Merry Christmas! Welcome to our Joy Story Adventure! Together we re going to step into The Joy Store, the ultimate toy store where the toys are priceless and the joy is free! The JOY we will discover is like a tapestry woven by the Scarlet Thread that shows us a picture painted by God Himself. Sound like a mystery? Well it is! A tapestry is a woven picture. It takes hundreds of different colored threads woven together to create one. The backside of the tapestry looks like a mess with tangles and knots and no pattern like a mystery. But as the threads are woven together, a beautiful picture appears on the front. Each week with this devotional book, we will solve the mystery in each song. As we do, another piece of the tapestry will become visible to us until the picture is complete by the end of our adventure. God will paint His picture on our hearts and we ll discover that God always gives power to those who will tell His story. What an AWESOME God! Now, here s what you need to do to get in on all the fun. Find a time each day to solve the mystery of the tapestry for that day. You ll learn about one song each week. Have mom or dad sign the bottom of each page when you have finished and memorized the mystery verse for that song. You must say your mystery verse by heart for mom or dad before they can sign your page. Remember, you and your parents are on your honor! Every time you show a completed and signed page to one of your choir workers, you get a piece of the tapestry to paste on the mystery picture at the back of this book. You ll have to figure out how to arrange the pieces so that the picture is clear. When you have collected all the pieces, your tapestry will be complete and God will give you His own special Christmas message. You also get 20 points for each completed lesson; and 10 points every time you say one of your mystery verses. The girl and guy in each choir with the highest points will win a special prize. At the end of our adventure, you will bring your completed book with all the pages signed by your parent to our Staging Rehearsal, Friday, November 30, Every Kingdom Kid who finishes the Devo Book will get a special keepsake pin to wear during the musical. How cool is that! But even more awesome, you and your family have been on an adventure with Jesus, hiding priceless truths in your hearts forever! I can hardly wait to see what God will do! So grab your Bible and start solving the mystery! Singing for Jesus, Mrs. Teri 1

ABOUT THE AUTHOR "MISS NANCY" BRANT Miss Nancy Brant led the Kingdom Kidz at First Baptist Church Jacksonville for 25 years. So much of what we do today is because of her example and the foundation she laid. Many of our directors grew up under her leadership and several of the Kingdom Kidz leaders and directors are doing what they do today because of her influence. We are honored to be able continue to learn from her through this musical (script, songs, and devotion), a message that shares the Gospel of Jesus so clearly. Miss Nancy retired in 2009 and is enjoying her time with family especially her grandchildren. 2

TAPESTRY #1 THE JOY STORE Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! PSALM 100:1-2 DAY 1 The Joy Store is a very unusual toy store. Miss Joy has wonderful toys that actually step down from their shelves to tell The Joy Story to all their customers. Go to the Joy Story Lyrics in the back of your Devo book. Read the lyrics to the 1st verse of The Joy Store. There s a mystery here that we need to solve. Have you ever wanted a toy so badly that you just couldn t be happy until you had it? When you got it, how long did your joy last? Do you still have the joy that it brought you or was the joy temporary? Our song says, discover a that will last. Does that mean the joy is temporary or eternal? DAY 2 Read Psalm 16:11. You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. The Your in this verse means God. When we spend time with God, is the joy that He gives us temporary like toys or everlasting like His love? DAY 3 What does that tell us about what should be important to us and how we should spend our time? Read the chorus to the song. At the Joy Store, Miss Joy and the toys are singing and full of joy. What message do you think they are singing? They call their message The Joy Story. They have discovered that sharing The Joy Story brings joy to them AND joy! 4

How cool is THAT! Read the lyrics of verse 2 of The Joy Store. The song says, our best gift is! Have you ever been to a toy store where the toys are free? If the Joy Store gift isn t free toys, what could it be? DAY 4 Read Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the of God, not a result of works, so that no one can boast. What is the gift in this verse? Can you earn or buy this gift? That makes the gift! Do you think telling people about God s free gift could be what The Joy Story is about? Read John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. The song says, The Joy Story will tell.. What do you think His plan might be? The song says Christmas is bringing to. DAY 5 The Bible verse tells us that we know God loves us because He gave us something we did not earn or deserve. What was it? Memorize your mystery verse now that you know why you sing! Then say it for your parents Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! PSALM 100:1-2 5

Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, Thank You that Your love is not based on who I am or what I do, but who YOU are and what YOU say. Thank You that Your love is a free gift that I can never be good enough to earn or bad enough to lose. Your love is FREE and FOREVER! I love You, God. In Jesus name, amen. 7 TAPESTRY #2 FAO SCHMALTZ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. MATTHEW 6:33 DAY 1 This is just a fun song to introduce FAO Schmaltz. He is the Mega Toy Store owner from New York city who has just bought The Joy Store lease and wants to make lots of changes and lots of money. He thinks that s what Christmas is all about! Is he right? Can you think of a word that describes someone who only thinks about money and never has enough of it? The Bible calls this person greedy or covetous. Luke 12:15 says, Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. DAY 2 The Bible has a lot to say about how we handle money. Read 1 Timothy 6:6-10: But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wondered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. What are the 4 things people who want to get rich fall into? (vs 9) Wow, that sounds scary. Does the Bible say money is the root of all evil? What phrase is left out of that sentence? God is telling us that the problem is not money, but how we feel about money and handle it. God does not want us to be greedy. He wants us to love Him more than things. 7

DAY 3 When God tells us not to do or be something, it is because He loves us and knows what is best for us. Proverbs 15:27 says, Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live. What kind of man brings trouble to his family? FAO is not really a bad person. It s just that no one has ever told him about Jesus so he has set his heart on the toys or things of this world. What could you tell him to set him straight? Read Matthew 6:19-21: Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Write down what you would tell FAO about his wealth. Is that something that we should remember too? DAY 4 I m so glad FAO has come to The Joy Store so Miss Joy and the toys can tell him The Joy Story. He thinks he will be happy if he can make more money, but Matthew 16:26 says, What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?... 1 Timothy 6:17-18: As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share This scripture tells us 2 things we should not do and 4 things we should do so that we can take hold of the life that is truly life. Write them here: We SHOULD NOT We SHOULD

DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verse so you won t be like FAO! Then say it for your parents But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. MATTHEW 6:33 Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, Help me to always love You more than anything else in my life. Keep my heart focused on You and Your word so I will always know what is important to You. Help me find someone in my world who doesn t know You. Give me the courage to invite them to my musical so I can show them what will REALLY bring them JOY YOU! In Jesus name, amen. 10 TAPESTRY #3 THE SCARLET THREAD Beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He (Jesus) interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. LUKE 24:27 DAY 1 Miss Joy begins telling FAO The Joy Story by telling him about that weaves its way through every page of the Bible. The thread ties all the books of the Bible together. Look at the words to this song. What does the scarlet thread weave for us? Read 1 Peter 1:18 & 19: Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. Scarlet is another name for red. What does the color scarlet represent? DAY 2 The scarlet thread tells us that through each line in the Bible, God s design was a who would save us from our sin. His name is. In the song, as the truth unfolds about Jesus, what does it show us? The scarlet thread paints pictures of Jesus in every book of the Bible. Each picture is like a clue to God s mystery. Each picture helps us know Jesus better because it teaches us something about His character. The scriptures and answers below are NOT in the right order. For the next 2 days, look up each scripture and draw a line to match each scripture to the picture of Jesus that you see and then draw a line to what the picture teaches you about Jesus. Exodus 13:21 Shepherd Jesus is our Ruler Psalm 23:1 Prince of Peace Jesus is our Guide Zechariah 9:9 Cloud by Day & Fire by Night Jesus comforts us Isaiah 9:6 King of kings Jesus cares for us 10

DAY 3 Follow the directions from Day #2 for these scriptures: John 8:12 Lion of Judah Jesus is our Guide Revelation 5:5 Light of the World Jesus is Triumphant John 1:1 Living Water Jesus is Wisdom Revelation 22:16 Word of God Jesus is our Guide John 4:14 Bright & Morning Star Jesus is Life to us DAY 4 It has been said that the key to understanding the Bible is to see Jesus on every page. Read your mystery verse again (Luke 24:27). What a powerful story this is: THE greatest Teacher explaining THE greatest truths from THE greatest Book! This verse says that Jesus showed His disciples all the pictures that the Scarlet Thread had painted throughout the Old Testament. He wanted them to see that He was the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophesies about the Messiah. The Bible is history, but it is also His-story! We will spend the next few weeks looking at some of the most beautiful pictures that God painted of Jesus in His Word. It is my prayer for you that the more you understand the Word of God, the more you will want to walk with the God of the Word. Your assignment for today is to ask Jesus to paint His picture on your heart as we work on our musical and to open your eyes to all He desires to be to you. DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verse so you will know the Bible is His story. Then say it for your parents Beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He (Jesus) interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. LUKE 24:27 Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, I m so thankful that You wanted me to find Jesus so much that You put Him on every page of the Bible! Help me to see Jesus and His love for me in every lesson You have for my life. Thank You that He is peace, comfort, strength, wisdom, light, and salvation to me in other words, He is EVERYTHING I will ever need. In Jesus name, amen. 11

TAPESTRY #4 THE WAY Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned ROMANS 5:12 But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ROMANS 5:8 DAY 1 All through the Bible God paints pictures of Jesus for us so we will know He has a plan. Our mystery will be to find the picture of Jesus in this story. In our musical, FAO thinks that Jesus entered the world as a baby at Bethlehem. That s right AND wrong. Jesus entered our world at Christmas, but He was with God when He created the universe. Miss Joy tells FAO that the Christmas story didn t begin with Jesus birthday, but with the very first birthday in the Garden of Eden. Read Genesis 2:7-9 & 15-23: Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. 8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. 18 Then the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him. 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 13

Who had the 1st birthday in the Garden of Eden? and Look at the 1st 2 verses of your song. God gave them everything they could ever need, but He gave them one rule. What was it? DAY 2 What would happen if they broke the rule? Read Genesis 3:1-13: Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, Did God actually say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. 4 But the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, Where are you? 10 And he said, I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself. 11 He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat? 12 The man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate. 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? The woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate. Look at verses 3 & 4 of your song. Did they break God s only rule? Who is the serpent or snake? What lie did Satan tell them to tempt them to disobey God? Read Psalm 119:11 to know how to keep from being tricked ourselves: I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 14

When anyone tells us anything that is different from what God has told us in His Word, who should we believe? Did Adam and Eve know right away that they were wrong? What does the Bible call the wrong things that we do when we disobey? DAY 3 If we will read God s Word and hide His Word in our heart (learning SS memory work, AWANA verses, Mystery verses), that will help us to know what is right. The more we know God s Word, the more we know how God wants us to live. His Word will help us know right from wrong. Read Genesis 3:14-24: 14 The Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. 16 To the woman he said, I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you. 17 And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return. 20 The man called his wife s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. 21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. 22 Then the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. 24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life. Look at verses 5 & 6 of your song. What happened to Adam and Eve s relationship with God when they sinned? 15

Did the devil think he had won when he got Adam and Eve to disobey and separated them from God? Did God have a plan? (God ALWAYS has a plan!) What happened to the devil? The song says he got. Judgment is when the decision is made that something is wrong. Then punishment is given. Is it fair to be punished for doing wrong? Did God have the right to punish the devil? What does the song say we got? Grace is when God does NOT give us what we deserve - punishment - but instead accepts Someone Else s payment for our sin. Genesis 3:21 says that God made for Adam and Eve. That s like leather jackets made from animal skins. Let s talk about why they needed to be covered with the skins. Can a holy God be in the presence of sin? So their sin had to be covered. They did not need the skins when they were first created because they had not. Romans 6:23 says, The wages of is. Their fig leaves were not enough because the fig plant does not die to give you its leaves. DAY 4 Hebrews 9:22 says, without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. Look at verse 7 of The Way. The animal had to his life to pay the price for their sin. God covered Adam & Eve s sin, but they still had to leave the garden and suffer many troubles. Never forget, because of Jesus, God forgives our sins, but sin always has a consequence. Time to solve the mystery. Look at verses 7 & 8 of this song. By giving Adam and Eve a covering of skin (or leather jackets), God was promising to send a Savior who would sacrifice His life to pay for all of man s sin. Who is that Savior? 16

So the coats of skin are a picture of because when He died on the cross, He became our sacrifice and His sinless paid the price for our sin. DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verses now that you have found the joy! Then say them for your parents Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned ROMANS 5:12 But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ROMANS 5:8 Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, Thank You for painting pictures of Jesus in the Bible so I can see Him clearly and love Him more. I m glad You always had a plan to save me. You sent Jesus to be THE WAY for me to have salvation. Thank You that Jesus died to cover my sin so I can have life with You. In Jesus name, amen. 18 TAPESTRY #5 COME ON IN I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. JOHN 10:28 DAY 1 Our mystery is to find the picture of Jesus in the story of Noah and the Ark. I can t wait for you to solve it because I really love what this picture teaches us about Jesus. Read Genesis 6:5-7: 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them. What had happened to the beautiful world that God made? What caused this great change? Sin had changed everything and the Bible says, The Lord. and it Him to His heart. Sin breaks the heart of a holy God who desires the best for us. We should always think about our Father s heart when we are tempted to do wrong. Look at Genesis 6:7 to see the consequence of man s sin. Now read the chorus of the song. Who is giving this invitation? It says love has a plan. Who is love? Does God have a plan to save us? DAY 2 Praise the Lord! Read Genesis 6:8-14, 17-22: 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, I have determined to 18

make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. 17 For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. 21 Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them. 22 Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. Now read the 1st verse of our song. The world was full of sin and only one man was found to be righteous. (Righteous means in right standing with God.) Who was it? Do you think it was easy for Noah to live in a world of sin and be the only one to obey God? I m sure it was unbelievably difficult, but he found favor with God because God honored his.. God looks DOWN in favor on those who look UP to Him in faith! Will God honor you if you stand up to sin and do what s right? My prayer for all of you is that when God looks out over His world, you will be the one He favors because you are obeying His commands. Now read the lyrics to the 2nd verse of our song. Obeying God was no small task. The Bible tells us that the ark was 600 feet long (that s 2 football fields!) and 100 feet wide! It took Noah 120 yrs to build the ark! The song says the ark became Noah s. That word has the same meaning as refuge. Look up both definitions and write them here: HAVEN REFUGE Being inside the ark was like being safe in God s love and protection. By faith, what did Noah have? 19

DAY 3 Now read the lyrics to the 3rd verse of our song. The storm that Noah faced was a world-wide storm that was bigger than any storm or problem we will ever have to face. But we can learn how to handle our storms from Noah. Deuteronomy 33:27a says, The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms Psalm 91:2 says, He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. DAY 4 Look again at the chorus to remember God s plan for you. It says, can take you from My. Read John 10: (Jesus answered them.) 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father s hand. 30 I and the Father are one. Who is talking? In whose hand are you in vs28? In whose hand are you in vs.29? Wow! That s double protection! Take a penny and wrap both of your hands around it. Now go get mom or dad to wrap their hands around your hands. Is the penny safe in there? Verse 29 says that the Father is greater than and He and Jesus are one. Read Romans 8:38 & 39: 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Those verses assure us that we are safe in Jesus love! Read Romans 8:1-2: There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. It s time to solve the mystery. Being in the ark protected Noah and saved him just like being in protects us from what we deserve as sinners. There was only one door into the ark and Jesus is the only way to salvation. So the picture of Jesus is the. 20

DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verse. Then say it for your parents I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. JOHN 10:28 Pray this prayer with your family: Thank You for the picture of Jesus as the ark. Help me to see that I am as safe from all the storms of life in Jesus as Noah was in the ark. Jesus is my haven in a stormy world. Help me to obey You like Noah did. When You look out over Your world, I want You to see that I belong to You. Thank You that NOTHING can ever take me from Your hand. In Jesus name, amen. 22 TAPESTRY #6 THE GREAT I AM Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! JOHN 1:29B DAY 1 This is the story of Abraham and Isaac. It is a powerful story of faith and obedience. Abraham had many things, but what he really wanted was a son. He left everything he knew to follow God because he believed His promise. Read Genesis 17:1-8: When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, 2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly. 3 Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, 4 Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8 And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God. Genesis 21:1-5: The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. 2 And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. 3 Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Genesis 22:1-2: After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. 2 He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. Now read the lyrics to the 1st verse of our song. Abraham was and because of this, God promised him. Did God keep that promise right away? 22

Abraham was 75yrs old when God first promised to bless him and 100yrs old when Isaac, his son was born! Genesis 15:6 says, Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness. Believing and obeying just because God has promised, even when it takes a long time to see the answer, is called faith. The Bible says Abraham s faith pleased God. His obedience changed the world because Jesus came through his line and blessed us all. Abraham waited 25 years for God to give him Isaac. He loved his son very much. Now God asks him to sacrifice his son. Do you think he can do such a hard thing? (We ll find out on Day 2. ) Read Genesis 22:3-12: 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you. 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, My father! And he said, Here I am, my son. He said, Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8 Abraham said, God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son. So they went both of them together. 9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. 12 He said, Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me. Now read the lyrics to the 2nd verse of our song. There are 2 kinds of obedience shown in this story. Can you name them? obeyed and obeyed. If we want to please God like Abraham, we must be obedient in the same 2 ways, to God and to our parents. Isaac shows us that it is easier to obey parents who first obey God. 23

DAY 2 Why do we call God The Great I Am? Read Exodus 3:13-18: 13 Then Moses said to God, If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? what shall I say to them? 14 God said to Moses, I am who I am. And he said, Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you. 15 God also said to Moses, Say this to the people of Israel: The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations. This is the name that God gives Himself to remind us of His unchanging nature. Jehovah means I AM WHO I AM. Another name for God, Yahweh, comes from the Hebrew word for I Am. Read Genesis 22:13-18; 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, The Lord will provide ; as it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided. 15 And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice. Now read the chorus of our song. Do you remember back in vs. 7-8 when Isaac asked his father where the lamb for the sacrifice was? Write Abraham s answer here: Was Abraham right to trust God? What did he name the place where God gave the ram to sacrifice? Find God s Hebrew name in the chorus that means The Lord Will Provide. Read Romans 3: the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by 24

his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, What is the word in this scripture and in the chorus that means to free by paying the price? God s plan was to send to redeem us and set us free. DAY 3 There are many pictures in this powerful story that we need to understand. In our musical, FAO has a son that he loves. He just can t understand why God would ask Abraham to sacrifice his son. Miss Joy explains to him that God didn t want Isaac s life, He wanted Abraham s heart. It was a test to see if Abraham really trusted God and loved God above all else. In the presence of faith, God provided the lamb. All the characters in this story are pictures of a bigger truth. Abraham was a father who was willing to lay down the life of his only son. Who is that a picture of? Isaac was a son obeying his father even though it meant his own death. Who is that a picture of? DAY 4 The lamb s life was sacrificed to save the life of Isaac. Who gave His life to save us? Read your Mystery Verse. We learned in The Way that blood had to be shed for a sacrifice to pay for sin. The lamb in the bush shed his blood for Isaac, but the Lamb of God has shed His sinless blood to pay for the sins of the whole world. Who is the Lamb of God? Read 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, Why do we no longer need regular animal sacrifices like they had in the Old Testament? Spend some time today alone with Jesus and picture a pure, innocent Lamb willing to give His life to save you. Thank Jesus, the Lamb of God, for His priceless gift to you. 25

DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verse. Then say it for your parents Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! JOHN 1:29B Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, Thank You for being Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides all I need. Thank You most of all for sending Jesus, the Lamb of God, to sacrifice His life to pay for my sin. Help me to see from this story that You want my heart to belong to You more than anything else. Help me be like Abraham, willing to obey You no matter what! I love You God! In Jesus name, amen. 27 TAPESTRY #7 THE JOY CAROL MEDLEY Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you this day is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. LUKE 2:10-11 DAY 1 DAY 2 In our musical, FAO is sad when he learns about the Lamb dying to pay for man s sin. He thinks that s the end of the story. We have to tell him that Jesus IS the Savior God had promised, and He gave His life to pay for man s sin. But three days later, the power of God, the same power that created the universe, conquered death and brought Jesus back to life to live forever in the hearts of those who would believe in Him. We ve come to the Christmas part of the Joy Story - and that s YOUR part. You see, what Jesus did for you is a gift, but just like any other gift, it doesn t become yours until you believe that someone bought it for you and you take it as your own. Only then will you understand why the angels sang and wise men worshipped on that first Christmas. You can t really celebrate the birth of Jesus until you understand WHY He came. So your assignment for today is to spend time alone with Jesus and ask Him to speak to your heart so that Christmas will be more than just a holiday this year. Ask Him to help you see how much of your heart you have surrendered to Him. As we work on our musical together, give Jesus the gift He wants the most for His birthday, either all of your heart for the very first time or more of your heart than you ve ever given before. Happy Birthday Jesus! Look at The Joy Carol Medley. Read the words to Hark the Herald Angels Sing. The angels are singing because God and sinners have been reconciled. Romans 5:10 says, For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. The Greek word for reconcile means to change completely. Reconciliation means atonement or brought back into fellowship with God. Have you asked Jesus into your heart and been changed completely? If you have, then praise God with the angels. If you haven t, then I m praying you will ask Jesus into your heart. Go to page 29 to help you understand what it means to give your heart to Jesus. 27

DAY 3 DAY 4 Read O Come All Ye Faithful. When we understand why Jesus came, we can t help but adore Him like the song says. Adoring Jesus with all our hearts is how we worship Him and thank Him for all He has done for us. Romans 12:1-2 says, I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Renewing your mind means to change your mind until it agrees with God about how to live. The truest worship is when the way we live our lives pleases God. When the Word of God has really changed us, the world will notice and want what we have. Has God s Word changed you? Read the two verses of How Great Our Joy. We get excited about the Baby in the manger when we understand that the Baby is the Son of God who has come to redeem us. Do you remember what redemption means? 1 Peter 1:18-19 says, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. The song says This of God we cherish well, that ever our hearts shall fill. When we accept the free gift that Jesus bought for us, we must show God that we cherish it by living our lives sold out to Him so the world will know where our joy comes from. Can people see the joy in your life? Read Joy to the World. The most important line in this song is Let every prepare Him. Jesus will not force His way into your life. He is a gentleman who waits to be invited in. Have you prepared room for Him in your heart? Revelation 3:20 says, Behold I stand at the and. If hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in. Put your name in the last blank and you will hear what Jesus is saying to you! He is waiting to be the best friend you ever had. Won t you make room for Him this Christmas? 28

DAY 5 Memorize your mystery verse. Then say it for your parents Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you this day is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. LUKE 2:10-11 Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, I have learned that Jesus is THE WAY that covers my sin to bring me back to You, THE ARK where I can be safe in You, THE LAMB who paid the price to save me and make me Your child. Help me give ALL my heart to You. I don t want to hold anything back. I want to be changed completely so my life will show my friends that I belong to You. Help me have REAL JOY this Christmas the JOY that leads others to You. I love You God. In Jesus name, amen. 30 TAPESTRY #8 IN EVERY HEART For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ROMANS 6:23 DAY 1 In our musical, FAO is a wealthy man who has spent his whole life trying to find joy by filling his life with toys. He has heard the Joy Story for the very first time and his heart is deeply touched, but he s not sure what to do. Raggedy Ann uses her painted on heart to help him see that he has a real heart that Jesus can live in by grace through faith. She tells him there s a part of his heart that God created just for Jesus. She s right you know! Have you asked Jesus into your heart? (If you have, then use this tapestry to lead someone to Jesus as a Christmas gift for Him. God will lead you to the right person - just ask Him - right now! Spend some time praying for the person before you share with them. God will help you! And get ready, because you ve never known such joy!) DAY 2 If you haven t asked Jesus into your heart, then read on to learn how to do it now. Romans 3:23 says, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Have you done things that are wrong that separate you from God like Adam and Eve? Romans 6:23 says, The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Do you need a Savior to pay the price for your sin so that you can be saved? John 1:12 says, But to all who did receive Him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Do you want to be a child of God? If your answers were yes to these questions, look at the words to In Every Heart. The song says God calls to, a still small voice. In every heart, there is a need to be His child. He s asking to make a choice. Put your name in every blank and you will hear what God is saying to you. The choice He wants you to make is to ask Jesus to come into your heart and make you a child of God. On the next page you ll find the plan of salvation and a prayer of salvation. You may want to talk to a parent or SS Teacher or Choir Leader to understand more what it 30

means to give your life to Jesus. Be sure to write down the date of your Salvation Birthday at the bottom. You and Jesus can celebrate together! Plan of Salvation: Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:10 "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:13 "For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. Do you believe this Scripture? You can pray right now to receive Jesus: Dear Jesus, Thank You for making a way for me to be saved and have eternal life in Heaven. I admit that I am a sinner and only You can save me from my sin. I believe that You died on the cross and rose from the dead to save me. I confess my sin and ask for Your forgiveness. Please forgive me from my sin and come into my heart and save me. I give You my heart. Thank You for the free gift of eternal life. I pray that I will learn more about You every day and follow Your way. Thank You Jesus for the gift of salvation. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen. The Bible promises, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21 Thank you God for salvation by Your Grace! Today is my Salvation Birthday: DAY 3 Your heart is the greatest Christmas present you could ever give to Jesus! Heaven is rejoicing already, so why not let us rejoice with you! Your assignment today is to write a letter and tell us all about how you gave your heart to Jesus. You can share as little or as much as you want to share. It s the best Christmas gift you could give your family and your church leaders too. We are so proud of you and excited for you because you re about to begin life s greatest adventure! Send your letter to Mrs. Teri and she will share with other Kingdom Kidz & SS Leaders. 31

The address at church is: Mrs. Teri Van Duyn First Baptist Church 124 West Ashley Street Jacksonville, Florida (If you re one of the kids who are already saved and you re telling someone else about Jesus this week, you can write to me about that too!) 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The has passed away; the new has come. Think about it and then write down some things that you are going to do or say differently now that you belong to Jesus. Ask Jesus to help you be a new creation. DAY 4 DAY 5 On another piece of paper, write a Christmas letter to Jesus, thanking Him for being the Covering for your sin and the Ark to protect you and the Lamb to pay the price for you. Talk to Him from your heart and tell Him what He means to you and how thankful you are for His amazing love and grace. Thank Him that He keeps ALL His promises to you. Make Him some promises about who and what you want to be for Him and how you want to serve Him with your life. It will be His favorite birthday present this Christmas. And never forget, He loves to hear you sing! Memorize your mystery verse. Then say it for your parents For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ROMANS 6:23 32

Pray this prayer with your family: Dear God, Thank You for all that You are and for how You show us Yourself to us throughout the Bible. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for our sins. Thank You for being Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider. Thank You for allowing us to share the ultimate JOY story with those who come to the musical. Please touch hearts and lives so that people will give their hearts to You. Use me to be a good testimony to others around me so they will want to know You. Thank You for loving me. CHORUS: The Scarlet Thread weaves its way through the ages, Through each line, God s design was a Savior. The Scarlet Thread traced a path from God to me. And has bound us together - eternally. Solo (v2-miss Joy): As the tapestry unveils God s heart, Christ, our Redeemer takes our place. And the Scarlet Thread, by the blood He shed, Reveals to us amazing grace. 37 THE WAY THE WAY Adam (v1): In the beginning everything was cool. Made in His image, God let me rule. Formed from my rib - my one and only Eve. Gave us a place we'd never want to leave. Eve (v2): But He gave one rule to me: Stay away from just one tree. If you eat its fruit you ll die! Trust me - God would never lie! (8 measure Transition) CHORUS 1: Hey...if we obey... We'll be okay...he made a way-e-ay! Oh...Hey...He made a way... A perfect way...for us to stay. Solo (v3): They walked with God in the cool of the day. Had all they needed in every way. Until they noticed a slick old snake, Holdin' an apple they were tempted to take. Solo (v4): It was the fruit God had said not to try, But Satan told 'em it'd make 'em wise. They took a bite and they started to cry: "Why'd we listen to a snake who lies?" CHORUS 2: Hey...we've gone astray... And lost our way...we have to pay-e-ay! Oh...Hey...we disobeyed... We better pray...he'll make a way! 37
