Glory News Fishers of Men Minister Rosalee Smith 1st Quarter, 2017 And Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then he said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the Son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending (repairing) their nets. He called them and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Christ, Matthew 4: In these scriptures we see these brothers who were fishermen. During this time period most of the men s job or trade came from being fishermen and was their main source of income. With no hesitation they were ready to give up their status in life, families, friends, jobs, and their income, as well as their religious beliefs, to follow Christ. Notice there was no discussion, nor did anyone question Jesus statement, follow Me. Pat s Kitchen, Pg 2 Action Speaks, Page 3-4 Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, Pg 4 Music News, Page 5 Get Through the Door, Page 6 The Family of God, Pg 7 What Does Your Mouth Say, Page 8 Why do you think it was so easy for these men to leave everything and follow Christ? I m glad you asked? Proverbs 4:7 says, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Simon, Andrew, James, and John understood the importance of being a follower of Christ. They were witnesses of Jesus on several occasions. They witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit working with Christ as He performed miracles, fed the hungry, spoke in the synogogues, and spoke of His Father in Heaven. They testified to each other and spoke of His power daily in conversations. They knew and confessed Christ in their hearts as their Lord and Savior. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). John 1:12-13 tells us, But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. Their changed conversation, their changed heart, repentant spirit, along with them being a witness of Christ, built up their confidence and boldness to make them stronger witnesses for Christ. 3 Actions Speak Louder than Words Minister Helene McKithen Glory, Page 3 We ve all heard the phrase actions speak louder than words, but have you ever been in the position where you really had to put this phrase to work? The Bible tells us that we are to love one another as we love ourselves. It is easier to show love to those who love you back, but what about those who aren t so lovable? I am talking about people you encounter on your job and in other social arenas. Maybe it s that person who cut you off in traffic or the salesperson who treated you poorly simply because of your ethnicity, or that coworker who always seems to question your abilities at work. There is a manager on my job who really seems to give me a hard time no matter what I do. Either she is generally rude, or she likes to talk down to people. At first I thought it was due to the color of my skin, but I have come to realize that she is just a mean and hateful person regardless. Generally, if I have a problem with someone, I do a self-check to make certain that it s not me and give them the benefit of the doubt. About a year ago I had a really bad encounter with her and refused to speak to her ever again! That s right, I made up my mind not to ever interact with her again, but how many of you know that we make plans and God laughs. God has a sense of humor and knows just what to do to make you face your problems. Please remember that I don t report to this person directly, however, I was assigned to a project that caused me and my fellow coworkers to interact with her directly. I thought it was just me who received the horrible treatment and later discovered she treated quite a few people the same way. I was justifiably upset and wanted vindication. I have to honestly say that I have not been this upset in quite a while. Just when you think you re over something, it has a way of resurfacing again. I tried praying about it and nothing seemed to change. This woman even tried to sabotage my department by making disparaging remarks to those in upper management about us. She gave the impression that we were incompetent and that our project would fail. That was it! I was furious and expressed how I truly felt about this woman to my project manager and the director over my department. Fortunately, our project didn t fail and our director knew that we were quite capable in performing our assignments. The part that infuriated me is that she attacked my character as well as my coworker s and lied about everything. I had to really take this to God. I had a serious conversation with God and pleaded my case before him like a defendant on trial. God spoke to me through the tears and the anger I felt, and he softly mentioned one word forgiveness. By way of the Holy Spirit I received a revelation from God. He told me the main reason for my struggle with this issue is because I never forgave this woman for her actions. He told me I had to forgive her regardless of how she treated me. Something so simple can be one of the hardest things to do. I felt like I was being attacked on every side and wanted vindication. Yet sometimes in this life you can t always get what you want. Continued on Page 4

Actions Speak Louder than Words Minister Helene McKithen (continued from Pg 3) Glory, Page 4 Isaiah 54:17 tells us that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. We must remember that the battle is not ours, but it is the Lord s. He will fight on our behalf, but we must have a pure heart. We cannot hold on to unforgiveness because it will block our blessings. God cannot forgive us if we don t forgive others. The word I received from the Lord brought me so much peace, and now I am faced with the challenge of taking this word and putting it into action. Fortunately I have the assurance that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and with God all things are possible. Amen! Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus Joshua Campbell Years ago, I stumbled upon a video of Michael W. Smith singing the hymn Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus. As he sang, the words of the chorus were particularly powerful: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face; And the things of earth will go strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace. While thinking of this hymn, the following question came to mind: Is everything I do for the glory of God? Or am I merely trying to please man and myself? It is questions such as these that stir the animosity between the flesh and the spirit. Colossians Chapter 3 outlines several considerations when dealing with this struggle: Set your heart on Christ (1-4) Where are you at currently? What is distracting you from giving your cares to God? And why does it take priority over Him? Put to death your earthly nature (5-11) We often struggle with this greatly. Why? Because it feels good! It feels good to lust and desire after something we do not have. It feels good to swear, as it is a release of pent of frustration. Earthly nature, by and large, tends to be associated with good things. Good feelings, however, do not necessarily equate to God. Treat others with love (12-14) Treating others with compassion and forgiveness can be torture to some. It is completely against conventional wisdom and human nature to show kindness to those who have wronged you. This does NOT feel good; and could pose a legitimate challenge to those trying to follow Christ. For however horrible it may feel, these things are what God has called us to do. He never said they were going to be easy. Allow the presence of Christ to be involved in all aspects of your life (15-17) What is it that we are seeking out of life? Is it pleasure? Love? Power? Do these things have eternity attached to them? Are you willing to allow Christ to fill what these other things could not?

In choosing to follow Christ they understood that not only was Christ their Savior, but their hope for a future. This was what they had been waiting for, for thousands of years ago. Choosing to follow Christ means to walk and live like Him, to let go of your present everything and learn Christ. This journey has to be a faith walk. Jesus sacrificed His life for all mankind. To become a fisher of men is to offer eternal life with Christ. He paid the ultimate and the only price that could be paid to redeemed the world by the shedding of His blood. Christ commandment is that we too must be fishers of men. He knew that rejection, pain, pride of carnal reasoning, and the pleasures of sinful flesh would be a challenge to us as a witness, but the Holy Spirit would give us power to become the sons of God and fishers of men (Mark 1:17). Do not be afraid, from now on you will catch men. So when they brought their boat to land, they forsook all and followed Him (Luke 5:10-11). Are you ready to really forsake all and follow Christ?

Get Through the Door Pastor Marcella Trammer Colossians 4:2-4 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. As we continue in our quest to be trained as evangelists, or witnesses for God, I found this verse to be helpful in several ways. It is Paul s passionate request that the church of Colosse pray with him that God would open to him and others a door for the word, to speak Christ, or the mystery of Christ. Paul said he was in chains, or bound for speaking of Christ, and he is also bound (compelled) to speak for Christ. God assures us that through His word and fervent prayer, we are empowered to stand against the very gates of Hell. We are empowered to stop the enemy at the gate, but just in case he gets by, we are also empowered to overtake and evict the intruder. An intruder is anyone, power, or force, that is someplace he does not belong. We need the Holy Spirit to teach us where the gates of evil and darkness are gaining access, so we can boldly declare you do not belong here. We also need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to many opportunities to go through the door into someone s heart and offer Jesus. Jesus said Himself, behold I stand at the door and knock. He comes calling; He is a gentleman; He is making a request to come in and sup. He wants us to do likewise. He wants us to recognize the gates that hinder the entrance of the gospel in many places places of torment, places of despair, places of contentment, places of confusion, places of rebellion. We are ready to increasingly exercise our right and privilege as the Body of Christ to overthrow the gates of Hell. We have been given an awesome responsibility to steward well the keys of authority and a supernatural discernment for closing off those places where the enemy has people in hiding, and places where he has gained access and caused people to be resistant to God s promised freedom for all. John 10:1-5 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. Let s get through the door, and claim those that God calls His own. Glory, Page 6

The Family of God Minister Sherry Holt-Campbell Glory, Page 7 The Family of God will Outlast Microsoft and the United States Every nation is in the race to outlast each other. There are only two things that will last forever, that is the family of God and the Word of God. Isaiah 40:8 says, The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. A thousand years from today, if there is still an earth here, there won t be a great company, or a great country because no earthly kingdom last forever. There will not be all of the things that we think are so great, said Rick Warren in one of his daily devotionals. He went on to say that the Family and God s people will last eternally. His point was that all Christians need to belong to a local church family. This decision will outlast any decision that you will ever make. With all of the political issues that surround us today, the one constant that a Godly family has is that our Hope is not in government. It is in the everlasting love of our God the father. In Isaiah 65:17 it says, For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. With a local church family, you will grow; develop in your life and in biblical truths and knowledge. A church family will allow you to share your talents and abilities. A church family will give you refuge and correction with love. Family was instituted by God; He built the church to resemble the family. The family of God is forever. Why not find your place in your family today. Ask God to send you to the family that He has designated for you. Jeremiah 31:3 says: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Join a family of God, find your local church family and take your rightful place.

What Does Your Mouth Say About You Brittany Trammer Glory, Page 8 Did you know that the health of your mouth mirrors the condition of your body as a whole? Regular dentist visits not only keep your smiles bright and healthy but they can also tell dentists a lot about your overall health, including whether or not you may be at risk for chronic disease. If you have an overall healthy mouth, chances are your overall health is good too and vice versa. Poor oral health can lead to numerous health problems. Here are a few listed below: Pregnancy: While not necessarily a problem, approximately 40% of women develop gingivitis during their pregnancy. An increase in progesterone, allows for the growth of bacteria which leads to gingivitis. While it's not a tell all sign, it can be common. Halitosis: Also known as bad breath. Two odors of the breath that dentists are trained to identify are a fruity odor and a fishy odor. The fruity smell gives the sign of possible uncontrolled diabetes while the fishy smell points to liver and kidney dysfunction. These odors should first be ruled out from the teeth and gums then with a follow up to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician to rule out any issues like sinus infection or reflux issuses. Diabetes: Just as the smell of fruity breath can point to diabetes, some common sypmtoms seen in the mouth are gingivits and dry mouth but more importantly, peridontal disease. When diabetes is treated properly, it can have little effect on you oral health. Inflammation: Inflammation in your mouth can be a signal to inflammation somewhere else in your body, more particular in the cardiovascular system. Inflamed gums, which are a sign of gum disease, makes a person more susceptible to heart disease. Bacteria and germs from the mouth move to the bloodstream and cause inflammation and damage to the heart. Vitamin Deficiency: A lack of vitamins such as iron and B-12 can lead to many oral health problems such as burning tongue, delayed healing, bleeding gums, and sores. So what can you do? It s simple. Brush and floss daily, stay hydrated, eat a regular and healthy diet, maintain proper intake of vitamins and most importantly, see your dentist twice a year. A dental exam can detect poor nutrition and hygiene, growth and development problems and improper jaw alignment. It also allows your dentist to watch for developments that may point to other health issues. Dentists have been known to save many lives because they detected an issue early on, through a routine oral exam. Our mouths can tell a lot about us, not just verbally but physically too. It is important to maintain overall good health but especially when it comes to oral hygiene. We should always look for signs that may point to specific health concerns. There are plenty of ways to maintain a healthy mouth such as regular dentist visits that include cleanings, brushing and flossing regularly, staying hydrated and maintain adequate vitamin intake. Our dentist could save our lives one day. References:
