Our heritage begins in Genesis and includes the faith experience of the people of the Old Testament. The last supper of Jesus with his disciples was a Passover meal. So, on Thursday of Holy Week, we will hold our own Seder, a traditional meal and ceremony observed in Jewish families at Passover. The Seder celebrates the goodness of God as experienced in past deliverances and future hope. Together we will learn of the symbolism of the different foods of the Seder. This meal is for all ages! In order that we might prepare a Seder plate for all who be attending, please RSVP to the church office by Tuesday March 31 st. Following the meal we will join together in worship for a traditional Maundy Thursday worship service where we will reflect on the love that Christ shares with all of us. 2 A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Soup for Loot Luncheon on Mar. 8. We raised over $700 for the youth Mission Trip in June! DIANA BENNETT AND THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION GROUP are working on a Jelly Bean project for Easter. We need your HELP! We are asking for donations of jelly beans and Michaels gift cards by March 29 th. If you can t make it out to shop, Dorothy Bennett can do it for you. Contact Diana if you have any questions. ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING The 2015 OGHS Offering will be received on Easter Sunday, April 5, The funds are disbursed between 3 Agencies: The Presbyterian Hunger Program, which helps to transform lives and enrich communities. Good Shepherd also gives ongoing support to this agency through our monthly 2 Cents a Meal offering. The Presbyterian Mission Agency supports Self-Development of People, often through grants to community organizations as people move through physical, emotional or spiritual misfortune. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance brings healing and hope on a long-term basis. Please give generously again this year to One Great Hour of Sharing! 2 MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR MARCH 24 This is when Good Shepherd will be hosting the Presbytery of Denver gathering! There will be lots of opportunities for volunteering---cooking, serving, setting up, taking down, greeting, etc. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact either Marsha Morton or Mary McCarron. YOUTH MISSION TRIP SHARES ON SALE! You have the opportunity once again to support our youth on an upcoming mission trip. This year we are traveling to Ghost Ranch in New Mexico participating in the Youth Service Corps June 15 th 21st! For $10 you can be a shareholder in this trip and truly invest in the lives of our youth and others they touch. You can follow along with the work we re doing throughout the week with posts on thegoodshepherd.org. As a shareholder you will be invited to dinner with a prescreening of the video from our week at Ghost Ranch later in the summer after we return. The date of the dinner will be announced in May. 4 Food Bank: During January the Food Bank gave out 191 orders to 140 households, serving 489 people, concluding 200 children. Following worship on March 22, the Mission Working Group will host a lunch. We will provide the fixings for sandwiches and ask for donations of desserts from those who stay for lunch. We will receive a free will offering during the worship service to be directed to School Fees and the Feeding Program at HCOC. Fees are about $20 per term per child. For more information about the HCOC please see Jan Myers Painting Workshop, held on Jan. 17, raised $ for the food bank. Her next workshop will be held on Feb. 21. Proceeds will go to Highlands Camp. The 2Cents-A-Meal (CENTSABILITY) offering taken on Feb. 1 collected $ Growing Home hosting at N.G. United Methodist church was on Sat., Jan 24. The 4 client families were served dinner and hosted by Good Shepherd. We also provided overnight hosts. Next hosting will be May 2. The annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering, to benefit Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program and Self -Development of People will received on Palm Sunday/Easter Sunday. Rev. Parker Smith, retired Presbyterian pastor, and his wife, Susie, visited Zimbabwe last spring. Pastor Smith will preach at Good Shepherd on Sunday, March 22 (weather permitting). He will bring news from Zimbabwe and from the Heather Chimhoga Orphan Care Center, which is supported by the Zimbabwe Mission Partnership (ZMP). As you know, Good Shepherd has been one of the Denver area partner churches for the past 14 years. The ZMP reaches out to over 700 orphan children, in addition to 300 preschoolers, to provide education, medical care and a feeding program. 5 SAVE THE DATE FOR THE ANNUAL CHURCH GARAGE SALE The church garage sale will be Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6. Sorting and pricing will be each morning from Monday, June 1 through Thursday, June 4. You may start bringing in your goods for the sale starting Sunday, May 24 after church, which is the last day of Sunday School. PLEASE note the items we CANNOT accept: computers, monitors, and printers. We will need lots of help for all these jobs: sorting, pricing, manning the sales (both garage and bake sales), being the Grillmeister for each day, supplying baked goods for the bake sale, cashiering, set-up and take-down each day, and spreading the word to all your friends and neighbors. Please contact your Congregational Life Elder, Marsha Morton, at to volunteer to help. We need all of you! 5 CHURCH WOMEN UNITED Church Women United is a service group with members from many north suburban churches which meets the fourth Tuesday of every month in Good Shepherd Fellowship Hall. We meet 9:00 to 1:00 and work on projects to help families in Adams County. During the morning meetings you might find us stuffing heart pillows for heart patients to use when they cough, other pillows for people in wheelchairs with sores, cutting quilt squares, making tray favors for nursing home residents, or any other project that would benefit residents of Adams County. Members make afghans, lap robes, baby quilts, hats, or just come and work on projects during the meeting. We have members who cannot make the meetings but work on projects at home. We provide layettes to neighborhood hospitals for parents who need help. We make walker bags, lap robes, pillows, and other items for nursing homes. We bring our lunches and have lunch around noon, with a devotional and a short business meeting. This group is affiliated with the Colorado Church Women United. Even if you can t knit, crochet, or sew you will find a project to do at our meetings! Come and join us for a fun gettogether with women of strong faith who have a powerful sense of mission. Our March meeting will be March 31 because of the Presbytery meeting, but in April we return to the 4 th Tuesday meeting date.
