If you are interested in this meaningful ministry please contact Susan Woodward at susan.woodward@telus.net or the church office at
9 The Faith Leadership Training Committee is happy to announce a call to artists at Grace working in various forms of visual art including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, illustrations, digital art, textiles, decorative arts and crafts. Please bring your gifts to celebrate God. The Rev. Dr. Richard Topping will be speaking on Imagination, Beauty and God and the expressions of spiritual worlds in a two day exhibition and lecture series. We are looking for work centered around ideas of how you as an artist view alternate worlds, or the world in general, from perspectives of faith or religion with emphasis on our common humanity. Contact Arlene Quackenbush, arlenedq@shaw.ca over the coming week. When the Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart met with the Conveners and Session Elders after worship on Sunday September 16, he provided advice for congregations receiving new ministers. A few of his suggestions were: Pray for your clergy and for your church. Be prepared for some discomfort in getting used to new ways of doing things. Be cheerleaders and champions, providing support in times of change. Remember Grace s vision and mission and work together to achieve it. Ask for and offer forgiveness when differences arise. Remember that we are all in God s hands. The Spiritual Expression and Development Committee would like to suggest that you offer prayers for our four ministers as we prepare for our journey together and keep in mind Ross s advice as we embark on that journey.
10 Imagination, Beauty and God 1:00 4:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday October 27 and 28 Lunch is served at noon on Sunday in the Gymnasium before the event. The Rev. Friendship Group will meet on Friday, October 12 at 11:30 am in the Family Room/Lounge. The group meets on the second Friday of the month for a light lunch and good conversation. There is a small charge for the lunch of about $5. New members are welcome. If you plan to attend, please contact Bill Cruickshanks at so adequate food can be arranged. Save the Date! - The Faith Leadership Training Centre Committee is preparing their next event on Wednesday November 14 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. We know that Church Matters to you. 12 The Presbyterian Church in Canada Mission Moment International Day of the Girl Child (October 11) Poonam was only 13 years old when she learned that her parents had arranged for her to be married in a few months. In India, early marriage is a very common practice, deeply rooted in tradition. Unfortunately, it also takes away a girl s right to a childhood, disrupts her schooling and puts her at risk of early pregnancy. Meera Devi works with Presbyterian World Service and Development (PWS&D) partners in Poonam s village to empower women and girls and prevent early marriages by running sessions that address issues of gender and sexual and reproductive rights. Because of Meera s work, Poonam s family understands the negative impacts of early marriage. The wedding has been postponed, and a joyful Poonam is completing her schooling. PWS&D helps girls decide their own future
