Monday Scripture Reading: Rom. 1:5; 10:6-7; Heb. 9:22 For if we, being enemies, were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more we will be saved in His life, having been reconciled. (Romans 5:10) Qualified to Receive Life The subject this week is Believing in the Gospel of Grace. According to what we have seen in the book of Romans, the Lord has commissioned us to preach the gospel of God because He has good news for men. God s will has already been done in the heavens where He is reigning. However, the Lord wants to bring His kingdom to the earth so that His will may also be done here. When the kingdom of God is brought to the earth it is called the kingdom of the heavens, for its nature is heavenly. The gospel as the good news is that God wants to bring us into His kingdom, His heavenly rule. The first aspect or stage of the gospel of God presents the Lord Jesus as the Son of Man. God wants to save man, but in His divinity He could not be man s Substitute in this matter. Therefore, as the Son of Man He partook of flesh and blood by putting on human flesh to be our Substitute. Through Mary the Lord Jesus received a body like ours that was fully flesh and blood, yet without sin. He was qualified in this way to deal with the problem of sin, shedding His own blood in our place so we could obtain the forgiveness of sins (Heb. 9:22). Thanks to the Lord, He shed His blood for us, dealt with the problem of our sins on the cross and reconciled us to God. Through His eternal redemption we have been qualified to receive His life. All of this that the Lord accomplished for us is included in the gospel of grace. In order for us to receive it, we didn t need to pay any price or make any great effort, like ascending to heaven or descending into the abyss (Rom. 10:6-7). We only had to believe and everything that is included in the gospel of grace became ours. Reconciled to God. Your What did the work of the Son of Man consist of? 2 Tuesday Scripture Reading: Rom. 1:4 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. (1 John 5:12) From the Gospel of Grace to the Gospel of the Kingdom The gospel of grace is carried out by the Son of Man and brings us into the church. When we come to the church, we enter into another stage in our Christian life that of living the reality of the kingdom of the heavens. At the beginning of man s living in the church, he is still capable of committing sins because he has little of God s life, and most of his being is still fleshly, filled with his natural life. Therefore, once he is in the church and has resolved the problem of sin, what remains is to grow in God s life and be freed from sinning. The kingdom of the heavens is formed of those who have God s life. According to the revelation in the Bible, the period of time in which we are living the church life corresponds to the reality of the kingdom of the heavens, where we can receive more of God s life and grow spiritually. Although we may have the reality today, the kingdom of the heavens has not yet been manifested, for its manifestation will be in the coming age. In the church today the Lord is working in each one of us so that we may be ready to reign with Him in that day. The gospel of God has two stages. We have already seen the first stage, according to which the Son of Man came to deal with the problem of our sins. After this we can receive God s life. In the second stage, the Lord Jesus as the Son of God gives us the divine life that we might grow in life (1 John 5:12). This is the gospel of the Son of God, the gospel of life, according to which the Lord Jesus is the Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness (Rom. 1:4). Because He is the Son of God, He is always dispensing life to us. The first stage of the gospel of God is the gospel of grace, but we cannot stop there; we need to go on. The gospel of God is complete and also comprises the gospel of the kingdom, the gospel of life. While the preaching of the gospel of grace deals with the problem of sin, the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of the heavens deals with our soul-life. The gospel of the kingdom of the heavens has as its goal to cause those who have God s life and have been brought into the church to grow in the divine life and live the reality of the kingdom of the heavens. Hence, in the church we are helped to deny our soul-life. Thank the Lord! We need to pass from the first stage, the gospel of grace, to the second, the gospel of the kingdom. Advancing from grace to the kingdom. Your What is the purpose of the gospel of grace and the gospel of the kingdom? SEPARATED UNTO THE GOSPEL OF GOD - The Gospel of God 2

Wednesday Scripture Reading: Gen. 12:2; Matt. 22:41-45; Rom. 7:23; Heb. 7:2 And one of the elders said to me, Do not weep; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals. (Revelation 5:5) The Lion of the Tribe of Judah As sinners we need to believe in order to receive the gospel of grace. In Romans 1:5 we read, Through whom we have received grace and apostleship unto the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles on behalf of His name. As we have seen, the first aspect of the gospel of God is to receive grace through the gospel of grace. Man has this need because he is a sinner and naturally commits sins. Satan influences the fallen human soul because his sinful nature is in man s soul and induces it to sin (James 1:14-15). Nevertheless, when the gospel of grace reaches man, it brings him into the church. From then on, man begins to receive the gospel of life and is gradually freed from sinning. Though the Lord Jesus was a man, He didn t come from an ordinary lineage, but came from the seed of David, that is, from the kingly lineage (Matt. 22:41-45). He is a descendant of David, who, in turn, was a descendant of Abraham. David became king because, when God called Abraham, He promised him that his seed would become a great nation (Gen. 12:2). Though He was the Son of Man, the Lord Jesus possessed the standing of King. He is the descendant of Abraham, from whom God made a great nation, and also the son of King David. He was not a common man, but had royal blood. The Bible records that in order for this great nation to come forth, Abraham begot Isaac, and Isaac begot Jacob. Jacob, later called Israel, had twelve sons, among whom only Judah was designated king. Thank the Lord that Israel made a prophecy concerning his son Judah. When he blessed his twelve sons, he said, Judah is a young lion; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he stretches out like a lion, And like a lioness; who will rouse him up? (Gen. 49:9). This lion typifies the royal lineage that comes from Abraham and was transmitted by Israel to his son Judah. Thus, the tribe of Judah is the tribe of the kingship. In Revelation the Lord is presented as the Lion of the tribe of Judah (5:5). A lion symbolizes a king one who has authority. The Lord Jesus, even as the Son of Man, is a special man, a descendant of a line of kings, for the descendants of David came from Judah, from whom He came forth (Matt. 1:1). We still see something interesting in the fact of Judah being a lion. In Genesis 49:8 we read, Judah, your brothers will praise you; Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; Your father's sons will bow down before you. He is a king; therefore, his brothers ought to praise him. Verse 10 continues, The scepter will not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to Him shall be the obedience of the peoples. A scepter pertains to nobles, and a staff shows kingly authority. Thus, the kingship and its authority were given to Judah, until Shiloh should come, which is peace. Peace here refers to the Lord Jesus (Heb. 7:2). Thus we see that Judah is the tribe of the kingship, from whose descendants King David came. The Lord Jesus came further along in this kingly lineage. The Lord Jesus is not a common man. Your What do a scepter and a staff represent, respectively? SEPARATED UNTO THE GOSPEL OF GOD - The Gospel of God 3

Thursday Scripture Reading: Num. 22:5-6, Binding his foal to the vine, And his donkey's colt to the choice vine, He washes his garment in wine, And his robe in the blood of grapes. (Genesis 49:11) Tied to the Vine in Order to Grow in Life As we have already mentioned, a lion indicates the aspect of the kingship, but in his prophecy Jacob added an important point when he said that Judah would tie his donkey to the vine (Gen. 49:11). A donkey is a stubborn animal and difficult to be tamed; thus it typifies human nature. Under the light of the word we have presently been receiving concerning denying oneself in order to follow the Lord, a donkey symbolizes a person who lives under the influence of his soul-life. Human character is strong, hard and inflexible, just like a donkey. In the light of this illustration, we must look at ourselves and see that we are as hard as a donkey. As an example we have the story of Balaam, a prophet who received money from Balak to go and curse the people of Israel (Num. 22:5-6). He was riding on his donkey and an Angel of the Lord appeared in the way, who stopped him from passing. Balaam didn t see him, but the donkey saw him and, stopping in the way, didn t want to go forward. Since Balaam wanted to keep going, he got a rod and struck the donkey to make her walk. However, the more he beat her, the more she stood still (vv ). This is the character of a donkey. If it is beaten, it stops; if it is stopped and the person riding it continues to beat it, it sits down. Do we have this kind of character? Sometimes a donkey doesn t receive orders even from its owner, that is, it doesn t pay attention to anyone s orders. We expect that our character may be changed by the growth of the divine life in us! When I was five years old I played a lot with my oldest brother. Together we were very naughty, always causing trouble. When we would break something, our mother would always scold and discipline us. When she spanked my brother, he wouldn t budge, as if to say, You can spank all you want. Even though he felt the pain, he would hold on and hold out. I was different. When my turn came to get spanked, I shouted and asked her not to do this. Our soul-life is like a donkey. The problem of our soul-life is very difficult to deal with. Thirty years ago we were already hearing messages about denying the soul-life, and until today we have not fully denied it. This is like having a donkey s character. A donkey has a character that is by no means easy. However, beating him doesn t work. Actually, matching strength with a donkey is useless, because the only way to change it is to tie it to the vine. Hallelujah! By being tied to the vine, the garments of Judah s donkey were washed in grapes, his eyes were red with wine, and his teeth white like milk. He passed through a process of transformation. Grapes symbolize life, and in the same way, if we feed on the divine life our inner being will be changed. We must realize that we have still not fully denied our soul-life. Even though we have been in the church life a long time, we still have much natural life that needs to be denied. There is only one way to deny the soul-life, which is to be tied to the true vine, Christ Himself. The church life is the best place to be tied to the vine and thus receive life, life and more life. Sometimes we look at a good pasture, a great worldly attraction, such as something we used to eat in the past, and are tempted to eat it again. But there is a cord tied to us that won t let us go there. What should we do? The only way is to turn to the vine and eat grapes. This is our situation. We can only eat grapes, and by eating these grapes, which represent the divine life, our inner being is transformed. By denying our soul-life in the church life, we grow and are filled with God s life. After receiving the abundance of this life, it will flow and reach others, making us useful to the Lord. This is God s desire: life for all! Tied to the true vine. Your What is the best way for us to be transformed? SEPARATED UNTO THE GOSPEL OF GOD - The Gospel of God 4

Friday Scripture Reading: John 1:12; Eph. 2:1; 1 John 1:7; Rev. 11:18 Saying, We thank You, Lord God the Almighty, He who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and have reigned. (Revelation 11:17) The Son of Man is from Royal Lineage As we have seen previously, the lion of Judah will continue to be king until Shiloh comes (Gen. 49:10). This Lion is the Lord Jesus, who will come in the manifestation of the kingdom of the heavens, the millennial kingdom. On that day we will also be able to be co-kings and rule together with Him (Rev. 20:6). In addition to this, when the kingdom of the heavens is manifested, we will all be rewarded, whether small or great (11:18). Therefore, we shouldn t be sorrowful or worry about receiving or not receiving a reward in the future. We only need to live the normal church life, that is, it is enough to eat grapes in order to grow in the divine life, and we will surely enter into the manifestation of the kingdom of the heavens. Although David was a man according to God s heart, he fell into sin several times. We shouldn t criticize him; however, if we read his story we will see that he did some things that were disapproved of. Just like him, we all need salvation and redemption. This salvation takes place through Jesus Christ, because He is the Son of Man that comes from royal lineage. The blood He shed is more than able to cleanse us from all sins (1 John 1:7). Our earthly position does not matter; the Lord Jesus is the son of David, and as a King, has a higher position. Furthermore, His blood has the power to forgive us of all our sins. Thank the Lord! The Lord, therefore, has shown us that grace is God giving His Son for us freely to redeem us from our sins by His blood (Eph. 1:6-7). It doesn t matter how great our sin is, this blood is greater, for it is the blood of Jesus. How great is this grace! We believe in the gospel of grace and receive it through faith. According to our experience, we were dead in our offenses and sins (Eph. 2:1). Since we were in darkness, we weren t conscious of our sins. He who is in darkness does not see that he has sin. Thank the Lord Jesus that when God enlightens us we are able to see that we are in sin. When we are enlightened, God can reach us and apply all the important steps to make our initial salvation solid. The blood of the Son deals with the problem of our sins. 6 Saturday Scripture Reading: John 1:4-9; 1 John 1:5 Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people sitting in darkness have seen a great light; and to those sitting in the region and shadow of death, to them light has risen. (Matthew 4:15-16) To Us Light Has Risen From a child I was taught by my parents to be a good boy. For example, when my brother and I would do wrong things, my brother could get spanked a lot, but he never had any reaction. With me it was different; I confessed my sin immediately. Our family received much influence about being moral and ethical persons mainly from the teachings of Confucius. Because of these teachings, we sought to be upright, perfect men who turned away evil, like Job (Job 1:1). When I became an adult, I sometimes smoked, drank a little and participated in betting games for the sake of business. For me this was not sin. I wanted to make money, so I would drink and play socially. In my concept, sin referred to gross deeds like killing, stealing, committing adultery, lying or bearing false witness. I didn t realize that in my living I also was in sin. One day my eldest brother took me to a meeting of the church to hear the gospel. There I saw three concentric circles drawn on the board, representing man s body, soul and spirit. There was a brother preaching the word, but I was only looking at those three circles on the board and wasn t paying attention to what he was saying. When the meeting ended, a brother came to me and said, Mr. Dong, did you know that all have sinned and that we are all sinners? I said to him, What? I, a sinner? I have never done anything wrong! In everything I did, I considered myself like Job: upright, perfect, turned away from evil (Job. 1:1). I said to him, You are the ones who are sinners, not I! and I left. This happened because I didn t have light and didn t recognize sin, since I had still not received light. The light came after I was saved and baptized, and every time it came, it showed me where I had been wrong. One day, I don t know what happened because, though I didn t now how to pray well, I remained kneeling for some time. After this my situation changed. I lit a cigarette and when I smoked I sensed a horrible taste. I also began to have no desire to drink. When I played at betting, the place where I was seated bothered me; it seemed that needles were sticking into me. I didn t see sin because I was in darkness, but the Lord wanted to save me. What happened to me was like what is written in Matthew 4:15-16: Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people sitting in darkness have seen a great light; and to those sitting in the region and shadow of death, to them light has risen. I didn t go after the light, but the light came to me; I didn t know my sin, but the Lord made me see it; I was in darkness, but later I was enlightened. The first step is to be enlightened. We all need to be enlightened. It may be that the light has come to us through someone who preached the gospel to us or through a spiritual book that we have read. In whatever way, all of us one day received light from the Lord and saw our own sins. In the darkness we didn t see them, but when the light comes, all the darkness is scattered and sins are exposed. The light came to us. Your What has been your experience of being enlightened by the Lord? SEPARATED UNTO THE GOSPEL OF GOD - The Gospel of God 6

Sunday Scripture Reading: John 3:3; 8:6; Acts 26:20; Rom. 4:7; 2 Cor. 5:19; Phil. 3:9; Heb. 2:11 Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12) Neither Do I Condemn You After we are enlightened and see our sins, the second step is to repent, and the third is to confess them before the Lord. When we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, we are forgiven (1 John 1:9) this is the fourth step. In chapter eight of the Gospel of John we have the account of a woman caught in flagrant adultery. The scribes and Pharisees took her before the Lord Jesus to put Him to the test. They called Him Teacher, for they did not recognize Him as Lord. According to verses 4 and 5, they said to Him, Teacher, this woman has been caught committing adultery, in the very act. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What then do you say? There was no way to deny this fact. To human eyes this was dealing with a complicated situation. If the Lord should say to stone her, they would say, Are You not the Son of God? Where is the love of God? On the other hand, if He should say not to stone her, they would reply that He would not be fulfilling the law of Moses. The purpose of this was to catch the Lord in some fault, but He did not immediately respond. Instead, He began to write on the ground (v. 6). They thought they had left the Lord without any way out. They even insisted on hurrying up His answer. When He stood up, however, He didn t answer whether they should stone the woman or not, but said, He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her (v. 7). This sentence enlightened all who were there. It was as if each one were thinking, I am a sinner, so I don t have the right to throw any stone at her. Thus, from the oldest to the youngest, all withdrew because they were enlightened and saw that they were sinners. Eventually none of them had the boldness to stay there. When the Lord asked, Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? And she said, No one, Lord.! (vv ). By saying Lord, she showed that she recognized Him as Lord and that she was a sinner. The Lord finally said, Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more (v. 11). This shows us that the sin she committed was forgiven and its record had been erased. She began with a clean slate, which represents the fifth step. Just like her, we also must repent of our sins. This woman was forgiven and justified. The Lord Jesus justified her, and not only so, but also changed her position. Before, she was in an environment of sin, but at that moment she heard, Sin no more. Her position was changed to a holy position; she was sanctified. Justification is the sixth step of salvation and sanctification is the seventh. We pass through these stages when we believe in the gospel of grace. When the Lord Jesus justified and sanctified us, we were brought back to God, that is, to His presence. We can imagine how God the Father would be saying, Jesus, why did you bring this man to My presence if he is a sinner? The Lord Jesus would surely respond, He was a sinner, but I shed My blood and washed away his sins; now he is in another position, no longer as a sinner, but as a righteous one. He has been sanctified, separated. Surely then the Father would say to Him, Ah, this being so, let us be reconciled. Thank the Lord that we have been reconciled to God. Reconciliation is the eighth step of salvation. Once we are reconciled to God we can receive His life, for the problem of sin has been resolved. Thus we can be regenerated. Praise the Lord! Even though there are many details, we are highlighting here eight steps of the salvation we received when we believed in the gospel of grace. As we have seen, we are enlightened, then we repent and confess. Following this, we receive the forgiveness of our sins because the Lord was crucified for us. Our sins are washed away. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit erased all the record of sin. SEPARATED UNTO THE GOSPEL OF GOD - The Gospel of God 7

Powered by TCPDF ( Now we are no longer sinners, but righteous. The Lord Jesus did this for us. When we believed in the gospel of grace, we received all that the Lord has done. We are righteous because the Lord justified us (Rom. 5:9); then we can be sanctified (Heb. 13:12). The Lord put us on the altar, we have been burned and have become ashes. Now we are reconciled to God (Rom. 5:10a). Moreover, we received regeneration (1 Pet. 1:23). All of us who have believed in the gospel of grace have experienced these items. This gospel dealt with the problem of our sins and qualified us to receive the divine life. Therefore it reaches from the forgiveness of sins to regeneration. How great is this grace! The One who shed His blood for us is the very Son of God. We did not need to do anything, because He did everything in our place. But we don t stop here. We need to advance and receive the gospel of the kingdom, the gospel of life in the church life. How great is this grace! Your What are the steps of salvation contained in the speaking today?
