Recognize the importance of obeying God Identify the things that either strengthen or weaken their relationship with God Evaluate choices to see whether they reflect obedience or disobedience to God Ask forgiveness for sins and accept Christ as Savior, if they are ready Verse-a-Month Club Verse: What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul (Deuteronomy 10:12). Realize that even a strong Christian can face sudden temptation Understand that when we don t confess our sins, they can grow and multiply Be willing to confess sin immediately rather than covering it up or blaming others SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 Lesson 5 A Wise but Foolish King Scripture: 1 Kings 3; 4:29-34; 9:1-9; 11:1-13 Bible Study: Remaining Faithful Bible Truth: A wise person continues to obey God throughout life. Realize the importance of continuing to obey God Choose as their closest friends those who will help strengthen their relationship with God Commit to lifelong obedience to God Unit 2 THE PRAYER THAT KEEPS GOING AND GOING Unit Bible Truth: Jesus high-priestly prayer reminds us that we can share all our concerns with God. Realize that Jesus prayed for himself, His disciples, and for all believers--including them Discover practical ways to develop their communication with God through prayer Strengthen their relationship with God through regular prayer Verse-a-Month Club Verse: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the

3 peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). OCTOBER 7, 2018 Lesson 6 Why Pray? Scripture: John 16:17 17:19 Bible Study: Jesus Farewell Prayer Bible Truth: We can communicate openly with God through prayer. Become introduced to one of the most important prayers recorded in the Bible the high-priestly prayer of Jesus Realize that through prayer they can share every concern with God Feel grateful for the privilege of prayer Begin or strengthen the practice of regular prayer OCTOBER 14, 2018 Lesson 7 Jesus Prays for Himself Scripture: John 17:1-5 Bible Study: Glorify Your Son Bible Truth: It is OK to pray for ourselves if our desires glorify God. Realize that Jesus gave us the example of praying for ourselves Evaluate their prayer requests to see whether they bring glory to God OCTOBER 21, 2018 Lesson 8 Jesus Prays for His Disciples Scripture: John 17:6-19 Bible Study: I Have a Dream Bible Truth: As Christians, we can live confidently knowing that Jesus cares about our needs as His disciples. Identify the three requests Jesus made for His disciples Realize that God is with them as they face a world that is hostile to Jesus and His followers Feel confident in God s care as they live as Jesus disciples OCTOBER 28, 2018 Lesson 9 Jesus Prays for All Believers Scripture: John 17:20-26 Bible Study: Unity Bible Truth: Jesus wants His followers to experience true unity and to express God s love to the world.

4 Feel privileged and confident that Jesus prayed specifically for them Seek to live in unity with other believers Find ways to share God s love with those who don t know Him Unit 3 GOD S MEGAPHONES Unit Bible Truth: God s messages through the prophets still apply to us today. Understand the role and the methods of the prophets in proclaiming God s message to His people Become acquainted with some of the prophets messages Realize how important the prophets messages are to God s people today Seek to obey the prophets teachings Ask God to help them share His messages with others Verse-a-Month Club Verse: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you (Jeremiah 7:23). NOVEMBER 4, 2018 Lesson 10 Isaiah Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-13 Bible Study: Here Am I. Send Me! Bible Truth: God wants to communicate with us, and finds ways to do so. Realize that God called prophets to take His message to His people Feel glad that God chooses to communicate His messages to us Listen and be willing to respond to God s messages to them NOVEMBER 11, 2018 Lesson 11 Jeremiah Scripture: Jeremiah 18:1-12 Bible Study: The Potter and the Clay Bible Truth: God is sovereign, but He responds to the choices we make. Understand the meaning of God s sovereignty Realize that God allows us to make choices, but we must live with the consequences of those choices

5 Feel grateful that God responds lovingly when we choose His way Recognize the importance of obeying God NOVEMBER 18, 2018 Lesson 12 Ezekiel Scripture: Ezekiel 18:1-4, Bible Study: Sour Grapes Bible Truth: God holds all people accountable for their actions. Realize that they are accountable to God for their actions Appreciate God s fairness in dealing with us Recognize the importance of honestly admitting their sins to God NOVEMBER 25, 2018 Lesson 13 Amos Scripture: Amos 8:1-8 Bible Study: A Basket of Ripe Fruit Bible Truth: God expects His people to show love and justice to all. Grow in realization of how much God cares about people Identify injustices in their community Evaluate how they treat people Determine to treat others with love and justice
