1925 Bishop Gallagher Council No PROMPTER Volume 94, Issue 1 ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN April 2018 c/o Royal Canadian Legion Post 84, 1005 East 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI Grand Knights Message Brother Knights, As we look forward to the arrival of spring, and of new beginnings, we will be glad to see you at a meeting. Please stop in and see what you have been missing. Your council is on track to possibly make Star Council Status, Congratulations. So far, we have had good success recruiting new members this past year. If you do make it to a meeting, please introduce yourself to anyone you may not recognize, and welcome them. I challenge each knight to gain one new member each this coming year. As always, look around you and invite others to join our group. Invite your friends and family. It offers you an opportunity to spend time with your current friends if they join as well. Everyone knows someone that could join. We welcome your input as a member. With elections also coming up, YOU have the great opportunity to help lead our council and support causes that matter to you. Remember, 7:30pm the 3rd Tuesday of each month is our regular membership meeting. We have had great turnouts lately, and of course the best social hour in town afterwards. Please check on the past volunteer efforts of your council, and please personally thank those who helped at the St. Mary warming center, The St. Mary Elementary Free-throw contest, Mary s Mantel, and other volunteered events. Remember, if everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot. Fraternally, Sean Dare Grand Knight K of C 2569 Volume 94, Issue 1 Prompter 1 April 2018

Chaplain Father Lawrence Ventline We walked a lot during Lent while my 2 brothers and 4 sisters grew up: To Saint Thomas the Apostle School at Townsend and Miller from Lynch Road where we lived near the City Airport. For stations of the cross. More steps to remind us of the life of Christ who walked his own passion that we mark starting Feb. 14th for 40 days. However sadly or happily we walk 'em via Easter, let us be hopeful of the very real Light at the end of any dark tunnels we traverse. God lives. Hope is sure and certain. Lawrence M. Ventline Pro-Life Update/Reminder What is Planned Parenthood trying to hide? The abortion giant quietly released its annual report earlier this month over the New Year s holiday in an attempt to conceal from the public its focus on profiting from the killing of preborn children at the expense of providing genuine health care for women. The truth is that Planned Parenthood's own self-reported statistics completely destroy the phony women s health care narrative it pushes so adamantly. What does the report reveal? Planned Parenthood committed 321,384 abortions abortions every day. Abortions have increased 11 percent since 2006, while other services decline. The abortion giant only did 3,889 adoption referrals in That means it committed 82 abortions for every single baby it referred out for adoption. Prenatal services continue to be largely non-existent at their facilities, down 18 percent from 2015, counting for only 7,762 of the over 9.5 million services it claimed to provide over the past year. Planned Parenthood claims to have served 2.4 million clients in 2016, a 23 percent decrease in the number of clientele it boasted just ten years ago. In stark contrast, federally funded health centers served 26 million patients in the same year alone. Despite the loss of clients and huge decline in legitimate health care services, Planned Parenthood s taxpayer funding has jumped from $336.7 million to $543.7 million in the past ten years. Excess revenue, otherwise known as profit, jumped from $77.5 million in 2015 to a whopping $98.5 million in Volume 94, Issue 1 Prompter 2 April 2018

The question taxpayers should be asking their members of Congress is, as Planned Parenthood's abortion business continues to grow at the expense of providing genuine health care services, what are their tax dollars paying for? Looking at the trends over the past decade illustrates Planned Parenthood s increasing focus on abortion as an integral part of its business model: To read an in-depth look at the abortion giant s report on Live Action News, click here: Let s make 2018 the year the forced taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood finally ends. Pray and fast for the victims of abortion. Vivat Jesus, Mark Baker, Pro-Life Chairman Volume 94, Issue 1 Prompter 3 April 2018

Dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking the Catholic Faith to the streets. Christ s call to evangelize was made to every Catholic Christian, and the Second Vatican Council reiterated this need, urging each of the baptized to bring the Gospel, found fully in the Catholic Church, to a culture that has largely reverted to paganism. As an on-thestreet Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for people to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture. 5 Your Council at work, Volunteering St. Mary Catholic Church of Royal Oak opened its doors (again) in mid-january to the homeless, and the Knights of Bishop Gallagher Council 2569 participated. 12 Shifts, 9 Knights & wives, a total of about 60 hours. There were about guests each night. The temperature each night was around 10 degrees outside with snow on the ground. Matthew 25: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me. Every volunteer came away with stories, and mixed feelings of sadness and joyfulness. Some of the actual conversations went like this: Guest: I have not eaten in 3 days, do you have any HOT food? Knight: Yes, sit down here and I will get you a plate full of HOT meatballs, gravy, potatoes, corn and dessert. Guest: Do you have anything other than water to drink? Knight: Yes, can I get you milk, OJ, cranberry juice, or Chocolate milk? Guest (after the police dropped him off at 3 am) I know it is late, but can I still come in? Knight: Yes, come on inside, you can have this bag that has a blanket, pillow, and mat. Can I get you something to eat? Guest: My socks are all wet, do you have any dry ones? Knight: Yes, this woman can give you clean & dry socks, hats, gloves, and other clothes. Guest: I am really sick but hate to go out into the snow tonight. Knight: That s OK, stay here, I have already called for a paramedic to come take care of you. Specifics for the shifts covered by your Brother Knights are as follows: Shift 1-2: from Monday 1/15 9:30 p.m. to Tuesday 1/16 2 a.m. Shift 3-4: from Tuesday 1/16 2 a.m. to Tuesday 1/16 7 a.m. Shift 5-7: from Thursday 1/18 9:30 to Friday 1/19 2 a.m. Shift 8-9: from Friday 1/19 2 a.m. to Friday 1/19 7 a.m. Shift 10-11: from Saturday 1/20 5 a.m. to Saturday 1/20 7 a.m. Shift 12: from Wednesday 1/10 2 a.m. to Wednesday 1/10 7 a.m. For any questions, please contact Bob Corey at corey.bob@att,net. The staff at St. Mary Parish, and the homeless guests, thank all of those who participated. I would guess however, that those who helped are not looking for thanks, but rather the Knights are thanking the guests for the opportunity to serve others as Jesus served others. May God bless each of you. Volume 94, Issue 1 Prompter 5 April 2018

Knights, Four Principles, Four Reasons All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles: Charity Our Catholic faith teaches us to Love thy neighbor as thyself. Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day. Unity None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that together we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together we support one another. That doesn t mean that we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that as a Knight of Columbus you can count on the support and encouragement of your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community. Fraternity Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died often prematurely. The Order s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do the good works of individual Knights, who gave more than 75 million service hours in 2016, illustrating how Catholics serve each other in fraternity and mercy. Patriotism Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens. Volume 94, Issue 1 Prompter 8 April 2018

Insurance Update Knights, Please forgive my intrusion, I need your help. As you know we place a very high priority on keeping the promise that Father McGivney made in his church basement in To that end, I work tirelessly to find men to serve our Knights of Columbus Families here in Southeastern Michigan. Some of you may recall that we had only five agents when I arrived in August 2011 as General Agent. Today we have 8 well qualified and committed Field Agents and the addition of Northern Macomb and St. Clair Counties to serve. As I said, I need your help. From time to time, we need to grow our team. This is one of those times. As you know the man I am looking for. Of course, he must be Catholic and a member of the Order (or able to join). But just as important, I find he often has the following traits; Integrity- You would trust him to take care of you and your family Empathy- He cares about the people around him Success- He has a history of success in his personal and professional life Expansion- He is ready (or nearly ready) to grow into a new career A GREAT CAREER Our Field Agents enjoy a full-time professional career with a highly rated*, ethical, altogether Catholic Company. The Knights of Columbus offers generous compensation and benefits for our men who work every day to keep Father McGivney's Promise. There is even a path to management with the Order for the right candidate. YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED I hope you can help me. If there is a man who you thought of as you read this letter - please let me know. Call, write or me directly. I cannot promise that he will become an agent. I can promise that we will treat any inquiry or recommendation with discretion, appreciation and respect. Should we offer him a contract with the Order, I will work personally and diligently to help him find a path to success and security as I do for each of our agents. Thank you for your time and attention. Until I see you again - take care and God bless, Vivet Jesus! 10 BISHOP GALLAGHER COUNCIL, No KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS c/o Royal Canadian Legion Post East 11 Mile Road Royal Oak, MI FAITH INTO ACTION: Knights of Columbus Bishop Gallagher Council No Since 1925 A Knights of Columbus council can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community, town, city or neighborhood in which you live. However, a successful Knights of Columbus program depends on people taking the initial idea, modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs, then implementing the program in the way it works. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization. This theme permeates the entire Service Program: all Church, community, council, family, culture of life, and youth activities. Encourage your fellow Catholic brothers, sons, family, and friends to join. Prompter Printing Courtesy of Sullivan & Son ROYAL OAK UTICA 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd Hall Rd.
