YOUNG PEOPLE S CHRISTMAS WORSHIP December 12, 2009 Welcome and Announcements David Moll Choral Call to Worship Kum Ba Yah African/American Preparation O Little Town of Bethlehem L. H. Redner Keagan Leuenberger, piano O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. Call to Worship Isaiah 9:6, 7 Michael Steinke * Hymn of Praise Joy to the World No. 125 Morning Prayer Johnathon Merrills and Kaitlyn Mercy Offering of Gifts World Budget (Inner Cities) David Moll Offertory Away In a Manger Traditional Kaitlyn Mercy, flute and Susan Mercy, violin Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying He makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, and stay by my side till the morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, and fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there. Anthem Little Drummer Boy Katherine K. Davis Kindergarten S.S. Come, they told me, a new-born King to see; our finest gifts we bring to lay before the King. So to honor Him when we come. Little Baby, I am a poor boy, too. I have no gift to bring that s fir to give our King. Shall I play for You on my drum? Mary nodded; the ox and lamb kept time; I played my drum for Him. I played my best for Him. Then He smiled at me, me and my drum. Scripture verses Natalie Marsh & Carson Bentley Children s Story Pastor Bentley Meditation We Three Kings John Hopkins Cade Leuenberger, trumpet We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star. O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to Thy perfect light. * Hymn of Praise O Come, All Ye Faithful No. l32 Scripture John 3:13-21 Matthew Steinke
Anthem I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day Traditional I heard the bells on Christmas Day their old familiar carols play; And wild and sweet the words repeat of peace on earth, good will to men. I thought how, as the day had come, the belfries of all Christendom Had roll d along th unbroken song of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bow d my head: There is no peace on earth, I said, For hate is strong, and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men. Then pealed the bells more loud and deep; God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men. Till, ringing, singing on its way, the world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, of peace on earth, good will to men! Selections from Messiah by Jerry Thomas Aris Marsh, Lector Meditation The First Noel English Cedric and Johnathon Merrills The first noel the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter s night that was so deep. Noel! Born is the King of Israel! Anthem Away in a Manger Traditional Anthem Some Children See Him Alfred Burt Some children see Him lily white, the Baby Jesus born this night, with tresses soft and fair. Some children see Him bronzed & brown, the Lord of heav n to earth come down, with dark & heavy hair. Some children see Him almond eyed, this Savior whom we kneel beside, with skin of yellow hue. Some children see Him dark as they, sweet Mary s Son to whom we pray, and ah! They love him too! The children in each diff rent place will see the Baby Jesus face like theirs, but bright with heav nly grace, and filled with holy light. O lay aside each earthly thing, and with thy heart as offering, Come worship now the Infant King, tis love that s born tonight! Meditation What Child is This? English Kristopher Mercy, organ; Susan Mercy, violin What child is this, who, laid to rest on Mary s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring Him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. * Congregational Hymn Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus No. 204 Anthem O Children Come Quickly (sung in English & German) German O children, come quickly, O come, one and all! O come to the cradle in Bethlehem s stall, And gaze on the wonder, the gift from above Our Father in Heaven hath sent us with love.
Meditation God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen English Hannah Kohtz, organ God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay, Remember, Christ our Savior was born upon this day; To save us all from Satan s pow r when we were gone astray, O Tidings of comfort and joy. Anthem Go, Tell It on the Mountain African-American While shepherds kept their watching o er silent flocks by night, Behold throughout the heavens there shone a holy light. Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born, And brought us God s salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere: Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! Meditation Angels We Have Heard French Megan, Austin & Carson Bentley Angels we have heard on high, singing sweetly through the night, And the mountains in reply echoing their brave delight. Gloria in excelsis Deo. Meditation Away in a Manger German Matthew Mwemba, violin Anthem Silent Night (sung in English & German) Franz Gruber/German Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright, round yon virgin mother and Child! Holy Infant, so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace. Anthem Welcome to Our World Chris Rice Tears are falling, hearts are breaking, how we need to hear from God. You ve been promised, we ve been waiting; welcome, Holy Child. Hope that you don t mind our manger, how I wish we would have known, Long awaited, holy Stranger, please make yourself at home. Bring your peace into our violence, bid our hungry souls be filled. Word now breaking heaven s silence, welcome to our world. Fragile finger sent to heal us, tender brow prepared for thorn, Tiny heart whose blood will save us, unto us is born. So wrap our injured flesh around you, breathe our air and walk our sod. Rob our sin and make us holy, perfect Son of God. Benediction Pastor Bentley Choral Blessing Shalom Hebrew Shalom good friends, shalom good friends, shalom, shalom, Till we meet again, till we meet again, shalom, shalom. Till, ringing, singing on its way, the world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, of peace on earth, good will to men! Selections from Messiah by Jerry Thomas Aris Marsh, Lector From the days of eternity, Jesus has been with His Father. They are both God. Both are full of glory and majesty greater than anything we can imagine. Jesus came to our world to show and to share that glory. He came to our dark, sinful planet to shine the light of divine love to be God with us. That s why the Bible writer said, They will call Him Immanuel. Meditation The First Noel English Cedric and Johnathon Merrills The first noel the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter s night that was so deep. Noel! Born is the King of Israel!
Anthem Away in a Manger Traditional Jesus came to this earth to show both humans and angels what God is really like. In fact, He was the word of God God s thoughts spoken out loud, so we can hear them. It wasn t just for His children on this planet that Jesus became a human being and demonstrated God s love. He did it for all created beings. Our world is now the textbook of the whole universe. Anthem Some Children See Him Alfred Burt Some children see Him lily white, the Baby Jesus born this night, with tresses soft and fair. The purpose behind God s grace, the mystery of a love deep enough to save lost humans, will be studied by angels forever. Those who are saved, plus the beings from unfallen worlds will also sing about and study Jesus life and death. They will find the glory that shines from Jesus face is the glory of selfless love. Jesus sacrifice on Calvary shows that the law of selfless love is the law of life for earth and heaven. This selfless love comes straight from the heart of God. 204 The Son of God saw the suffering and misery that sin was causing. He saw how humans had become victims of satanic cruelty corrupted, murdered, lost in sin. Confused and deceived, they were moving in a hopeless march toward eternal ruin death with no hope of morning.
The bodies of hyman beings, made to be God s dwelling place, had become the homes of demons. With supernatural skill, human senses and passions were perferted causing people to do the most degrading things. Demon eyes looked out through human faces. This is what the world s Savior saw when He looked down upon His children. What a heartbreaking sight! Sin had become a science and evil was now a part of religion. Without God, there was no hope for humanity. Anthem O Children Come Quickly (sung in English & German) German O children, come quickly, O come, one and all! Other worlds watched with intense interest to see if the God of heaven would sweep the earth clean of humanity. Satan watched as well, ready with a plan to win the loyalty of heavenly beings. He had declared that the principles of God s government make forgiveness impossible. If humans were destroyed, Satan would have trumpeted this as proof that he was right and then spread his rebellion to the other worlds.
But instead of destroying the world, God sent His Son to save it. At the very moment when Satan seemed about to win, the Son of God came with proof of divine love and grace. When exactly the right time came, God poured out a flood of healing grace that will never stop flowing until the plan of salvation is complete. Jesus came to throw out the demons that control us, to lift us up from the dust, to reshape our character into His image, to make us beautiful with His own glory. Meditation Away in a Manger Traditional Matthew Mwemba, violin Anthem Silent Night (sung in English & German) Franz Gruber/German Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright, round yon virgin mother and Child! Holy Infant, so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace. Anthem Welcome to Our World Chris Rice Tears are falling, hearts are breaking, how we need to hear from God.
