1 Wednesday, March 6, 2019 Volume 72 Number 5 The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven fantasy novels for children written by Christian author, C.S. Lewis, and is considered a classic of children's literature. Having sold over 100 million copies in 41 languages, it has been adapted several times, complete or in-part, for radio, television, stage, and cinema. The most recent film adaption of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, based on the 2nd book of the series, was the third most popular film in the U.S. in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe tells the story of 4 children who, while playing hide and seek, find a wardrobe which leads to the enchanted land of Narnia. Through their journey, they learn that Narnia is trapped in winter and ruled by the evil White Witch whom they must defeat. Defeating evil will fulfil an ancient prophecy, and in turn, return Aslan (the Christ-figure) as the rightful leader of the throne. A classic story of good vs. evil, it affirms the Christian Gospel and the positive values of the Christian ethic, redemption through love. We are pleased to announce that The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be Fairmount s next major production, to be presented on the Worship Center stage the first two weekends of December, Information will be available in a few weeks regarding auditions for roles in the play, which will be held in early June. Be thinking now of who you want to invite to the enchanted land of Narnia! The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe... Page 1 Fresh Hope: Overcoming Fear...Page 2 Milligan Concert Choir Performance... 2 Overcoming Fear with Fresh Hope By Sandy & Charlie Thomas Many people within our church and our community are suffering with a mental health challenge. As many as 1 in 4 adults will be diagnosed with depression during their lifetime, a staggering statistic. This number does not include their loved ones, who are likewise challenged with how to help. Those affected with a mental health challenge have many fears: what if someone finds out, shame, failure, inability to function and the list goes on. Their loved ones wonder how can they can help, what should we do, why are they acting this way? Dealing with these challenges can easily lead them to lose hope. But we know that For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind 2 Timothy 1:7. The mission of Fresh Hope is: To empower individuals with a mental health challenge, along with their loved ones, to live a full and rich faith-filled life in spite of a mental health challenge. We are here to provide support to those struggling with mental health challenges in their life. Our Fresh Hope group is open to all (not just church members) and is based upon Christian principles. We started our Fresh Hope group here on May 1 st and nearly 50 people have attended at least one of our weekly meetings. Our meetings begin by reviewing the 6 tenets of the Fresh Hope program and then introductions. These brief introductions include a report on how full our hope tank is that day. We often hear that those attending find their hope tank is fuller after our meetings! We cover a variety of topics each week and then break into smaller groups for discussion. Topics have included recovery, phases to living well, image and stigma, working through your past, preventing relapse and others. Our focus is to encourage positive ways to overcome your mental health challenge. It has been a blessing to be a part of this ministry and to see the progress people are making in their lives. We all learn from each other and grow each week. We would encourage all who are struggling with an emotional or mental health challenge to attend our meetings, Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm in room 132. There are other Fresh Hope resources available, including: Facebook, Fresh Hope for Mental Health, online meetings at FreshHopemeeting.com, and their website at Freshhope.us (this site has a great blog as well). We also have Fresh Hope workbooks available. If you are in need of some Fresh Hope for your life, please come and join us. We will help to fill your hope tank. Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up 1 Thessalonians 5:11 page 2 BIBLE CENTERED COMMITTED TO GROWTH COMMUNITY FOCUSED & GLOBALLY MINDED DEDICATED TO EXCELLENCE
