It is the night of our dear Savior s birth! Long may the world, in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices! For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn! Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night divine! O night, oh night divine! These are just a few of some very popular Christmas songs one would usually hear during the Christmas season. Really read through those lyrics Another song, that you may or may not be familiar with, but is one of my most favorite Christmas songs is called One Wintry Night by David Phelps. Some of the lyrics go like this: One wintry night the starry universe went whirling upside down, and everything that was was not the same! One wintry night a supernatural birth left Heaven and earth spellbound as the mysterious Omniscient took a name! Darkness fled from light! Wrong was made right! In just one wintry night! --Don t you know the angels were breathless, as He stepped down off His throne...into cosmos His own hands had made! Ooooh! Don t you know the darkness protested as it s reign was overthrown! And victory was declared with love s display! One wintry Night! These lyrics, along with the above lyrics and other Christmas songs about Christ s birth give me goosebumps! Thinking about that night the birth of a very special baby set a course in motion that would change us! That night, sin and darkness lost! And we were given the most precious gift we could ever receive! Next time you are singing Christmas carols, really think about the words! Thank God for letting His son be born among us, so that 3 decades later, Jesus would pay the ultimate price for our souls! Amen! Merry CHRISTmas, Amanda Ely

3 Matthew 25:37-40 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. The Head Start Kids Pantry is an ongoing project, and we hope to continue to support the children and families of Head Start This program is voluntary, and families return a form indicating they are interested in participating. Upon receiving the form, children will receive a bag of food on a bi-weekly basis. We are currently serving 44 children in our community and more than 40 families. So far this school year, we have packed 176 bags of food. You can support the program in the following ways: 1. Pray! for the families, for the children, and for open doors. 2. Donate food: The list of needed food items is located on the table in the foyer as well as a few example items. Our aim is to provide equitable bags for the children. The items in the list are type and size specific for that reason. 3. Monetary Donations: Let us do the shopping! If you'd like to support but would rather not shop, you can donate funds toward the Kid's Pantry. Please make checks payable to Calvary Community Church and write "KID'S PANTRY" in the memo line. 4. SHOP!: We Need people to shop for pantry items. will be provided via a sign-up. food pantry account. 5 A special Thank You to everyone who helped out with Operation Christmas Child, whether dropping off items, filling boxes, or volunteering for drop-off! *Calvary had 181 boxes this year, up from 173 last year. *The Drop Off Center crated 433 boxes, slightly down from 473 last year. *Several new groups dropped off boxes and three large groups did not drop off this year. *Crates were safely delivered to Lincoln, have been processed through Denver and will be going to Mexico, Central and South America. *Thank you to all who helped. Because of you 11 million children will hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. 6 Paradise Wildfire Response In what has amounted to the deadliest wildfire in California history, 90 percent of Paradise, CA has been destroyed. More than 7,600 single-family homes and 260 commercial structures burnt to the ground. Forty-eight lives lost and hundreds more missing. Eighty homes of EFCA congregants were destroyed by the fire, leaving just two families from Paradise EFC with homes to which to return. Still, by the grace of God, all congregants lives were spared. We re responding, but we need your help. Along with the physical restoration, the Crisis Response team is focusing on trauma care- providing support and counseling to those who experienced this disaster firsthand. PRAY For God s peace, comfort, hope, and restoration to cover Pastor Art Worthington, Paradise EFC and all those affected by the fire in the Paradise community. For God s wisdom, guidance, and strength for those on the ground responding from Crisis Response and the EFCA Western District. For unity, both to Northern California and across our EFCA movement, as we seek to help our neighbors recover from the disaster. For God to b glorified and the gospel to be spread in the face of this devastating fire. GIVE After Hurricane Harvey hit, we raised over $1.6 million in relief funds, by the grace of God. 7 Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our annual Harvest Feast! Everything tasted wonderful and we had a great turnout! Thank you to the ladies who worked hard preparing the turkeys, stuffing, and mashed potatoes! Thank you Pastor Don for the Thanksgiving message! And thank you to Jane Moore for snapping a few pictures of the evening!

8 ReCharge Young Adult Ministry Ages Join us every Sunday, during the Sunday School hour at 9AM in the Lighthouse Room and be refreshed, restored, and revitalized in conviction, vision, and passion for the Lord. Young(er) Couples We will be continuing to meet every 2nd and 4th Sunday nights for Bible Study at Calvary from 6pm-8pm and will continue meeting through mid-april. We will be doing a video study on The God Who is There. The speaker (D.A. Carson) will shore up what we believe as Christians and why we believe it in a profound way. This is a great series for anyone wanting to learn more about the God of the Bible. Invite family members, coworkers neighbors, ad friends to join us! Every quarter, we will have a fun fellowship gathering. Watch for more details on those as they approach. Childcare Needed: Anyone out there interested in serving the parents of our church family by providing childcare on the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of September through April from 6pm-8pm at Calvary?
