The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVdP), a charitable organization dedicated to the service of the poor, was established by French university students in Paris in 1833, led by the Blessed Frederic Ozanam. The first SSVdP chapter in the United States was established in 1845 in St. Louis, Missouri. Membership in the United States totals some 172,000 in 4,600 communities. The national headquarters is in St. Louis. Members of the Society are known as Vincentians, after St. Vincent de Paul, the patron of the organization. Vincentians are organized into Conferences, a group of volunteers who gather together to grow spiritually and offer person-toperson service to those in need or living in poverty. SSVdP activities in Denver began in Fr. Terry Kissell initiated the formation of our conference in April We are one of 26 conferences that are part of the Denver Metro Council of the SSVdP. Our food collection goes to Catholic Charities Little Flower facility, and we sometimes partner with Catholic Charities for financial assistance. We also work with our SSVdP Denver Metro office and other parish conferences. Our funding is based on a fixed amount from St. Michael s, grants, individual donations, King Sooper gift card usage, Walk for the Poor, and Poor Box contributions. We were very blessed to be asked to become a member of St. Vincent de Paul Eldercare Ministry. We volunteer at Cherry Creek Nursing Center and Chelsea Place memory care. We love serving at Cherry Creek as each Thursday a priest or deacon from St Michael's comes for a Mass or Communion service. We gather the residents all together to pray and visit with each other and us. They are very pleased to see us, as we bring the outside world to them. You have the opportunity to visit one-on-one and some have nobody to visit them. We found this to be a real gift to them and to us, as they so much appreciate the visits everyone brings to them. Chelsea Place has different levels of memory care and a group waits for us each week to share their fascinating stories of their lives. We definitely receive much more than we give. A - On Holy Saturday, those who have been preparing throughout the year received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and 1 st Eucharist as they were initiated into new life in Christ and His Body, the Church. After they emerged from the waters of baptism, they were each clothed in their white garment, which signifies the new dignity they had just received. Now Neophytes, they will continue to wear their white garments throughout the Easter season as witness to their Baptism. Parishioners are encouraged to congratulate and welcome the neophytes. Youth and Young Adult Ministry Middle School: Parent Information Meetings for the upcoming year: April 26th and May 3rd from 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm in the Overflow. Check the Facebook and Flocknotes for more information! In July, St. Michael s Workcampers will travel to Kansas City for a week to repair homes for the elderly and poor. We ask that you consider supporting our Workcamp mission through your prayers and donations. Workcamp will hold its annual Workcamp Share Sale after all Masses on April 14 th and 15 th. We will have a table in the hallway just off of the Gathering Space, and will be present during the Men s Club pancake breakfast after Sunday morning Masses to sell shares in Workcamp. Your share purchase will help pay our travel expenses to Kansas. In exchange, we will pray for your intentions during our daily devotions, send you a post card from camp, and invite you to our Appreciation dinner after we return home. Through Workcamp, we can be the hands of Christ and serve others who are in need. Please consider supporting us through our Share Sale. They take great pride in this distinct and traditional craft, which is one of the principal sources of income for the small but resilient Christian community.
