A good maxim to live by. When I don t want to pray or when I am discouraged, or I am feeling too busy... pray more and not less. So, it is fitting that this week we will begin the practice of Tuesday nights having Confessions and Adoration offered at 5:30 pm in the main church and then Mass at 6:30 pm. I really need persons to come and pray each Tuesday night at 5:30 pm in order to have the Blessed Sacrament on the Altar. So, if you feel so inclined to pray more and not less this may be just the opportunity for you! In difficult times especially, the call is to pray more, not less. In the midst of the current sadness I found some consolation recently in a passage I read from my Breviary during Morning Prayer. It is from what is called The Office of Readings and it offered a selection from the Vatican II document Gaudiem et Spes, Joy and Hope, # 39. Here is what it said: We do not know the time for the consummation of the earth and of humanity, nor do we know how all things will be transformed. As deformed by sin, the shape of this world will pass away; but we are taught that God is preparing a new dwelling place and a new earth where justice will abide, and whose blessedness will answer and surpass all the longings for peace which spring up in the human heart. Then, with death overcome, the sons of God will be raised up in Christ, and what was sown in weakness and corruption will be invested with incorruptibility. Enduring with charity and its fruits, all that creation which God made on man's account will be unchained from the bondage of vanity. Therefore, while we are warned that it profits a man nothing if he gain the whole world and lose himself, the expectation of a new earth must not weaken but rather stimulate our concern for cultivating this one. For here grows the body of a new human family, a body which even now is able to give some kind of foreshadowing of the new age. Hence, while earthly progress must be carefully distinguished from the growth of Christ's kingdom, to the extent that the former can contribute to the better ordering of human society, it is of vital concern to the Kingdom of God. For after we have obeyed the Lord, and in His Spirit nurtured on earth the values of human dignity, brotherhood and freedom, and indeed all the good fruits of our nature and enterprise, we will find them again, but freed of stain, burnished and transfigured, when Christ hands over to the Father: "a kingdom eternal and universal, a kingdom of truth and life, of holiness and grace, of justice, love and peace." On this earth that Kingdom is already present in mystery. When the Lord returns it will be brought into full flower. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg

The hard part is living it! What do you do to live God s word? Do you share your time in prayer with God? Do you use your talent to help those in need? Are you generous with your financial resources? If not, what are you waiting for? Religious Education News Adam Horn-R.E. Director Religious Education classes are fast approaching for elementary level students. If you have not yet done so, please register your child(ren) soon to help us know how big class sizes will be. As always we are looking for catechists and subs for Grades 1-5 to teach from 6:00 7:15. Come to Bishop Hall after any of the Masses next weekend, Sept. 8&9, for light refreshments, a brief explanation and sample of an Alpha video. ALPHA...is a series of interactive sessions that runs for 10 weeks, where one can rediscover and explore the Christian Faith. Each session focuses on one of the basic issues around the faith and is designed to engage and inspire conversation Each session consists of three parts: Meal: A great way to get to know each other Talk: minute video presentation Small Group Discussion: Share thoughts and ideas without criticism or judgment Also included is one Saturday Day Away All ALPHA sessions are held in Bishop Hall at the following days and times beginning the second week of September: Tuesday: 6:00-7:30 pm (7:45 for the 1st session) Wednesday 6:00-7:15 pm (for Parents/Guardians of Children in the Religious Ed. program) Thursday: 11:30 am -1 pm (1:15 for the 1st session) The Saturday Day Away is on October 20th, from 9:30 am to 3 pm There is no charge to participate, however, free-will offerings will be gratefully accepted. The Notre Dame Academy Dance Team is hosting their annual Dance Clinic and Performance on Friday, September 28. All dancers grads K-8 are invited to participate.
