3 Dear fellow Jesus-follower, I am excited that you have decided to listen to God through the Bible over these next 30 days! s you meet regularly with God, He will communicate with you. s you respond, you will look a little more like Jesus than before you began. What is? stands for 4 words which describe the process of listening to God through the Bible. You ll be surprised how the act of writing out these four thoughts will allow you to hear more from God. Here s how to do it: 1. cripture - Read the chapter for the day listed on the page. s you read, be alert for one verse that stands out to you more than any others. If there wasn t one that stood out, just pick one verse to meditate on. Write that verse down in this journal, word for word. 2. bservation - Write down what you notice about the verse. For example what is the main point? Who is doing what? You can also try writing out the verse in your own words.

4 Celebration Date: pril 5 3. pplication - Write out in one sentence what you will do in response. tart with I will. Rick Warren has a list of helpful questions: - Is there a in to confess? - Is there a romise to claim? - Is there an ttitude to change? C - Is there a Command to obey? E - Is there an Example to follow? - Is there a rayer to pray? E - Is there an Error to avoid? T - Is there a Truth to believe? - Is there omething to praise God for? 4. rayer - pend a moment talking to God about what is on your mind. Write down what you prayed for. It will build your faith to see how God answers it! Read: Luke 1:68-75 Marked by Grace, astor teve

5 Read: Isaiah 25:1-9 Celebration Date: pril 4 Read: 1 Timothy 4:6-10 ample Devotional February 23 astor Tim Lucas cripture: For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 bservation: In this passage, aul is speaking to his young friend Timothy about the value of growing in godliness. He wants Timothy to know a couple of things about godliness. First, growing in godliness is to be Timothy s chief pursuit because it not only provides benefits for his and our lives on earth, but also because it will yield eternal blessings as well. aul is saying godliness is not just about saying no to or avoiding sin and other unhealthy behaviors; rather it is a consistent pursuit to know, love and serve Jesus. lso, as I begin this journey to grow in godliness, aul uses a metaphor that is similar to physical training and exercise in a gym. Just as growing in physical fitness takes time and energy, growing in godliness is a process as well. ometimes I may be tempted to get discouraged or frustrated at my lack of spiritual growth, but aul assures me in verse 10 that my hope is set on the living God who is faithful. s a result of my relationship with Christ, I am set free to grow in godliness knowing that my acceptance with God does not waver or fade. pplication: s I take this journey of spiritual growth in godliness, I ll need a plan and strategy to help. Whenever I begin any sort of workout regimen, I know that having a plan and goals are essential. I ll need a specific time and place where I can sit down and spend time with God each day as I strive to grow tronger. I am asking God to help me grow in specific ways. rayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your love, grace and mercy. Thank you for the gift of your son so that I could be brought back into a perfect relationship with you. God I ask that you would give me strength and energy over these next six weeks to grow in godliness and become stronger in my identity and character as your child. May I hear your voice clearly and often. rotect me from discouragement and distraction. May my growth in godliness glorify you and point others to who you are. Come Lord Jesus.

6 Devotional FQs Celebration Date: pril 3 What do I do if I don t understand what I ve read? sk God in prayer to help you understand. lso, you can ask a fellow believer for their take. Try someone in your small group. Read: 1 Chronicles 16:8-36 What happens if I miss some days? What happens if you miss a meal? Catch the next one! What version of the Bible should I read? ne that you can understand. We use the New International Version (NIV) at weekend services, but there are many good versions. Note: some versions are translations (like NIV, EV, NB) and some are paraphrases (The Message, New Living). Basically, translations are word for word from the original languages. They are particularly good to use for study. araphrases are idea for idea. They are particularly good for devotional reading.

7 Celebration Date: pril 2 Devotional FQs Read: Exodus 15:1-21 How much time should I take? It s better to do a little each day than wait for a large chunk of time to open up. If you are just starting, aim for 15 minutes per day, and build from there as you can.

8 implicity Date: February 23 Celebration Date: pril 1 Read: Luke 18:8-22 cripture: Then come, follow me. Luke 18:22 astor Mike rnold Read: salm 146:1-10 bservation: For some time Luke 18:8-22 used to bother me. The rich ruler in the passage certainly was a good man. He was successful and probably very busy. In this encounter with Jesus the ruler asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. fter some discussion Jesus challenges the ruler to simplify his life. He says, sell everything, give it to the poor, and follow me. t first glance this challenge can seem unfair. Give it all up! Everything! But consider what Jesus was inviting this individual to do. Follow me! pend time with me! Explore this world with me! What an opportunity! There are times in life when our stuff and plans complicate our lives. Jesus calls us to the same simple path: Follow me. pplication: There are times in life when I get ahead of God. If I am honest, there are times when I want Him to fit into my complex life. It is in these moments that Jesus quietly asks, re you willing to follow me? Is there an area of your life that feels too complex? re you willing to stop and follow Jesus? rayer: Lord, please forgive me when I try to fit you into my complex life. Thank you for the adventure that comes when I slow down, simplify my life, and follow you. I trust you to lead me on.

They celebrated every day! (verse 2) The rest of the salm describes some of what Israel celebrated, and what we can celebrate. Verse 9 reminds us God has shown us compassion. Israel repeatedly got in trouble, called out to God, and He responded. Time after time, we have been in need, and the Lord has met us and helped us get through it. We have asked God for help and he has answered. We are not just to be thankful, we are to celebrate! arty! (The Israelite calendar was full of Godordained festivals and parties.) Verse 15 says the Lord has provided food for the Israelites when they needed it; first supernaturally when manna appeared in the desert, and then later through growing crops in their fields. The Lord has provided for our needs, too. o we are to be more than thankful, we are to celebrate! arty with God! pplication: I will have fun remembering how God has had compassion on me by throwing a party (with food and games) with that theme. I will celebrate the goodness of God by regularly enjoying with Him the ways he has been good to me. I will have fun enjoying the food he makes available, thanking him for it. rayer: Lord, help me to enjoy myself with You, and to honor You by celebrating your victories in my life more than I celebrate victories of my sports teams.

The first word is share. aul, the writer of Romans, is calling on us to share. What does it mean to share? It could mean to share our money, time, resources, home, food, clothing or our prayers just to name a few. The point is, look at what we have and then look to others and be open handed and willing to share what we have with others. Who are the recipients of this sharing? aul teaches us that it s the Lord s people who are in need. Most people that I know are in need, even if it s not financial. eople need more than food, clothing and shelter. ometimes they need friendship, love and simply a person to be with them and listen. In other words, sharing with those in need isn t just a material blessing, it could be the need for us to share our friendship with others. The text also mentions the Lord s people. We first look to our church community as God has given us this unique community to be in. Yet, since the Lord created all people, and all people are His since He is the creator, then it s appropriate to expand our definition here to include all people. Lastly, the text teaches us to practice hospitality. In other words, be welcoming and gracious, willing to bring other people into our lives in a dignifying way. pplication: Who do I know that is in need financially or materially? Who do I know that could use a friend? What can I do to live out this verse to the ones I wrote in the blank spaces? rayer: God, my life belongs to you. Here I am. Use me. Give me your eyes to see and your power and grace to minister and love on your people. Help me to be a person who practices hospitality.

17 olitude Date: March 23 Hospitality Date: March 4 Read: Matthew 14:13-24 astor Dale Roddy : Matthew 14:23 fter he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone. Read: 1 eter 4:8-11 : In this passage, we see Jesus both retreating to be with God by Himself, and engaging in ministry with the disciples and the crowds. Just before this, Jesus has gotten bad news, that his close friend John the Baptist has been killed. He goes off to a solitary place to pray. But when he gets there, a crowd has already gathered. Rather than running from them, he embraces them, and miraculously feeds 5,000 people. fter he dismisses the crowd, he goes up on a mountainside to pray by himself. Jesus understood that the demands of life and ministry were intense, and that He couldn't do it effectively without taking time to receive renewal and strength from God the Father. : I will make time and space to be alone with God. In the next week, I will plan 1/2 day without an agenda to be alone and quiet with you. : God, help me to make the time in my schedule and life to be alone with you - at least 1/2 day without an agenda. To put aside the constant demands of life, the interruptions that never seem to end, and the craziness of my schedule. Renew me during that time. Recharge my soul, and remind me of your love for me. Help me Lord to experience your peace and love. Then, let me return to life and the people around me, equipped with Your love and power. men

22 Read Luke 11:1-13 rayer Date: March 9 astor Leo Vollbracht : ne day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of His disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples. Luke 11:1 : t various times in scripture we see Jesus going away to pray and hear from His father. Here we read of Jesus praying and at least one disciple seems to notice him. He turns to him and asks, Lord, teach us to pray. The disciples are curious, for some reason, about how Jesus is praying. The disciples have been through a lot with Jesus. They have seen Jesus do many things up to this point. They have seen the works of God in their midst. Maybe they saw the connection between Jesus miracles and his devotion to the Father. Maybe something about that moment brought to mind during their recent mission having been sent by Christ. Whatever the reason was they wanted training and instruction in how to pray as they saw Jesus doing. : There are so many things I look to and ask for of Christ: provision, guidance, power, hope, grace, forgiveness the list goes on. ne thing about Jesus I sometimes miss is his example. Jesus was/is/will forever be God. nd while on this Earth, he set an example, he prayed to the father. He looked to his source and he prayed. There is a reason for this. Jesus tells the disciples some of those reasons later on in this text. sk and it will be given to you; seek and you will find. everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds. Jesus knows that being connected to the source of all things is the only way to live a fruitful life in/for the kingdom of God. The disciples were intrigued by this, they wanted to know more and so they asked, and their God answered. I must look to the example of Christ and in this example see his devotion to prayer. I should follow the model of the disciples; see that God himself prayed and realize how much I should be praying. : Father, I look to the example of your on and my avior Jesus and see his devotion to you through work, life, and prayer. God, I thank you for coming to this Earth to set a perfect example for me. I pray that your kingdom will break through in this world and that I, through loving and obeying you, may be a part of your perfect plan. I thank you for the example of Jesus through scripture; I claim his blood for my forgiveness and pray for the courage and heart to forgive those around me. I look to you for strength and fortitude to continue to say yes to you and no to the darkness. In your name I pray these things! men. Read: 1 eter 5:2-7 ubmission Date: March 18

BERVTIN: This verse gives us a command. It s not a suggestion. ubmit to each other. ne thing that stands out is that when we submit to one another, we are doing it for the sake of Christ - out of reverence for him. I don t think this passage is demanding that we allow others to rule over us in a domineering way; instead, I believe it is teaching us to put the needs and welfare of others in front of our own needs. It s only because of Jesus that we are capable of submitting to one another. Without Christ leading and directing our lives, not one of us would be willing or able to submit to one another and practice genuine humility. Jesus is the model of submission and the agent who activates submission in our lives. LICTIN: This is a verse that cannot be perfected in this lifetime. My hope is that each day I am better at submitting to Christ than I was the day before. I m reminded of when Jesus said it is easy to pray for and to love our friends, but difficult to pray for and to love our enemies. It s easy to submit to people I like; but, it s challenging to submit to others - especially those who are closest to me. I want Jesus to make me care more for the needs of others than my own; I want to learn to put the needs of my family, spouse, and coworkers in front of mine. I m going to practice this verse by reminding myself that every time I submit and put others ahead of me, I am submitting to Jesus. RYER: Lord, make me more like Jesus. Teach me the way of humility and putting others first. how me today who I need to make a priority to serve and to submit to.
