1 REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BACHEOR OF THEOLOGY The requirements for this degree are the successful completion of the prescribed curriculum as outlined or with substitution of courses as may be approved by the Academic Dean and President. 7 BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY Description of Courses OLD TESTAMESNT SURVEY. (3HRS) A study of the history, literature, and theo-philosophical concepts presented in the Old Testament PENTATEUCH. (3HRS) A survey of the material in the first five books of the Old Testament. PROPHETS. (3HRS) A study of the prophetic movement in Israel from its origins in the post-exilic period. OLD TESTAMENT THEOLOGY. (3HRS) A study of the Old Testament views of God, man, history, sin and salvation. HISTORICAL BOOKS. (3HRS) A study of Joshua through Esther, dealing with the problems of conquering and setting Canaan, the periods of the united and divided kingdoms, and the return following the exile. PSALMS. (3HRS) A study of the origin and liturgical use of selected Psalms with attention to their form and content. LIFE OF THE PATRIARCHS. (3HRS) A bird s eye view of the life and times of the Patriarchs. NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY. (3HRS) Introduction to the history, literature, and theology of the New Testament. LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF CHRIST. (3HRS) This is a detailed study of the actual events in the life of Jesus Christ. A harmony of the Gospels is studied and the various problems of Gospel history are discussed. LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF PAUL. (3HRS) An examination of the ministry of the Apostle Paul based on Acts and Paul s letters. BOOK OF ACTS. (3HRS) A verse by verse analysis of the English text giving particular attention to the history of the liberation of the Gospel and the world interest of the New Testament faith.
8 GOSPEL OF JOHN. (3HRS) Analysis, exegesis, and exposition of the fourth Gospel. NEW TESTAMENT THEOLOGY. (3HRS) Interpretation of the early church s understanding of the mission and message of Jesus and the character of the Christian proclamation. CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE. (3HRS) A survey of the major doctrines of the Christian faith. SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY. (3HRS) A systematic study of the principal theological doctrines of the Christian faith. CONTEMPORARY THOUGHTS. (3HRS) A survey of the major problems involved in the contemporary attempt to define the nature and meaning of the Christian faith. ESCHATOLOGY. (3HRS) This course presents the Bible account of the future. Topics to be covered are: the rapture, the second coming, the intermediate state, the tribulation, the resurrection, judgment, millennium, and eternal life. HOMILETICS. (3HRS) Examination of the phases preaching plays in the minister s work and the purpose, content, and structure of the sermon. PASTORAL LETTERS. (3HRS) A study of Paul s instructions concerning the challenge, the responsibilities, the qualifications, and the message of the Christian ministry. DENOMINATIONAL LIFE. (3 HRS) This course is designed to give the students an understanding of religious experiences in the changing nature of denominational life in the United States. PERSONAL EVANGELISM. (3 HRS) A study of the philosophy of evangelism, its scriptural basis, and methods of evangelism. Class work includes the study of personal evangelism as well as house-tohouse calling for the local church. HERMENEUTICS. (3 HRS) A study of Biblical Interpretation and terminology.
9 PASTORAL COUNSELING. (3HRS) An intensive stud of typical problems dealt with by counselors-marital conflict, mental illness, divorce, bereavement, delinquency, alcoholism, financial crisis, for example. CULTS, SECTS, AND ISMS. (3HRS) An intensive study of the origin, doctrines and growth of selected Cults and Sects in the USA. CHURCH ADMINISTRATION. (3 HRS) In recognition of the pastor s responsibility as overseer in the local church, this course is designed to prepare for intelligent, scriptural, church-building leadership. FIELD WORK IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. (3 HRS) Training in a student placement program offering practice and pre-professional experience in Christian education. INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY. (3 HRS) Principles underlying the contending views are analyzed in the light of actual systems of thought held by representatives of various views. PHILOSPHY OF RELIGION. (3 HRS) The validity of the Christian faith is considered paramount. Issues such as faith and reason, religious experience, authority of the Bible, meaning of history, modern science, evil and suffering, immorality, etc. HISTORY OF PHILOSOHY. (3 HRS) A historical and critical study of the various systems of thought presented during the Grecian, medieval, and modern periods. INTRODUCTION TO APOCRYHA BOOKS. 10 Having received a strong, well rounded foundation from this program, I felt confident enough to pursue a Master in a specialized area of study in theology. The values, knowledge, and skills attained from the Bachelor of Theology program prepared me to effectively to serve and take this challenge.
