Here they went to synagogue on the sabbath and took their seats. When the meeting broke up, many Jews and devout converts joined Paul and Barnabas, and in their talks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them. The next sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God. When they saw the crowds, the Jews, prompted by jealousy, used blasphemies and contradicted everything Paul said. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, but since you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, we must turn to the pagans. For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light for the nations, so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth.' It made the pagans very happy to hear this and they thanked the Lord for his message; all who were destined for eternal life became believers. Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside. But the Jews worked upon some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of the city and persuaded them to turn against Paul and Barnabas and expel them from their territory. So they shook the dust from their feet in defiance and went off to Iconium; but the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. The Word of the Lord

3 Responsorial Psalm Ps 99: R. v.3 (R.) We are his people, the sheep of his flock. 1. Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing for joy. (R.) 2. Know that he, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to him, we are his people, the sheep of his flock. (R.) 3. Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love. He is faithful from age to age. (R.) Second Reading Rv 7:9, A reading from the book of the Apocalypse I, John, saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands. One of the elders said to me, 'These are the people who have been through the great persecution, and because they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb, they now stand in front of God's throne and serve him day and night in his sanctuary; and the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. They will never hunger or thirst again; neither the sun nor scorching wind will ever plague them, because the Lamb who is at the throne will be their shepherd and will lead them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.' The Word of the Lord Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. Alleluia! Gospel Jn 10:27-30 A reading from the holy Gospel according to John Jesus said: 'The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.' The Gospel of the Lord Communion Antiphon The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep and willingly died for his flock, alleluia.

4 NEWS FROM THE VATICAN Use technology to proclaim Gospel, says Vatican official Pontifical Council for Social Communications president, Archbishop Claudio Celli, has called on Catholics to make bold use of new technologies in the work of evangelisation. During the second International Seminar on Communications in the Church taking place in Santiago, Chile, Archbishop Celli used statistics and graphics to show the evolution of the use of the social networks by different generations, underscoring their strong impact on young people, the National Catholic Register reports. In his address titled, "Communications and the Second Vatican Council: Can a Council held 50 years ago still be current?" Archbishop Celli recalled that the last pontificates have highlighted the challenges raised by the new technologies. "The new technologies are part of the Church's very mission. The last pontiffs help us to understand that the vocation of social communications in the Church means presenting the truth about man," he said, Archbishop Celli noted that Blessed John Paul II placed great importance on the use of the new technologies in evangelization, especially with his apostolic letter "Rapid Development." In addition, however, Benedict XVI emphasized that evangelization needs authentic Christian testimonies. "We cannot imagine that the proclamation, with the most current technologies, not include a profound personal testimony of faith in Our Lord," he said. "That is why people today like listening more to those who share their testimonies than to those who teach. And if they listen to those who teach it is because they share their testimonies."

5 NEWS FROM THE PARISH GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY 21ST APRIL 2013 In today's Gospel, the Evangelist records that Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." Let us listen to the Word of God in our Mass today, get to know the Lord in the Eucharist, hear his voice and then our only response can be to follow him! 8 St Mac's Social Justice Meetings Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 10am - 11am in the Community Centre. For more information, please call Parish Footy Tipping Certificate of Footy Tipping Round 3 Sunday afternoon, family in front of the Television all set to watch the footy. Dad with black and white scarf and the daughter with black and white beany. Mum put the Docker's scarf away till next week. As the game ended, Dad upset, but daughter rejoices she has chosen 9 winners. Father not happy! and we mean not happy! Collingwood supporters never pick the opposition! That may be why no Collingwood supporter has won our competition. Of course, to have nine, the young daughter had to have chosen against mum's team as well, the Dockers. However, it was a very subdued conversation for the rest of the evening. Our only winner for round 3 was our new young member, Tessa Houlihan. Well done Tessa! At the end of round 3 with 23 wins we have Sister Martina leading the way and it is no coincidence that the Tigers have won all three games. In second place is a consistent tipper, Maree O'Halloran, who has her best start this year and is one point behind Sister Martina and one point ahead of those who share third place. They are three of our very enthusiastic tippers; Spencer Meier, Sue Douglas and Katherine Hawthorne. One point away on 20 are 6 members and another point away there are 10 members with 19 wins each. At present the top of the board is very tight. New member Mike Braden is doing well and James Barrett after a very slow start in round 1 has been very good since. The result of the GWS versus Melbourne game this week will probably determine if anyone scores 9. Rosters for Sunday Ministers The winter roster for Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Readers/Commentators for Sunday Masses will be drawn up shortly. This roster will cover June, July and August. If you intend to depart for a warmer climate or want to vary your usual commitment, please leave a notrd e for me in the parish office by 23 April. New volunteers very welcome - especially for the 6.00pm and 11.00am Masses.
