GLAD TIDINGS INDIA Rev. William D. Teate, Jr., 53 Harristown Road Paradise, PA (717) Website: December 2015 What Makes Glad Tidings India / India Bible Literature Unique? * Money leveraged into Self-sustaining Ministries * Grass-roots directed indigenous strategy * Over 60 years experience in India with * Proven, effective 30-year track record trustworthy partnerships in Church Planting and Literacy Ministry **************************************************************************************************************************************************************** bringing the glad tidings of the gospel to India in partnership with India bible literature Training & Equipping the Indigenous Church for over 50 years! Unreached People Group Ministry Update Reaching unreached people groups in India is very challenging. Danger: Some people groups are unreached because of danger from anti-christian forces. Our church partners literally risk their lives to bring the Gospel to these people. The persecution referred to in this newsletter is an example. Illiteracy: Other groups are unreached because most of the people can t read or write. Where there is illiteracy, there is gross ignorance regarding hygiene, sickness, and family relationships. Immorality prevails. Scheduled Castes: Some people groups are not reached because the people are avoided by everyone. They are outcasts and are in extreme poverty. They are exploited and abused by upper castes. Remote Locations: Other unreached people groups live in areas difficult to access. They live in dense forests or mountainous villages. In light of these challenges, we are thrilled with the results from ministry in 41 unreached people groups where the 3-year strategy employed by Glad Tidings India has been completed. Average Results Per Unreached People Group for the 41 who Completed the 3-Year Strategy 1,455 decisions for Christ 240 baptized 3,115 attending church Daily wages increased 77% 100 Became Each One Teach One teachers 280 now take daily baths and wear clean clothes These results are on average per unreached people group!!
Persecution in Orissa Again We recently received an from India that shared a letter from a church located in the state of Odisha (formally known as Orissa). The Pastor stated that Odisha is known as an anti-christian state and has undergone severe persecution for the last several years. However, within the past 15 days, Christian staff and members of one of the unreached people groups where we are working were specifically targeted. They were forcefully pulled out of their homes, assaulted, and locked in a room for hours in an attempt to have them renounce their faith. They did not, and once released, fled to the forests where they hid for several days. They have now returned to their homes but are not permitted to hold worship services or draw water from local ponds. They are living in fear. Please pray for these people that God will keep them safe and that they will remain steadfast in their faith. Church Planter in Kalal Unreached People Group Uses Own Money to Buy Land for Church Building Mr. Daniel is a church planter working in villages close to where he lives. In one village of 2,000 tribal families, God gave him 10 families who are attending worship regularly. To the glory of God, 2 men and 2 women were baptized in late August. When Daniel began ministry in this area he could not conduct worship services on Sunday in this village due to opposition to Christianity. Daniel and his wife sold some gold jewelry they had acquired and helped to buy land for a worship center located in a somewhat remote place surrounded by 4 villages. Please pray for 3 widows who have recently accepted Christ and joined the church. Kui Unreached People Group Untouchable Family comes to Faith in Christ Surendra was born into a backward, downtrodden and untouchable people group in Orissa. He sold wood for income as did his father. He struggled to buy food and because he was an untouchable, was shunned by other people. The villagers would wash a well pipe 7 or 8 times if he touched it. Because of his wretched life, he started to drink and fought with his wife. One day he heard a church planter say that God loves everyone. This news gave him hope and he accepted Christ. Initially his wife was very resistant to the Gospel. With time, however, she saw such a change in his behavior that she, too, came to believe in Jesus. This month, both he and his wife are to be baptized.
Prayer Requests Pray that persecuted believers in Orissa will remain steadfast in the faith. Pray for the church planters currently working in unreached people groups. Pray for the scheduled caste and tribal women currently enrolled in literacy classes. Pray for the necessary funding so more literacy classes can be started. Pray for the safety of India Bible Literature field staff who travel great distances to visit the ministries. Pray that God will supply all that is needed for Glad Tidings India. Please check out our updated website! In addition to having a lot of great information, it s also the way to sign up for our electronic newsletter. With the cost of postage increasing and the expense of paper and envelopes, a way to see more money go directly to the ministry is to receive an electronic Glad Tidings India newsletter. Please help us to be better stewards of God s money by opting to receive an e-copy. Glad Tidings is funded by the generous gifts of individuals, churches and businesses. The official registration and financial information of Glad Tidings India may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, within Pennsylvania, , or Registration does not imply endorsement.
Christmas Project Scheduled Caste and Tribal Women * Poorest of the poor * Most are illiterate * Work hard in agricultural fields, brick kilns, stone quarries, construction sights, etc. * Paid very little ($1 - $2 per day) * Income inadequate to feed family children undernourished * Husbands often waste their meager wages on alcohol As Bible-content literacy classes are conducted for these women, they are taught about income generation enterprises to enable them to improve financially. Starting a tea stall or petty shop can provide them with a steady means of income and increase their earning dramatically. Tea Stall two large pots one to make tea and the other for coffee are provided. Local snacks also provided. As profits increase, can add other beverages and biscuits. Petty Shop Inventory provided includes assorted items such as, locally made snacks, soap, marsala powder, cool drinks, etc. Vegetable/Fruit Stand begins selling fruit or vegetables produced locally and obtains additional items as profits grow. Provision Store (small grocery store) provides rice, grains, oil, spices, and expands as profits increase. Sewing Machine enables a woman to start a tailoring business. Need 40 Tea Stalls Each = $100 Total $4, Provision Stores Each = $100 Total $3, Petty Shops Each = $100 Total $10, Vegetable/Fruit Stands Each $100 Total $10, Sewing Machines Each $125 Total $5,000 TOTAL AMOUNT NEEDED $32,000
Former Recipients of Income Generation Projects Muniya is 31 years old. She was a victim of child marriage promised to a man when she was 6 years old and sent to live with him when she was 13. Her husband works in a brick kiln but has an alcohol abuse problem. After attending literacy classes, it was her desire to start a petty shop. Becoming literate brought hope into her life. Dashami, age 53, was a staunch idol worshipper. She was neglected, living alone, and had no income. After attending literacy classes, she accepted Christ and has now started a vegetable shop. Poti is 45 years old and has 3 children. All were illiterate. She and her husband are daily wage laborers. They depended on the government for food. She attended literacy classes and began to go to church. From the vegetable stand she started, she is now earning $4 per day. Saroja, age 40, has 3 children and her husband is paralyzed and cannot walk. She works as a coolie on an agricultural farm to support her family. After attending literacy classes, she started a petty shop to increase her income. She purchased the items and her husband sits and tends the shop. She thanks God for the literacy classes. Shanda, age 39, works as a construction laborer. Her husband abandoned her 3 years ago. She attended literacy classes, committed her life to Christ, and now has peace of mind. When construction work is not available, she sells vegetables and fruits to help educate her children. Poongodi, age 28, and her children were living on a platform like beggars because her husband was a drunkerd. After attending literacy classes she prayed for her husband and he miraculously stopped drinking. She then started a petty shop and now they are able to pay rent for a house.
