1 The Most Holy Trinity May 22, 2016 ST. PIUS X PARISH E. 13th Place, Aurora, CO, Office: Fax: Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30-5:00 pm STPIUSXPARISH.ORG & STPIUSXSCHOOL.NET School: FELLOWSHIP OF CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY STUDENTS (a.k.a. FOCUS) Our young generation is a generation in crisis of identity, of purpose and of belief. Faced with so many distractions, acts of violence, empty pleasures and a loss of faith in God, they are losing hope. For the sake of so many souls, the joyful message of Jesus Christ s life and salvation needs to be shared, now more than ever. Recognizing the significant impact the college years have on a young person s future, Curtis Martin founded the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, starting with just two missionaries at Benedictine College in Later that same year, Curtis was blessed with the opportunity to meet Pope St. John Paul II and to share his vision for FOCUS: a chance for every student to know and feel known, loved and cared for by Jesus Christ. His Holiness listened carefully, and in response he simply told Curtis, Be soldiers. Encouraged and driven by Pope St. John Paul II s call to a New Evangelization and encouraged with steadfast hope to change the culture for Christ, FOCUS has forged ahead into the battlefield. FOCUS missionaries have spread the gospel message to tens of thousands of college students through on-campus outreach, Bible studies, discipleship, mission trips, national conferences and more. Today, FOCUS continues to encourage young people to pursue truth and meaning in their lives, to invest in relationships with Jesus Christ and their fellow students. Their story is and remains the same: through God s mercy, FOCUS missionaries will continue to help young people go and share the good news to everyone they meet, bringing Christ to the world and transforming the world through Christ. Each of us is called to share Jesus Christ no matter where we are. FOCUS missionaries answer that call by going to college and university campuses across the country, giving freely and joyfully of themselves to invite students onto the journey to Christ s Kingdom. Their approach is Win, Build, Send: they win the hearts of college students, build them up in the faith and send them out into the world. Partnering with chaplains and campus ministers, FOCUS missionaries go out to colleges and universities to meet students where they are: in the dorms, on the field, at the student union and in every corner of campus. Through outreach events and one-on-one conversations, students make meaningful connections with members of Christ s body growing in friendships, sharing life and coming together in authentic community. Through Bible studies, prayer, sacraments, service opportunities, mission trips and national conferences, missionaries invest deeply in students lives and build them up in the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith, sharing with them the joy of the gospel. By building students in faith, missionaries also raise up students to become leaders in evangelization, teaching them how to serve as missionary disciples and to lead others to Christ.

3 Today s Readings First Reading Before anything was created, the wisdom of God was brought forth (Proverbs 8:22-31). Psalm O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8). Second Reading God s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us (Romans 5:1-5). Gospel Everything that the Father has is mine; the Spirit will take from what is mine and declare it to you (John 16:12-15). Readings for the week Monday: 1 Pt 1:3-9; Ps 111:1-2, 5-6, 9-10c; Mk 10:17-27 Tuesday: 1 Pt 1:10-16; Ps 98:1-4; Mk 10:28-31 Wednesday: 1 Pt 1:18-25; Ps 147:12-15, 19-20; Mk 10:32-45 Thursday: 1 Pt 2:2-5, 9-12; Ps 100:2-5; Mk 10:46-52 Friday: 1 Pt 4:7-13; Ps 96:10-13; Mk 11:11-26 Saturday: Jude 17, 20b-25; Ps 63:2-6; Mk 11:27-33 Sunday: Gn 14:18-20; Ps 110:1-4; 1 Cor 11:23-26; Lk 9:11b-17 THE PATH TO THE NEW EVANGELIZATION A sense of deep communion with the rest of nature cannot be real if our hearts lack tenderness, compassion and concern for our fellow human beings. It is clearly inconsistent to combat trafficking in endangered species while remaining completely indifferent to human trafficking, unconcerned about the poor, or undertaking to destroy another human being deemed unwanted. This compromises the very meaning of our struggle for the sake of the environment. It is no coincidence that, in the canticle in which Saint Francis praises God for his creatures, he goes on to say: Praised be you my Lord, through those who give pardon for your love. Everything is connected. Concern for the environment thus needs to be joined to a sincere love for our fellow human beings and an unwavering commitment to resolving the problems of society. Many believe this symbolizes the overabundance of grace Jesus gives to the couples in the sacrament of matrimony. Allow God to strengthen, renew, rekindle, and even transform your marriage sacrament. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are: July 15-17, Radisson Aurora / September 16-18, Radisson Aurora Questions? Feel free to contact Brenda & Gary Granger: : grangers@northerncoloradome.org SOCIAL MINISTRIES We need your help!!! The before and after school program, better known as Extended Day is open in the morning before school and in the afternoon after school for parents that work early or late. We also stay open full time in the summer for a Summer Camp program for the children of St. Pius X School. We do crafts, activity books, field trips, pool trips, lunch in the park, water days, and so many more fun activities; but we need your help in raising money to continue having fun activities for the kids. If you could help us by saving ALL of your aluminum recycling, then bring them with you when you come to church and drop them off in the recycle container located in the south east parking lot by the playground retaining wall. We really appreciate your help and contribution to our program!!! If you suddenly learned you only had 6 months to live, how would you spend your final days? Aunt Catherine lived a full life and loved to tell us stories when we were kids. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer s, her stories seemed lost forever. In the nursing home, she just became a number in the waiting room of life. Hospice brought her stories back to life. Divine Mercy Supportive Care is the Archdiocese of Denver s Catholic Hospice Apostolate offering a range of services to help patients and their families from the time of diagnosis through the grief and bereavement process. If you have questions about hospice or palliative care and the resources available for your family, please call (303) , to info@dmsci.org or visitwww.dmsci.org.

ARCHBISHOP S CATHOLIC APPEAL Every gift to the 2016 Archbishop s Catholic Appeal will play an essential role in advancing the Kingdom of God on earth especially in his vineyard of northern Colorado. Whether it s $100 or $500 or $5,000, all gifts are genuinely needed and will be invested prudently in the works of our Church for the benefit of others. Let your donation be a living testament of your desire to make disciples for Christ. When considering your level of participation, always remember that our Lord will not be outdone in generosity. Please visit or call DID YOU KNOW In the early 1960s the Knights of Columbus started a continuing effort over the years to KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS as a counter to the increasingly secular approach to the holy season. Council has supported the program since we were first chartered in the parish over 25 years ago. This year the Council has been offering parishioners the chance to purchase display magnets with a manger scene or lawn signs with the KEEP CHRIST IN CHRIST- MAS message. The Knights always welcome new members. If you are interested in joining an organization with over 200 members in Queen of Peace and Saint Pius parishes contact George Jackson at or gljacks@msn.com. Where There's a Will... July Parents as you try to finalize your kids summer schedule make sure to save the date for Totus Tuus Kids Summer Catholic Camp. Totus Tuus is coming July The Elementary camp will be in the daytime and the middle school camp will be in the evening. Needs HOST FAMILIES Our Totus Tuus instructors (two men/two women) will come from Catholic colleges outside of Colorado. They will need a place to stay for 6-7 nights from July 15 th to July 23 rd (and possibly 23 rd ). The Program keeps costs down by having the instructors stay in the homes of parishioners during their week at each parish. We need two families who are willing to host two of the instructors during their stay at St. Pius which includes providing room and board for that one week. If you can help, please contact Connor at the Parish Office. IRA Charitable Rollover is now a Permanent Law. Each IRA owner over age 70½ may make a transfer of up to $100,000 per year to a qualified charity. IRA charitable rollovers are tax-free and not included in adjusted gross income. An IRA charitable rollover may fulfill part or all of your required minimum distribution (RMD). To learn how you and the Church can benefit, contact Jean Finegan at The Catholic Foundation at Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6
