of God We were sinners We were strangers and aliens, foreigners to God s kingdom We were not a people We were the object of God s wrath We were separated, lost, hopeless, disconnected and without a future But the Blood of Jesus is Supreme over all those things!! Colossians 2:13 15 (ESV) 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Instead of receiving the just payment for our sins, God didn t give us what we deserve He gave us what we needed what we didn t deserve as he took upon himself the penalty for our sin purchased us and saturated us in his love and grace! The blood of Jesus: Saves us from our sin 4 of 6

5 Secures our Salvation Saturates us in his love and grace 4. Shattered the power of Satan over my life! The blood of Jesus Christ SHATTERED notice, that s past tense not will shatter, not can shatter not if you empty the right kind of terminology it will shatter The blood of Jesus SHATTERED the power of Satan over my life! It so important to understand that Satan is a defeated enemy! The power he had over you life was lost when you were purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ! I think one of the greatest strategies of the enemy in distracting Christians is to get them to have an unbalanced view of Satans power in their life! When we talk about the subject of the blood of Jesus, I recognize that many of you, like me have come from different environments where you were taught to PLEAD the blood of Jesus over your life, your finances, your children s life somewhere, not in the word of God, a formula was put in motion, that if you say the right words Satan has to leave you alone! The problem is, I don t see that anywhere in scripture! Look at what James says: James 4:7 8b (ESV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you 1 Peter 5:8 9 (ESV) 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. So pastor, are you saying that we don t have to fight against the devil, all we need to do is resist him and surrender to God YES! Satan s power over your life is past tense It s been shattered by the blood of Jesus! You need not plead for something you already HAVE!! Having said that, I don t have a problem with the terminology of pleading the blood, so long as we understand that we are not BEGGING God For the Blood to defeat Satan 5 of 6

6 that s already been accomplished we in warfare prayers can empty the blood, declare the blood, recognize that the blood of Jesus ensures my protections and peace and future in God! yeah, but what about the Revelation verse Revelation 12:11 (ESV) 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. love that verse but the they that conquered Satan by the blood of the lamb takes place not now in our current reality but this takes place After the rapture of the church, during the tribulation period when Satan is thrown out of the heavens and onto the earth, just prior to the second coming of Christ where he will set up his millennial reign! But we have ALREADY conquered Him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony what testimony? The applied blood of Jesus Christ to our lives that shatters the power of Satan over my live! The Supremacy of the Blood of Christ: 1. Saves me from my Sins 2. Secures My Salvation 3. Saturates me in His Love and grace 4. Shatters the power of Satan over my life! 6 of 6
