2 Page 2 Pastor s Page Pentecost Sunday Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, HELLO, I MUST BE GOING As many of you have already become aware, Bishop Vann has assigned me to take on the responsibility of running St. Norbert Parish in the city of Orange, effective July 1, It was not a huge surprise to me since, having completed my first 6-year term, I knew that I was up for renewal or reassignment. Even so, it has just started to feel like we ve been hitting our stride here, so the thought of shutting down, packing up, moving and starting all over again somewhere else is a bit daunting. I thank everyone for their kind words of support and their pledges to uphold me in prayer during this time of transition. Since I started out in Orange at Holy Family Cathedral in 1986, I m heading back to my old neighborhood, but like any change, I m sure there will be bumps along the way. I ve never refused any assignment from the bishop, trusting fully in his guidance and seeking to maintain an apostolic spirit, going wherever I m sent. I was very much relieved, however, when I heard that the bishop was sending Fr. Pat Rudolph here to Mission Viejo. I ve known Fr. Pat since our days in seminary together, and I can assure you that he is both a great priest and pastor. You couldn t ask for a more gracious, kind, humble or prayerful man, so I entrust you to his care with total confidence. Likewise, I entrust him to you, hoping that you will give him a warm hearted welcome. It was a privilege and honor to help you finish the work of constructing the new St. Kilian s, and as much as we may grouse about noisy doors, flickering bulbs or leaky walls, it stands as testimony to the faith and generosity of generations who have made this their home. While there is still so much we need to accomplish, I feel as though we re in a very good place to continue growing and striving toward our vision of becoming a light to the world. During my time here, I was indeed blessed to have the support and talent of so many gifted parishioners and staff. I ve never known a place to have so many hardworking, zealous believers who want nothing more than to proclaim Christ in word and deed, and to welcome others into that faith. We have a wealth of gifted and committed people who have brought us to this point, and they will help carry you and Fr. Pat through this next stage in the story of St. Kilian. I take many great memories with me to Orange and will be always grateful to you. Fr. Bruce (P.S. 7 St. Kilian Catholic Church Page 7 Parishes in Collaboration Next weekend, May 21-22, 2016, all people of the Diocese of Orange will have the opportunity to donate to the Parishes in Collaboration Collection. This collection is for the purpose of assisting parishes in the Diocese of Orange that exhibit ongoing needs that cannot be paid for by their ordinary income or have urgent needs (such as repairs and maintenance). All money donated to this collection is put into a restricted fund that will be administered by a group consisting of laity and clergy of the diocese. Parishes with needs as stated above will apply for grants from this fund to be used for their specific needs. Most recently the committee has focused the grants to safety issues including emergency electrical and plumbing repairs. By participating in the Parishes in Collaboration Collection, all people of the Diocese of Orange are helping one another support the works of our parishes that struggle financially.
