2 First Reading Is 56:1.6-7 A reading from the prophet Isaiah Thus says the Lord: Have a care for justice, act with integrity, for soon my salvation will come and my integrity be manifest. Foreigners who have attached themselves to the Lord to serve him and to love his name and be his servants all who observe the sabbath, not profaning it, and cling to my covenant these I will bring to my holy mountain. I will make them joyful in my house of prayer. Their holocausts and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples. This is the word of the Lord. Responsorial Psalm Ps 66: R. v.4 (R.) O God, let all the nations praise you! 1. O God, be gracious and bless us and let your face shed its light upon us. So will your ways be known upon earth and all nations learn your saving help. (R.) 2. Let the nations be glad and exult for you rule the world with justice. With fairness you rule the peoples, you guide the nations on earth. (R.) 3. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. May God still give us his blessing till the ends of the earth revere him. (R.) Second Reading Rom 11: A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans Let me tell you pagans this: I have been sent to the pagans as their apostle, and I am proud of being sent, but the purpose of it is to make my own people envious of you, and in this way save some of them. Since their rejection meant the reconciliation of the world, do you know what their admission will mean? Nothing less than a resurrection from the dead! God never takes back his gifts or revokes his choice. Just as you changed from being disobedient to God, and now enjoy mercy because of their disobedience, so those who are disobedient now and only because of the mercy shown to you will also enjoy mercy eventually. God has imprisoned all men in their own disobedience only to show mercy to all mankind. This is the word of the Lord. Gospel Acclamation Mt 4:23 Alleluia, alleluia! Jesus preached the Good News of the kingdom and healed all who were sick. Alleluia!

3 Gospel Mt 15:21-28 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Jesus left Gennesaret and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Then out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples went and pleaded with him. Give her what she wants, they said because she is shouting after us. He said in reply, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. But the woman had come up and was kneeling at his feet. Lord, she said help me. He replied, It is not fair to take the children s food and throw it to the house-dogs. She retorted, Ah yes, sir; but even house-dogs can eat the scraps that fall from their master s table. Then Jesus answered her, Woman, you have great faith. Let your wish be granted. And from that moment her daughter was well again. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Communion Antiphon I am the living bread from heaven, says the Lord; if anyone eats this bread he will live for ever. John Paul II, The crisis in East Africa has deepened with more communities now declared to be in famine. 6 JUST A REMINDER OF OUR THANKSGIVING PROGRAM "For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable ". Romans 11:29 God has a special mission in mind for each of us and He has given us the gifts that we need to accomplish that mission. We are called to be good stewards by using the gifts that God has given us to do the work that God has planned for us alone. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of God's work will be left undone If you would like to join our Thanksgiving program, please contact the Parish Office Riverina Tours 2 Day Midweek Deniliquin Tour 26th September 2011 Departs Community Centre at 6am Cost: $50 per person (twin share), Single $30. The hospital needs $300,000 to purchase a new echocardiology scanning machine and Austin has set himself a target to raise $3,000 to put towards this purchase. 9 FOOTY TIPPING ROUNDS 18,19,20 Just a summary of events over last three rounds. Round 18 Weather in Perth very wet but Westralians are aware that there are more than two teams in the AFL. This was a great round after a very poor round 17. We had 23 who chose 8 and there were 24 with 7. The Sunday games had a big impact. The weather report was better with sunny days in Broome. Round 19 was also a good round with over 20 choosing the 7 winners. Three teams had the bye and Geelong annihilated the Demons. It must have been fun in the household where one spouse supported Geelong and the other Melbourne. Twelve members had chosen 15 out of 15 and it was great to see John Lewis as one of the 12. Dennis Rosbrook was still the leader. Weather in Halls Creek warm and pleasant. Interesting town. Petrol 178 cents. Just filled a road train that took 1000 litres. Back to Football! Williamstown won the Foxtel Cup played in Perth against Sth.Fremantle-- a win for the Doggies. We take them when we can!!! Round 20 saw only 6 with 8, and previous winner of comp, Adam Lane, had the closest margin.bulldogs did not lose! There is a change in the leaderboard with Joshua Bryan leading. Trish Wallace and Dennis Rosbrook only one behind the leader. One can be sure Debbie McM will be hoping for a swans win as she celebrates her 21plus birthday. Glamour of the Gown Parade CatholicCare, together with Friends of St Mary of the Cross, are holding a stunning Glamour of the Gown Parade as a fundraiser for CatholicCare s Alcohol & Other Drug Family Service. This event will be held at Box Hill Town Hall, 1022 Whitehorse Rd Box Hill at 7:30pm Thursday 1 September. A collection of after five and special occasion gowns dating back to the 1940s will be modelled. The gowns will include a collection worn by Nan Rivett, wife of renowned Australian journalist Rohan Rivett, who wore many of these glamorous international gowns at overseas events. The ticket price of $35 per head includes a light supper and all funds raised will support families torn apart by a loved one s misuse of alcohol or other drugs. Please contact CatholicCare s St Mary of the Cross Centre on to purchase event tickets or arrange assistance for your family, or go to to make a tax deductible donation.
