1 Gospels - Acts Unit 8 - The Final Week CHRONOLOGY OF THE FINAL WEEK:! Sunday -! Monday - the Fig tree and cleansing the! Tuesday - Day of!! Wednesday - The Discourse! Thursday - meal (Last Supper) and discourse! Friday -! Saturday - day of quiet! Sunday -! The Final Week began in and ended in. I. SUNDAY - The Triumphal entry into ( Sunday) (Mt. 21, Mk. 11, Lk. 19, Jn. 12) A. The triumphal entry contains three specific events that display Jesus : I. Finding the unbroken colt just as Jesus had stated shows His II. Riding on an unbroken colt without any problems shows His Godly over the animal kingdom III. Riding on an unbroken colt fulfilled the in Zechariah 9:9 of the coming Messiah B. The Triumphal entry caused two reactions: I. The people: spread and branches II. The Pharisees: bah, humbug! They tell Jesus to calm the crowds C. According to Jewish Law, the Sunday before Passover was the day the Passover Lamb was to be examined and selected. Jesus is the perfect II. MONDAY - Cursing the Fig Tree and cleansing the Temple (Mt. 21, Mk. 11, Lk. 19) A. Cursing the Fig Tree I. Fig Trees in Israel would typically show fruit bearing leaves. The appearance of leaves on this tree signified it should be. II. This tree was in a sense a because it appeared to be something it was not. Jesus states the tree represents that generation of. B. Cleansing the Temple I. Recall that Jesus this at the beginning of His ministry in John 2. Three years later and they still have not learned. II. IV. WEDNESDAY - The Discourse (Mt ) This is Jesus largest section dealing with the future. To understand this section we must realize a few key points. I. Jesus is answering three question raised by his disciples. The disciples are, representing the faithful remnant of who were waiting for their Lord to come. II. Jesus is speaking of prophecy for - The people, the land, and its main city, Jerusalem. There is no reference to the or the prophetic program of the church (rapture). III. Jesus is speaking about the seven year period known as the and what the nation of can expect DURING THAT TIME. A. The Discussion 24:1-2 As Jesus and the Disciples are leaving Jerusalem for the day, Jesus states that the Temple and all of Jerusalem will be entirely. B. The Questions 24:3 I. when will these things be? (The destruction of Jerusalem) I. Answer found in Luke 21:20-24 II. what will be the sign of your? (How will we know when you re going to do this?) I. " vs ! - it will be lightning! - it will be universally! - it will a time of earthly destruction! - it will be by heavenly disturbances! - the Son of Man will come in and! THIS IS THE SECOND OR SECOND! OF JESUS CHRIST AT THE END OF THE TRIBULATION III. "WHEN THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE... " LK. 21! - "Jerusalem surrounded by " (Roman armies under Titus)! - "they will fall by the edge of the sword" (Titus and his armies killed! thousands)! - "led captive into all the nations" (Israel no longer an independent country)! - "Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles" (the Temple demolished, the! city left in ruins)! In the end, only those who have been faithful to the Lord will be allowed into the Millennial Kingdom. V. THURSDAY- THE LAST SUPPER AND THE UPPER ROOM DISCOURSE (Mt. 26, Mk. 14, Lk. 22, Jn ) A. 7 IV. FRIDAY- THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST (MT , MK , LK' , JN ) A. 3 TRIALS (3-5 AM) ALL 1., THE FORMER HIGH PRIEST (Jn. 18:12-23) 1. The former high priest questioned Jesus in two areas: His and His 1. The first physical blow to Jesus occurs as an attendant Jesus across the face. 2. AND THE SANHEDRIN (Mt. 26:57-75) 1.
