An unflinching examination of homelessness and the housing crisis. Brooke Robinson has written a devastating portrait of someone slipping through the cracks, asking how willing we are as a society to take care of our most vulnerable. This isn't a comfortable play - it's a critical one. Tickets can be purchased through Only 100 tickets available so first in best dressed. After the play there will be a Q&A panel session and opportunity to meet the cast. This is going to be an amazing evening not to be missed!

2 Pets in the Park: A Dog-umentary Ruff Sleepers volunteers held their first grooming session for dogs on the street on Sunday, alongside the monthly Pets in the Park clinic in the grounds of St John s Anglican Church, Darlinghurst, Sydney. Ruff Sleepers is providing support, raising funds and, crucially, awareness, for homeless dog owners. You can read the article and watch the dog-umentary on the website below: Ed on Long Service Leave Ed will be on Long Service Leave from May 7 to June 18. During this time, Martin Robinson will hold the Archbishop s Licence for the parish. The preachers during that time will include Crystal Hong, Martin, Jesse Mawson and Ryan Naoum. During Ed s LSL, he and Jane will be holidaying on the mid north coast for most of that time. Rough Edges Volunteer Information Night! 3 Bible Reading: John 2: On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus mother said to him, They have no more wine. 4 Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My hour has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you. 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from eighty to a hundred and twenty litres. 7 Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water ; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realise where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now. 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.

4 The Lord s Supper Confession Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned in thought and word and deed, and in what we have left undone. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may walk in newness of life to the glory of Your name. Amen. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Father, almighty and everliving God, at all times and in all places it is right to give You thanks and praise; And so with all Your people, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name forever praising You and saying: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

5 Prayer of Humble Access We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness but in your many and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours Now and for ever. Amen.

6 World News CHINA: Pastor and two hundred church members detained On Saturday 12 May, police raided Early Rain Blessing Church in Chengdu, capital of China s southwestern Sichuan province, as the congregation prepared to commemorate the 10th anniversary of an earthquake that killed almost 90,000 people and left millions homeless. Pastor Wang Yi and two hundred members were detained until late that evening, when nearly all were released. On 28 May, twelve church members including Pastor Wang and a lawyer were detained when they visited Caojixiang Public Security Bureau to file a legal complaint about the incident. The group was detained at the bureau, several were handcuffed, and some Christians who had gathered outside the bureau were beaten when they refused to disperse. The detained Christians (some of whom are pictured, right) were all released the next day. On 28 May, twelve church members including Pastor Wang and a lawyer were detained when they visited Caojixiang Public Security Bureau to file a legal complaint about the incident. The group was detained at the bureau, several were handcuffed, and some Christians who had gathered outside the bureau were beaten when they refused to disperse. 7 Commemoration At 11pm on Friday 11 May, local public security officers arrived at Pastor Wang s home to warn him that the planned commemoration service was illegal as the church did not have the necessary permit to hold such an event. An officer informed Pastor Wang that the event would violate the new Religious Affairs Regulations that came into force on 1 February Article 69 prohibits the establishment of religious venues without government approval, and since Early Rain is not registered with the government-run Three-Self Patriotic Movement, it is not considered a legal religious venue. The official ordered Pastor Wang to cancel the commemoration or face legal consequences. Pastor Wang replied, Then come tomorrow and do whatever you are going to do according to the law. We will still meet tomorrow. Feel free to arrest us We will safeguard our legal rights according to the laws: applying for petitions and administrative review, and filing lawsuits. Soon after, a police officer arrived with a subpoena for picking quarrels and provoking trouble and brought Pastor Wang to the local police station for questioning. Police also detained church preacher Li Yingqiang. Under the presidency of Xi Jinping, China s Communist Party has increased control over religious affairs and is overseeing the Sinicisation of religion, with the aim of making it more Chinese. Pastor Wang had previously criticised the new Religious Affairs Regulations, saying he considers them a violation of religious freedom and calling on Christians to resist them. An anonymous source in Chengdu told World Watch Monitor that the government is increasing pressure on churches across China. It seems that local authorities are pressurised to enforce the religious regulations to a certain extent, to at least take some action, said the source, adding that churches that hold meetings in commercial buildings are targeted and the authorities close the church venues. Also, more landlords refuse to continue rental contracts with churches. Hence, these local churches are forced to return to house meetings. Student repeatedly struck during interrogation A Christian who was interrogated and beaten for attending the commemoration has written a letter describing the persecution he experienced. Theology student Song Enguang describes a harsh interrogation during officials questioned him on his Bible knowledge and struck thirty times in the face.
